Frankie and Benny’s (Covent Garden)
Want food at a reasonable price in a restaurant with a fun lively environment? Then make sure you check out Frankie and Benny’s in Covent Garden. This restaurant is a 5 minute walk from Covent Garden station. Frankie and Benny’s is a chain that is really popular according to reviews online and also the number of people that turned up whilst we were there dining. It was different from the other restaurants we were to be visiting over the space of a few days so we thought we’d opt for variety and try it for ourselves.
My friend and I booked a table and went along to review the restaurant. The restaurant itself wasn’t overly busy when we arrived but it was amazing how soon it started to fill up. Our server for the evening Balinet was fantastic. He was friendly, polite, helpful and when asked if we could have a few more minutes to decide what we wanted didn’t go off for an age before returning as I’ve had some staff elsewhere do in the past. Throughout the meal, he was attentive and there as and when needed with us and all those dining nearby.

Food
The type of food served at Frankie and Benny’s is Italian and American comfort food. There are a wide range of options available. You’ll also find some vegan and vegetarian options if needed. And, for those that aren’t vegan but are curious, you could use this as a great opportunity to try vegan mozzarella cheese! You’ll find printed on the menu for each dish is the calorie content so if you’re calorie counting it can help you choose options that will fit your requirements.
Starters
Although limited, the selection of starters includes a range of much loved classics. We ordered one starter:
Fully Loaded Potato Skins
Crispy potato skins filled to the brim with bacon, cheese & spring onion
These really are fully loaded. There is plenty of cheese and bacon on the potato skins. Don’t worry if you’re vegetarian, you can have them without bacon too!! The fully loaded potato skins are packed with flavour and come with a pot of sour cream. A great starter with a reasonable sized portion. These are great to share. They were pretty filling and we struggled to finish this as we wanted to save room for our main dish.
Mains
You will find a great variety of options. Select from pasta, pizza, salads, burgers, hot dogs, ribs, steak, and other dishes.
Carbonara
Fettuccine in a creamy sauce with crispy bacon, parsley & Italian cheese
The rich creamy sauce in this carbonara had plenty of flavour. The parmesan was freshly grated over the dish when served so you could have as much or as little as you wanted. Not quite as good as mine but having tried a number of different ones over years I’ve had time to create a version that my friends and family all love. The portion size was really good and the dish was extremely filling. You need to make sure you’re really hungry if you decide to go for 3 courses that’s for sure, or there is no way you’ll make it through all 3 courses and finish them all.
Classic Caesar Salad with Bacon and Grilled Chicken Breast
Baby gem lettuce, croutons, grated Italian cheese & Caesar dressing
This was massive, the picture really doesn’t do it justice. It seemed to be never-ending and a great healthy dish. There was the option of having the salad on its own or with grilled chicken breast. This was just 659 calories so a great meal for those looking for something tasty and healthy. We asked to add bacon to this dish, and that request was met with “yes, no problem” which was great. This was a tasty dish the only fault we could find was the chicken had been cooked too long so it was a bit too dry and chewy. Aside from that, the salad was great with plenty of flavour and dressing.
Sides
Garlic Broccolini
This was perfect for a healthy addition to the meal. The broccolini was perfectly cooked so that it was tender but firm to the bite. This had just the right amount of garlic and a touch of salt to season it. It was delicious, fresh and in hindsight, we should have ordered two. I’d definitely recommend a portion of the garlic broccolini and the fact it has just 113 calories is an added bonus.
Onion Rings
Onion rings are a dish we don’t get to eat often so we thought we would indulge. These had a good proportion of batter to onion which was great as no one wants a mouthful of batter. The onion pieces were nice and chunky and the batter was nicely seasoned. We enjoyed every bite.
Desserts
Classic Tiramisu
Having learned from experience. If someone says they’ll just sample a spoon of your dessert, DON’T BELIEVE THEM!!!!! Big mistake. My friend had eaten half within seconds of my finishing taking pictures. Honestly, it was so fast it was a bit of a blur. I’m still not sure how she managed that!!! Not sure it even touched the sides. This creamy, melt in the mouth dessert is gorgeous. A really great choice for any coffee lover. The dessert reminded me how much is love Tiramisu and I’ve bought it locally a few times since. Get one, don’t think twice, forget the calorie content, don’t share it, you’ll thank me later!!
Drinks
This restaurant offers a wide range of drinks from soft drinks to wines, beers, hot drinks, and cocktails. There is plenty to choose from for the whole family. We tried an Amaretto Sour which was refreshing and a perfect choice as we had been walking around London for hours beforehand. This sweet and sour cocktail was great to help get our digestive juices flowing.

What Did We Think?
The manager was friendly and greeted us on entry. Our server was fantastic. I can’t fault the staff at all. They were all great! The pricing was reasonable for the location. We weren’t expecting gourmet dining, more along the lines of comfort food and that was exactly what we got. You can get a really filling meal for a reasonable price. Portion sizes are all generous. The great thing is you can get doggy bags if needed so if you’re dining with kids and they can’t finish everything, or have simply gotten overly excited and over-ordered you can always take it home for later on, or the next day.

We love Frankie and Bennys, there is one in our cinema complex and we often go there after a movie. They offer a good choice of veggie/vegan options. Those loaded skins look awesome. It looks like you had a nice meal.

Oh this sounds like a great place to eat! When we were in London last we tried all kinds of local cuisine, but I remember just wanting some American comfort food. This would have been the perfect place to go, especially with vegan options.

Frankie and Bennys is a crowd pleaser. It’s one of those restaurants you can insure you’ll leave full and satisfied for the price you pay unlike a lot of fancy restaurants in the area where the main plate is bigger than all the courses served. Plus it’s great for family with fussy eaters and young kids as they tend to have an activity pack to keep them busy and baby facilities too
It is a good restaurant especially for families. They have loads of foods kids will love which is really helpful.

We have a Frankie and Benny’s not too far from home. We have taken the kids there before and we have always enjoyed the food. The food in your photos has made me feel very hungry!

Oh we went recently to Frankie and Benny’s for the first time whilst waiting for a train at paddington. It was really great! Portion sizes were huge! Would definitely go back again!!
They do have generous portion sizes which is great.
