Who doesn’t love indulging in a delicious afternoon tea? There are so many different options to choose from and I for one would love to try as many different ones as I can. I also love sushi, so when I came across the different options available for Inamo on the Red Letter Days website I was interested to go and try one of them for myself. Red Letter Days have a range of different options for those that wish to dine at Inamo. These include a Traditional Afternoon Tea for Two at Inamo, another of the same but with bottomless fizz, a vegetarian option. They also have a range of meal options which sound interesting and I might have to try one of those too, watch this space!! On this occasion, I booked the afternoon tea with fizz option to try with a friend.

Afternoon Tea at Inamo
You’ll get a 75 minute slot (according to the staff at Inamo Covent Garden) to eat the afternoon tea. The afternoon tea is separated into savoury tapas bites and sushi and once this has been eaten they serve dessert. They have interactive tables where diners can play games whilst waiting for their meal to arrive. Each diner can play on their own or they also have the option to play on one of the multiplayer games.

Tapas
This included a small mix of tasty bites to get you started. Make sure you eat these first as they’re served hot/warm and best eaten when they arrive at the table.

Soft Shell Crab Tempura
Crispy soft shell crab in light tempura with a creamy dip.
One of my favourite items from the savoury section. These had a good crunch to them and the batter was not too heavy or too thick and was beautifully seasoned. This was slightly on the oily side but it was still really yummy.
Korean BBQ Ribs
tender pork ribs smothered in a more-ish BBQ sauce.
Not something I expected to find in the afternoon tea selection as ribs make it a bit messy to eat. These ribs are packed full of flavour and are pretty meaty. They’re a combination of sweet and spicy. There was plenty of meat on these and they were not fatty. A welcome addition, they are good.
Chicken Karaage with Katsu Curry
Tender tempura chicken thigh served with a katsu curry dipping sauce.
This looks like a chicken nugget but the tempura had a great kick of flavour to it. It’s like a gourmet nugget with a nice chunky piece of clean chicken breast within the batter. The tempura batter had a great crunch and flavour. This was a delight to eat.
Sushi
Here you get a mix of items to cover everyone’s taste, raw fish, cooked fish, prawns, and vegetarian. Below you’ll find descriptions of each of the items included.

Panko Salmon Rolls
Scottish salmon, red pepper & asparagus, served with wasabi, lemon, & dill mayo.
This was a really tasty piece of sushi. The panko on the seaweed was nice and crispy and well seasoned. The cooked salmon went well with the pepper and asparagus. The wasabi, lemon and dill mayonnaise was a nice addition and added a great hit of flavour.
Dragon Roll
Crunchy tempura shrimp, creamy avocado and mayo.
This is Inamo’s signature dish. Not a bad version, the shrimp coating certainly was crunchy with plenty of flavour. The avocado contrasts well with its lovely smooth texture.
Red Dragon Roll
Red peppers, crunchy cucumber and smooth avocado.
This had a nice mix of veg and fruit (as we all know avocadoes are a fruit). It is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. Again you get a texture contrast with the creamy avocado contrasting with the crunchiness of the cucumber and soft smooth pepper. The flavours all compliment each other well.
Tuna Sashimi
Succulent slices of fresh tuna.
I do like sashimi although this had a mix between a firm texture in the centre and more of a mushy outer. I’m assuming it had been frozen and thawed prior to serving. Not the best item from the selection.
Dessert
The dessert section was small, but you’ll find a range of delicious options here. These all appeared to be the sort of items made elsewhere and simply defrosted at the restaurant.

Chocolate and Cinnamon Churros
I do love churros and these were okay. They had a crispy outer and a soft centre. They would have been much better if they were warm. The churros came with a drizzle of milk chocolate over the top. A small pot with warm chocolate sauce to dip into would have gone part of the way for making up for the fact that they were not serving warm churros. Alas, it was not to be.
Mini Passionfruit Mousse
Rich and creamy and full of tangy sweet flavour. There should really have been two of these as otherwise you either have to share (OMG, seriously, it’s not safe to share dessert with friends as I found out when I visited Frankie and Benny’s).
Mini White and Dark Chocolate Mousse
This was heavenly. Honestly, it was delicious. Couldn’t fault it other than we wish it was bigger and it hadn’t quite defrosted completely. It was almost like an ice cream. But, either way, it was very lovely.
Passionfruit Lolly
Coated in white chocolate the passion fruit lolly had a delightfully tangy passion fruit coulis centre.
Vegan Chocolate and Raspberry Lolly
This had a delicious rich creamy chocolate mouse hidden within the white chocolate coating with a raspberry centre.

What did we Think?
Although not the best sushi I’ve had it was okay. The staff were keen to make sure we stuck to our time slot and made sure they told us when we had 15 minutes left and then when the time was up. We were given a bill for the service charge, not all companies will charge this on the Red Letter Days site although I do normally tip.
The staff seemed friendly enough although I wouldn’t say the service was as exceptional as it was at Frankie and Benny’s where we dined later that day.
The overall afternoon tea was okay, there were parts of it that were better than others. It wouldn’t be our first choice for sushi although I’d be interested to try their unlimited sushi option and see how that faired in comparison.

I supposed it all depends on what you are used to. Restaurants don’t all make foods to the same standards.
