I’ve not been out for Indian food for ages since our local and the best Indian restaurant near us closed down about a year and a half ago. Recently, I met up with one of my friends for dinner and we decided to travel over to Arnos Grove to try The India Grill restaurant. This is a restaurant that her mother and friends often frequented and has lots of positive reviews online.
The India Grill
The outside of the restaurant is a little misleading if you are not paying attention and looking for the restaurant name on the buildings as you pass. You could easily be mistaken it was a shop with all the plants that are lined up outside. the restaurant itself is antiquated and in great need of an update. On the walls are various plates and pictures in frames, none of them matching and between them displaying a wide array of images. The menu is nice and varied and has plenty of of popular dishes to choose from.

The India Grill Menu

Starters
We stuck with just the one starter as we weren’t sure how large portions would be and didn’t want to over order. The starter and mains were all served at the same time.
Chicken Tikka
This starter comes with an option of 5 or 10 pieces. It consists of pieces of boneless chicken that are marinated with herbs & spices and yoghurt and then cooked in a clay oven. This isn’t particularly spicy and is served without sauce on a bed of cooked onions. The chicken tikka comes with a fresh side salad and tasty creamy mint sauce. The chicken tikka arrived at the table sizzling and the chicken was full of flavour and came served on a bed of cooked onions. We could see the ghee in the bottom of the dish which is normal with this particular option. The chicken was lovely although a touch dry.
Mains
We decided to go for three mains and share so we would have a nice variety. The intention was to take home any left overs if there were any. Portion sizes we reasonable.
Tandoori King Prawn Biryani served with Vegetable Curry
I do love a prawn biryani and this one was full of flavour. The basmati rice is cooked with a range of different fragrant spices and had a fair number of larger juicy prawns that had been butterflied hidden within. This was accompanied by a vegetable curry. The vegetable curry was full of flavour, it had a good heat kick but was predominately cabbage. A lovely dish although probably the most expensive King Prawn Biryani I have had. I’m planning to try the prawn biryani (not king prawn) next time we visit for comparison.

Begum Masala
I saw this on the menu and really wanted to try it as I really love aubergines. This is a flavourful dish with aubergine, yogurt and spices. The Begum Masala was my favourite of all of the dishes that we tried that evening. It was rich and creamy and had a delicious coconut flavour that we loved. It’s a great vegetarian dish that adds vegetables to a meal in a way that you will love.

Mutton Dansak
This dish has beef with lentils and a hot and sour sauce. It’s another dish that was full of flavour and a great one for all meat eaters. This had good sized chunks of beef and pieces of potato mixed in to bulk it up. It’s a good one to use nan with to mop up all of the tasty sauce.

Bread
Butter Nan
Who doesn’t like a fresh, fluffy, soft nan to eat alongside their meal especially when you have plenty of tasty sauces that this can be used to mop up. A simple butter nan is the perfect choice as it doesn’t take away from the flavour of the dishes you are eating it with.

Desserts
On the menu there are also a range of different Indian desserts. As we hadn’t managed to eat all of the mains and were pretty stuffed by that stage we decided to pass on dessert.
Discounts at The India Grill
If you prefer to get a takeaway from this restaurant they offer 15% off orders that are collected. You’ll need to spend a minimum of £22 and order through the website to get this discount.
Sunday Buffet
The India Grill do an eat as much as you like buffet every Sunday from 12.30 to 9pm. They charge £14.95 per adult and £9.95 for each child under 10 years old. This has a range of dishes available although I have yet to try this myself. My dad went to try this and wasn’t particularly impressed by the food at the buffet although this could simply be because of the dishes that they had available not being to his taste.
The A La Carte menu is also available if you prefer.

The food sounds really good here. I do love Indian food. I would really like to try the aubergine dish as that sounds really good.
It’s a great dish and one that I really enjoyed. I would certainly order it again if we revisit.
India Grill looks fantastic! I love the vibe and decor, and the food sounds amazing. Even the menu is charming!
It is a restaurant you really should visit if you like Indian food.
Ooh. I would definitely enjoy a meal there! I love Indian food, but I also love a great atmosphere. It sounds like The India Grill has both!

My stomach just growled. This looks like a restaurant we’d all would enjoy. The food looks delish! I just love Nan.
The food was nice and portions were reasonable too.
Love masalas, tandooris, and naans. And the prices are great!
The prices are almost reasonable for the area although some other local restaurants might be a little more budget friendly.
Sounds like an amazing place to eat. All that food sure does look delicious. The prices are not that bad either.
The food there was yummy and the selection was varied.
Every dish looks and sounds delicious. You are making me regret that we haven’t had a chance to get an Indian meal there when we were in that area. Perhaps will make it to Arnos Grove and go to the Indian Grill next time! Thank you for the recommendation!
All of the dishes you tried sound delicious, though I would have to also try the aubergine. It sounds like a trip to the India Grill is in order!
These look like delicious dishes! I would love to eat here!

It all looks soooooo good! Indian food is my favourite and there are some great dishes here.
There sure are. I’m sure you’d enjoy dining there.
I very much enjoy Indian food, we have a few restaurants close to home which we do like. The food at India Grill looks very tasty – I also love a prawn biryani, it is always a good choice. The look like they are reasonably priced too.
Wow…the menu looks very delicious, and the prices are affordable. the place is also clean and comfortable.
They do have a good selection of dishes and some tasty food there.
Sounds like the dishes came out in a good size with a lot of flavor! I’d love to try out The Indian Grill.
The food there was good. I would revisit when in the area.
I have not had a decent Indian meal in ages, like you our local restaurant we used to go to closed. The food here looks amazing and has made me crave a good Indain meal even more now
Ha, it does make your mouth salivate looking at those pictures!!!
We have Indian takeaway a lot! My husband used to work at an Indian restaurant for 23 years so he still gets a bit of a discount. Love the look of the food, but I think they are ready for some new menus.
omg this looks soooo good!!! I had a look at the menu, mouth watering for sure….I would love to check it out.
Honestly very impressed with the pricing! The food sounds great, the place looks very nice, and the menu is super impressive with so much to choose from. I love Indian food…wish I lived closer to this spot!
WOW, everything looks so delicious, and their prices seems so reasonable. Looks like a place my family and I would really enjoy dinning at.
Your review has me excited to give this place a try, despite the outdated decor. The Chicken Tikka and Begum Masala sound delicious—I’m already planning our order for next time!
The decor really could do with updating although it shouldn’t put people off.
I love Indian food. These dishes look and sound amazing, and that would be awesome to have the option for a buffet day. Especially when there are dishes I’m not familiar with but would like to try without committing to a whole serving of it (just in case!).
That’s awesome, looks like yummy food. and they have cool menu choices as well. I would love to visit when going to that area. Thank you for sharing!
The food was very tasty. We were happy with what we chose that evening.
My husband & I love Indian food! The Chicken Tikka pictured here looks yummy. We usually get Tandoori Chicken, but the Prawn Biryani served with Vegetable Curry looks delicious too.
It’s such a lovely dish and one of my favourites.
that begum masala sounds like a dish i have to try making.. never tried eggplants with a creamy base
It was really good. I can’t wait to have that dish again. Enjoy!
What a detailed review of The India Grill! 🍛 Despite the antiquated decor, the food sounds delicious, especially the Chicken Tikka and Begum Masala. The discounts and Sunday buffet offer great value. Thanks for sharing your dining experience!
I’m glad you liked the post Kat. I really hope you get to visit some time.
They do sound like they have some lovely options. This does sound yummy and somewhere I need to try with the husband.
I know you’ll enjoy your meal there.
I haven’t ever had Indian food. It looks good. Maybe one day I’ll get the courage to give it a try.
Oh no, you really are missing out. it is yummy!
I do enjoy Indian food but am not that good with spice so I tend to order things that are much milder. And you’re so right you can’t go wrong with a good naan bread, although I tend to go for garlic ones x
Not all the dishes are spicy. They tend to label the spice level on the menu to make it easier to know what to order.
The India grill is full of fantastic and delicious dishes. Absolutely love all the dishes you’ve listed in this post and next time you visit there, try the Indian desserts. I am sure you’ll like them.
Ha, we were fit to burst by the time we finished the main. We hadn’t thought as far as dessert but I do love some of the Indian desserts having tried a fair few in the past as I have Indian friends.
This place looks amazing. I’ve only had Indian food a few times, but that’s because we don’t have a lot of Indian spots in our area. I’d love to try that one!
That’s such a shame, they do have some lovely dishes available.
I love the sound of the dish selection that you tried. I normally go for foods that have a low to medium heat. Indian food is yummyy.
It really is and there are so many variations of dishes too that can keep it interesting.
The one bad thing about visiting a restaurant like this is deciding what to eat! There are so many good choices. I tend to go for something with chicken when I dine out at an Indian restaurant.
I know what you mean although you can always get extra dishes and take home what you don’t finish like we did.
Indian food is one of my favourite cuisines! This restaurant looks so delicious.
It’s really good. Well worth visiting!
The India Grill sounds like it has a really awesome menu! I would love to come and try it for myself one of these days.
They do have a great selection of food options.
I haven’t had Indian food in quite awhile and everything here looks delicious! I guess I know what food I am ordering this weekend
I’m glad you liked the sound of the dishes we tried. I hope you enjoyed your meal there.
It’s dinner time right now so my mouth is so drooling over your food photos from the India Grill! The chicken tikki is a must try! I would also like to try the Puri and Lemon Rice too!
They have some great dishes available. It’s worth visiting.
Oh wow so many options and all of the dishes you tried look amazing, bet they were very flavourful and delicious. I do love indian food when it’s done well
