il Funghetto North Finchley is a popular restaurant. It always seems to be, or become busy, each time that I visit with a few different friends that live in that area. This is a good sized restaurant with super friendly and helpful staff. They serve a range of Italian foods including Pizza, Mediterranean foods, and also European style foods, and do a great job of it to! In this post you will find out more about the foods I have tried on my various visits, and why you want to try this restaurant if you live near or are visiting the area!!!

With a wide variety of food options to choose from you are spoilt for choice when you visit this restaurant. Food is always made with the freshest ingredients and is full of flavour. Staff are always on hand to help if if you need assistance choosing dishes.

Starters
There are a wide range of tasty options. On many occasions, we don’t order starters, but more recently on some recent visits we have been ordering the:
Whitebait
The deep fried whitebait is a great starter reminding us all of days spent on holidays in sunny warm Mediterranean countries. The fish pieces are nice and chunky and not excessively greasy either. They have had the heads removed and the rest of the fish is in a light crispy batter. This is served with a small salad garnish, tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon. It’s a great dish to start with an ideal to share.
Mains
Melanzane Parmigiana
A fabulous dish full of flavour and ideal for vegetarians which I will add we certainly are not. It’s a great comforting dish that is easy to eat at any time of year, but even more so in the winter months. This dish combines aubergine baked with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. It is full of flavour and when combined with sides can be very filling. This is one of those dishes you won’t mind eating again and again. Make sure you get a sprinkling of freshly grated parmesan when it’s served as this finishes the dish perfectly.
Sides
Deep Fried Zucchini
When I first ordered the deep fried zucchini I was impressed by the amount of flavour came from the the light, crispy batter which coated the fried courgette. I will add, I always add salt to this dish as it doesn’t quite have enough, but that’s as far as my interference with their recipe goes.
Spinachi Saltati
This yummy dish is comprised of spinach that is tossed with garlic and chilli. It’s delicious! The spinach is perfectly cooked and there is just enough chilli and garlic each time we have this. You’ll find both red and green chilli’s in this dish (different types). It’s become a firm favourite with a few different friend groups now. It’s a tasty, healthyish dish that works as a great side with a range of their main dishes.
Mixed Salad
This lovely mixed salad is a great accompaniment to any meal. The salad is very fresh and you’ll be hard tasked to find any wilting leaves here. It comprises of lettuce, rocket, red onions, red and orange peppers, cucumber, tomatoes and carrot. Alongside this, you’ll be given an oil oil and vinegar to add according to your preference. It is ideal to get some of those 5 a day into your meal.
Drinks
As well as food we often enjoy a cocktail or two when we visit the restaurant. If you like Pina Coladas (nope, I’m not bursting into tune) then try them here. They are lovely. The also do a great Aperol Spritz according to my friend who loves those!

Il Funghetto is a popular restaurant for good reason. They have great service, food and their prices are very reasonable for North London. This is a restaurant I would wholeheartedly recommend to others. It’s also great for birthdays. Staff will sing if requested. It’s always a good idea to book in advance unless you have my ability to somehow magically come at the perfect time. Not sure how I manage but I’ve gotten the last table on so many occasions it’s almost as amazing as my skills on finding an awesome parking space.

The food at this restaurant sounds really good. I do love auberine it’s so yummy. I love the sound of the whitebail it’s so nice and looks crunchy
They do have some really good dishes. We still have plenty we haven’t tried yet.
I love a good cocktail when we go out to eat, so I love that they have nice drinks to go with their amazing food, too!
It can be a lovely addition to a meal. Who doesn’t love a good cocktail!

It’s such a lovely dish, we have had that one a few times now.
The food sounds delicious. I’ve never had true Italian food. It is one of my favorite cuisines too. Too bad this restaurant isn’t close by or I’d love to try it.

I live in Italy and eat Italian food every day so would be keen to try it. The parmigiana looks good and so does the spinach sautee. I will remember this place if I ever visit.

What a great menu! We certainly do not have a restaurant near me like this. I love the variety, and I am a vegetarian, so I usually struggle to find something I like or at least both an appetizer and entree. So many awesome items!
