Punto Italian Restaurant Winchmore Hill

Amongst a row of shops and restaurants in Winchmore Hill, you’ll discover Punto. I hadn’t been there for many years but a friend and I decided to visit and see if it was as good as it used to be. The restaurant has been around for about 30 years and was always popular as we recalled. We were on a mission to try somewhere different but also wanted to go somewhere good so we decided a revisit was long overdue. Have a read of my review of Punto Italian Restaurant Winchmore Hill.

The restaurant has changed since I last visited. It has a more sophisticated, up market look. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly just as I remembered. We turned up at the door on a busy night without a booking and fortunately, they were able to find the two of us a table. We were very lucky as within half an hour of our arrival the restaurant was full from what we could see. Like Bramleys Restaurant in Oakwood, Punto Italian Restaurant is very popular due to its good quality food and exceptional service. I’d suggest booking if you are hoping to dine there on a Friday or Saturday.

Food

There is a good range of options on the menu. Vegetarians will be pleased to hear there are plenty of dishes for them to choose from. These guys aim to create authentic Italian food for diners in a relaxed atmosphere. You don’t feel rushed, the staff are at hand very quickly if you need them and nothing appears to be too much trouble.

Starters

Insalata tricolore (v)

Avocado, buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad topped with extra virgin olive oil drizzle

A good sized dish. This is ideal for anyone that loves the classic salad. Everything was exceptionally fresh and it all tasted wonderful. I’d probably suggest rather than cutting in large salad tomatoes into this dish to stick with just cherry tomatoes or to combine the red cherry tomatoes with yellow cherry tomatoes and maybe even some orange. These all have a better texture than the larger tomatoes which tend to be a bit harder. (For those that didn’t know I’m a full on foodie. Now you know, lol!!!) This had a basil and olive oil dressing which was gorgeous and freshly made. I’m tempted to make it at home too.

Bruschetta pomodoro (v)

Bruschetta with cherry tomatoes, garlic and basil

Another well portioned starter. My friend loved it. It had the same olive oil and basic dressing and this added a fabulous flavour to the juicy cherry tomatoes. The bread was toasted and was great as it soaked up the juices from the tomatoes and dressing. A lovely flavourful starter to get the tastebuds ready for the main dish.

Risotto funghi con crema tartufo

Risotto with wild mushrooms, white wine sauce and truffle cream

I’ve not had risotto for years. The last time I did I was awful and never had it since. I decided to give it another go as last time it had been a different restaurant. What can I say? I was blown away. It was amazing. So much better then then the previous place that had served up a sloppy mess. Now don’t let the appearance fool you as it’s really not the most attractive dish. But, the flavour. Wow, it is delicious and yes before you ask, I would definitely order it again, provided it was at this restaurant!

The portion size was just right. My friend somehow managed to gulp hers down a lot faster then me. I’m not sure how as I was sure I was hungry when I got there. Either way, she had finished by the time I’d managed to eat half. For those that know me. Yes, I was probably talking a lot. We were discussing a recent trip. You’ll find out about that soon enough!!! For fun foodie places in London of course.
