Artisan Cheese and Wine Hamper

We were gifted an Artisan Cheese and Wine Hamper Basket by Prestige Hampers in exchange for an honest review.

Hampers make fabulous gifts and also equally wonderful treats.  We often look at hampers for inspiration when looking for gift ideas as there are so many different options, literally one to suit every possible taste.  We all have at least one foodie in our family who’d greatly appreciate a pretty hamper filled with tasty treats.

I was privileged to have been contacted by Prestige hampers who have kindly gifted me with a delicious wine and cheese basket.  The Artisan Cheese and Wine Basket is beautifully presented and contains delicious goodies that complement each other exquisitely.  Ideal for any cheese and wine lover.  The waxed cheeses are made in the traditional west country method and the wines originate from the Central Valley in Chile.  The flavours of these alongside those of the chutney and oatcakes are divine.  All nestled within a lovely Haute hamper, they unite to create a gift ideal for any foodie.

The hamper is comprised of some wonderful artisan items including:

Merlot 75cl Tolva

Sauvignon Blanc 75cl Tolva

Walkers Oatcakes 280g

Cheddar with Caramalised Onion 100g

West Country Farmhouse Cheddar 100g

Cheddar with Chilli and Lime 100g

Mrs Darlington Pear, Apple and Ginger Chutney

Luxury cotton lined hand made wicker Black Hamper Basket

The Wines

Tolva Merlot 2019

Not the wine I had expected as a Cabernet Sauvignon had been mentioned on the website but this was still good.

The Tolva Merlot is delightfully smooth and easy enough to drink on its own.  It has a lovely plum and black cherry flavour with a hint of vanilla and caramel.

Food pairing options include pasta dishes vegetarian meals as well as cheese.  Star ratings put it between a 3 and 4 stars.

Tolva Sauvignon Blanc 2019

The Tolva Sauvignon Blanc is a more crisp wine with citrus and tropical notes.  It is best paired with seafood, salads as well as cheese.

Star rating wise you are looking at around 3 stars out of 5.

The Cheeses

These were all Ford Farm cheeses.  The flavours are varied which I liked and each has its own uniqueness, making it more interesting and giving a different flavour when combined with the other products.

Cheddar with Caramelised Onion

This is Ford Farm’s signature cheese and has a lovely sweetness and tanginess that comes through from the onion.  It’s extremely yummy and one that you may find difficult to share.

West Country Farmhouse Cheddar

Who doesn’t love cheddar?  This cheese is rich and creamy cheese and went well with the wines, chutney and oatcakes.  It’s pretty moreish and you find yourself eating the whole thing quite easily whilst sipping the wine and watching tv.

Cheddar with Chilli and Lime

One of Ford Farms most popular varieties.  This cheese packs a punch, ideal for chilli enthusiasts.  It’s smooth, creamy, with a tanginess and a lasting heat.

Mrs Darlington Pear, Apple and Ginger Chutney

The Prestige Hamper website had mentioned a Ploughmans Chutney.  Instead, a pear, apple and ginger chutney was discovered.  I had no qualms with this being a replacement.  The replacement chutney was fantastic!  Packed full of flavour, this delicious chutney was most enjoyable alongside the crackers and wine.  It’s hardly surprising that it won a 2 star Great Taste Award in 2011.

What Did We Think?

The hamper arrives with the wines hand wrapped for added protection.  I immediately noted that this was with recyclable paper and not bubble wrap.  Nice one guys!  Having done some research the Tolva wine appears to be quite popular in hampers from a range of companies.  This is most certainly be due to the fact they are ideal to pair with different cheeses.  In addition, they are also easy to drink.

The flavours of the individual items complimented each other nicely with the pickle marrying the flavours together with its gorgeous sweet tanginess.  I liked the hamper although I feel it would have benefited from larger pieces of cheese (of course I would, the cheese was fab!) or an extra item or two just to bulk it up a little.  Some nuts, olives or both would have made a great addition to the selection.  The hamper basket looks impressive.  Once emptied, reuse as a picnic hamper or fill with goodies and give it as a gift.  Either way, it won’t go to waste.  I’m considering using it to store some of my cosmetics.

To Summarise

Everything within the hamper was tasty making it a great gift idea for foodies, cheese and wine lovers.  With Christmas coming up it would make a wonderful gift.

Have you ever, or would you buy a hamper as a gift?
