Who doesn’t love a nice Chardonnay? They’re easy to drink and a popular choice to accompany a range of foods. Pairing wines with the wrong foods can affect the flavour of the wine, as well as your enjoyment of the wine and the accompanying food. As the flavour of the chardonnay will be directly affected by the accompanying foods it’s best to avoid food that are strong in flavour or highly spiced. By combining the wine with the right types of foods you’ll find that they complement each other.
Maturum Chardonnay 2017
Alcohol content: 14%
Maturum is the high-end wing of K.Martini & Sohn, a Swiss-Italian winemaking family that has been producing premium wines in South Tirol since 1979.
This multi award-winning wine’s latest award was a Decanter Bronze Medal in 2019. The Maturum Chardonnay is made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes. Like the Azord 2017, a red wine mentioned in a previous post, it is also made in Italy. The wine is oaked – matured and fermented in an oak barrel. The process adds a caramel and vanilla hint to the wine.
The wine has plenty of body and a balanced taste. There is a mouthwatering fruity aroma. You’ll detect a combination of golden apple, pear, pineapple and citrus fruits.
This wine is at its best when served slightly chilled.
Maturum Chardonnay 2017, Best Pairings
The Maturum Chardonnay is best enjoyed on its own or with mild tasting foods. Strong flavours can negatively affect the flavour of the wine. It pairs well with pasta dishes like spaghetti carbonara, meaty fish dishes, shellfish, light Salads (without vinigarette) and cured meats.
The wine also works well paired with salty and creamy cheeses that have a delicate flavour. This includes cheeses such as brie, cheddar and goats cheese. The wine works well when served alongside a cheese platter with theses cheeses, a selection of cured meats and salted nuts.
