(collaborative post) Wine is enjoyed by many of us on its own, with foods, in foods and also with snacks. I’ve been watching Come dine with Me and Couples Come Dine With Me at an obsessive rate over the last 4 months and have realised during this time that many of us Brits are pretty clueless when it comes to pairing wines with foods. I’m pretty much the same so I decided to go on a culinary journey to see which good wines are best to serve which types of meals.
Italian Wines
The Italians really know good wines. With so many options of Italian wines thanks to over 300 grape varieties you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice. It’s the worlds largest wine producer and has something to suit every taste. Every region produced its own wines so it’s hardly surprising they’re ranked 5th in world wine consumption.
Azörd 2017 Italian Red Wine
Alcohol content: 15.5%
Hailing from Monferrato DOC in Italy this marriage of Barbera, Cabernet and Nebbiolo grapes combine to created a blend so delicious that it was awarded the “Two Glasses” award and also listed in the “Italian wine bible” by Gambero Rosso, Italy’s leading food and wine magazine.
The wine itself is dry and fresh. You’ll savour the flavours of red plums and blackberries with hints of cloves and cinnamon thanks to ageing in large oak barrels. This flavour is followed by a slight hint of raisin and then sweet tobacco and leather.
This is a smooth wine that is easy to drink with its nicely balanced fruity aroma.

I don’t drink much red wine but recently been trying new reds. This wine sounds interesting, I like the sound of the plum and blackberry flavours! One to try I think
It certainly is. Wine is not only tasty but also full of antioxidants making it healthy in moderation.
I don’t tend to drink wine often these days, but it’s nice to know of good pairing wines! I do however love a good Italian feast! 🙂 🙂 Sim x
It can help to know which wines work best with foods you like to eat.
I’d honestly have no idea where to start when it comes to pairing my wine and food. I have recently been using wine in my cooking though, opting for a red splashed liberally in a beef casserole and my goodness it was so rich and delicious x
Adding wine works well in food. It can add a wonderful flavour. I know what you mean, I’m very liberal when I add wine to food.
My dad has always enjoyed a glass of wine with his evening meal and prefers red. Will let him know about this one.
Sounds perfect for him. I hope he enjoys the wine.
I agree us Brits suck at pairing wines and I don’t even know what wines for well with meat or fish so thanks for this.
No problem Anosa. I’m glad you found this interesting. Thanks for visiting.
A good red wine can be such a great pairing to a meal, i dont mind them but i have to be in the mood, i prefer Rose at times but this looks a good one, great post.
Thanks Liam. It’s nice to discover a great new wine.
We do drink Italian wine and this one sounds absolutely delicious. Steve really enjoys a red wine so I will mention it to him!
Hi Rebecca. Thanks for visiting. I hope Steve enjoys the wine.
I’m actually not a wine drinker at all, but this sounds like the kind of red wine my dad would love x
I’m sure he’d love this wine. It would make a lovely gift for him.
This sounds like such a fun idea. I love learning different things about food and drink.
It is interesting to discover which wines work best with the meals you enjoy eating.
I love a good glass of red wine and the Azörd 2017 sounds like a great wine, I can’t wait to try this with my evening meal and cheese platter
Enjoy Ash. It’s a great wine to enjoy with a yummy meaty dish.
I have just started liking wine and I think it’s because I know what to look for. This sounds rather nice.
It helps when you know which wines are good and what food to have it with.
My friends love a good red and so does my other half, I will have to tell them about this wine for sure x
I’m sure they’ll enjoy drinking it.
I love a good red wine, and this one sounds right up my street! I’d pair it with something like a delicious lasagne or spag bol. Yum!
Louise x
Those are both good meals to enjoy the wine with.
I have to admit that I am more of a white or rose wine drinker, but I do like a good red with steak, or a roast beef dinner
It’s all about pairing it with the right food. It complements the flavour of the wine and food. This wine goes well with meats.
