We were gifted the Tonka Steel Classics Toughest Mighty Dump Truck and Bulldozer in exchange for an honest review.
Little boys and girls love to play with a large variety of toys. Gone are the days when vehicle toys were for boys only, girls can have just as much fun with them. My son loves all sorts of vehicles from trucks to bulldozers and to have them in toy form is for him even better. The Tonka Steel Range is one I knew he would love and he already has some of the Tonka products. Naturally when asked to review some of their products I was more than willing. Little man had no idea these were coming so when he opened the box and discovered two toys from the Tonka Steel Range he was ecstatic.
About Tonka
Originating in 1947 in Mound, Minnesota it was originally created and manufactured by Mound Metalcraft a company that manufactured garden implements. Mound Metalcraft began selling metal toys and they were so popular it soon became their main business. In November 1955, they changed their name to Tonka Toys Incorporated. Tonka is from the Dakota Sioux word “Tanka” or Tonka, meaning “great” or “big” which is appropriate considering what the items are copies of.
The Tonka trucks were inducted into the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2001 at The Strong in Rochester, New York.
For close to 70 years, Tonka trucks have been known as the kings of the sandbox. Built on the notion that “a toy shouldn’t break just because a child plays with it,” they’re strong, sturdy, and long lasting. Exactly what we as parents want for our money. They’re great for reducing environmental pollution as they are exceptionally durable. You’ll find yourself handing these down to others to be used for their children as the toys last the test of time. To demonstrate the sturdiness of their products, Tonka had an elephant stand on one in the 70’s simply to prove their point.

What Did We Think?
These are pretty fabulous and really did make my son’s day when they turned up without his knowledge. He was beaming for ages and the initial look on his face was priceless when he saw the toys. He really enjoyed playing with both toys and hasn’t managed to break them yet even though he sat in the dump truck! It was hilarious and his sisters were in fits of laughter.
The trucks are really good quality and look realistic. The toys are ideal for encouraging independent play as well as with others. The Tonka Steel Classics are also perfect for developing creativity and encouraging thought and conversation through role play.
Little man enjoyed rolling these around the room and using them to transport his other toys. He also discovered that not only was the dump truck was strong enough for him to sit in, he could also move the wheels and go for a ride. His sister also took great pleasure in pushing him around too. Not quite what it was intended for by we did say these promote creative play!!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Little man is looking forward to taking these toys outside to play. The weather here has been awful. As a result playing outside hasn’t been an option. My son has made it clear he’ll be pushing around the dirt with the bulldozer and filling the dump truck up with soil, stones and big sticks as soon as he can.
Both items included a bonus Tonka collector card on back of the packaging.
These make ideal gifts for girls and boys.
