Simple Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

This is a collaborative post

Spending time with the children is important for me as a mother.  I’m always looking for fun things to do to help pass the time in an enjoyable way.  Recently we’ve been watching a range of cookery programs together and the children have requested to get more hands-on in the kitchen.  Not a problem for me as I enjoy cooking and can make a range of dishes especially sweet treats like Keto Peanut Butter Cupcakes.

I know it’s still a while yet but Easter is approaching and one thing the kids love to do is make chocolate Easter eggs.  But, creating sweet chocolatey treats shouldn’t be limited to Easter.  Seriously, I don’t think I’d survive the week without at least a little chocolate and I’m sure many of you are the same.  The best part is you can easily create your own filled chocolates at home.  All you need to do is buy chocolate moulds, chocolate and whatever you require to make your desired filling.  Once you’ve bought your chocolate moulds you are able to create chocolates for many years to come.

I bought a range of moulds years ago and often made chocolates that would be shared with family and friends.  They are always well received and made wonderful inexpensive gifts that everyone enjoyed.  I’m not sure why I stopped but I’m keen to start making all sorts of delicious treats again and possibly inspire the kids to try some great new flavours.

Here is hopefully my first of a few yummy chocolatey recipes for you all to enjoy.

Here is my recipe for:

Simple Homemade Peanut Butter Cups

Not only is this recipe exceptionally easy to make, these taste amazing and you only need 3 ingredients!  This makes the recipe ideal for those that struggle in the kitchen and are also easy enough for children to make with a little supervision.

Equipment needed

A heatproof bowl

Normal bowl

Chocolate mould (makes 21)

Microwave / pan with hot water – depending on how you want to melt the chocolate

Wooden spoon

Spatula

Teaspoon

Pastry Brush

Ingredients

Milk or Dark chocolate – Cooking chocolate can be used if prefered. Start off with one bar and melt more chocolate if required.

Peanut butter – smooth or crunchy depending on preference – amount will vary depending on your mould and the amount you put in each cup.

Icing sugar

Method

Clean and dry the mould.

To ensure a shine many like to give their moulds quick wipe with sunflower oil.  This doesn’t affect the flavour and helps ensure that the chocolate is glossy (provided the chocolate has been tempered correctly).

Melt your chocolate carefully in the microwave. It’s best to do short bursts and stir so as not to burn the chocolate.

Alternatively, place the bowl over hot water, add in the chocolate and stir. Take care not to burn the chocolate or yourself.

Stir with a wooden spoon.

Once the chocolate has melted allow it to cool but not set.

Spoon enough so a third of the mould is covered from the bottom and using the pastry brush coat the edges.

Place in the fridge to cool for a few minutes.

Whilst this is cooling, spoon out some of the peanut butter.  Add in some icing sugar a little at a time and mix until you are happy with the flavour.

Spoon out approximately a slightly heaped teaspoon of this peanut butter into each cup then top each with chocolate.

Place in the fridge to set briefly.

Once set, remove from the fridge. Turn out the chocolate peanut butter cups and sample one or ten.

Enjoy!

Warning: These are highly addictive.  It is advisable to make small batches if you lack self-control.

Cooking and preparing food is a skill that will remain with children though out their life. Far too many arrive at university without a clue and have to rely on takeaways, at least until the money runs out.

It is a skill we need to teach from a young age. It’s important for parents to try to be hands-on and help their children learn at least the basics.

What a fantastic idea! I keep meaning to buy silicone moulds so that we can bake etc but never remember. If we bake or make treats then they need to be eaten! 😉 Peanut butter cups sound amazing though, would be rude not to give them a try! Sim x

Great for little party bags at children’s birthday parties. Even better if the child who’s birthday it is has helped make them.
