Visiting Taste of London 2012

Visiting Taste of London 2012

Wow, my first ever blog post!!!!!! Please be gentle.

I hope to review a range of items here not only food related and hope this is a fun and interesting read for all.

Having considered setting up a blog for a number of months, I finally decided to bite the bullet after visiting the Fabulous ‘Taste of London‘, in Regents Park. This is such a great food festival and one that takes place yearly. On my visit, I spoke with many of the exhibitors there who were interested in having their products reviewed and some even offered to provide items to be given as prizes for my Fabulous Followers.

What is Taste of London

Taste of London is a Foodies Paradise, hosting an event for the 40 top London restaurants and approximately 200 producers. They have 2 sessions a day from Thursday to the Saturday inclusive and 1 longer session on Sunday.

Currency

The official currency is ‘crowns’. If you plan on sampling any of the Restaurants delicious offerings you really need to get your hands on some. You can buy a book of 20 crowns for £10 with a value of 50p per crown.

Our Day

On arrival, you will be given a menu card which is a little booklet containing the restaurant menus, a map and time tables for the various food theatres. Some of these you will need to book tickets for in advance. Menus can be viewed online in the weeks leading up to the show. I would always advise you to take a note of places and meals you would like to try prior to visiting (having been for the last 3 years) and then marking them in your menu guide when you arrive as there is a good chance you may run out of time and miss out on some of the gorgeous food otherwise.

Free samples are offered on a majority of the promoters stalls, allowing you to try wines, beers, flavoured vodkas, chocolates, cheeses, crisps, dips, salamis, olives, and soooooo much more. But, make sure you leave room for the restaurant food. Otherwise, you will really be missing out, how often can you dine from London’s best restaurants all at once!

Whilst there I was very excited to meet the very sweet and talented Chocolatier Dean from Lindt who was demonstrating how to make Hazelnut Pralines dipped in white chocolate and topped with a sugared almond deeeeee-licious!

My First Ever Oyster

Before my visit, I had never tried oysters. Thanks to the encouragement of the lovely people at Slow Food UK and their ‘Forgotten Food Roulette Wheel’ I can say I have now! This was the lucky oyster.

It wasn’t as bad as some would have you believe, with a dash of Tabasco and a squeeze of lemon.

These would be fab at a dinner party as a starter, very easy to prepare all you need to do is give them a good scrub first, pop each open with a blunt knife (be very careful), poke the knife under the oyster to cut the muscle that holds it to the shell, serve 2 per person with a wedge of lemon and a little salad garnish at the side. And of course, don’t forget the bottle of Tabasco.

One of the restaurants that I would love to try is Gaucho, having sampled some of their dishes at Taste this is definitely on my Must Try list, some of their offerings for Taste this year:

Sea Bass Ceviche with Mango and Passion fruit sauce

Salted Dulche De Leche and Chocolate Tarte

absolutely amazing dishes, worth popping in to one of their branches.

Another gorgeous dish was the Fettucine with Wild Mushrooms and Black Summer Truffle by
L’Anima

These were selling like hotcakes and for good reason. Perfectly cooked pasta with a generous grating of truffle, sign me up for another next year guys.

It was lovely Visiting Taste of London 2012. I am sure to revisit again in coming years.
