Choosing the Right Bra for Your Outfit

With age comes experience. Over the years many females will discover that the bra that they choose to wear can be influenced by the outfit they are wearing. There are various factors to consider when deciding what type of bra you will require for your chosen outfit. In this post, you will see why choosing the right bra for your outfit is important not just for comfort purposes but also for functional purposes and the overall appearance of your outfit ensemble.

Choosing the Right Bra for Your Outfit

It goes without saying, it’s important to wear the right bra with the right outfit. But, what is the right bra, and which style of bra goes with what type of outfit? Different bra styles can enhance different outfits, here are some examples to consider:

Light Coloured / Sheer Outfits

When wearing these types of clothes you ideally want to consider using a bra that it either nude. The colour should be similar to your skin tone in order for it to blend in. Wearing a white bar isn’t always the best option for a discrete look as it can show through thin material. A nude coloured bra blends in with your skin instead of giving an obvious bra outline.

Low Cut Necklines

If your top or dress has a low neckline then why not consider a plunge bra. Unlike a regular bra, these won’t be visible in most cases when we wear low neck outfits. These bras have angled demi cups that compliment low neck clothing options beautifully. For a little more cleavage, a push up lunge bra is ideal. This is a popular bra choice that gives both shape and support.

Off Shoulder Tops and Dresses

In some instances we need a bra but don’t want bra straps to show. An easy fit is a strapless bra. These are a perfect choice and can work well. You could also consider a bra that has detachable straps, or even lift and shape tape in place of a bra. With each option, there are no bra straps to worry about. Your choice will of course depend on how much support you need in that area.

Broad/Square Neck Tops

A balcony, also know as a balconette bra would be just what you need to wear if your dress or top has a broad or square neck. These bras are designed with wide set straps and have less coverage than some other bra styles avoiding your bra from showing. Companies like Belle Lingerie have a lovely range of options to choose from.

Choosing the Right Bra for Your Outfit

Sports Outfits

Naturally, when we are undertaking any form of physical exercise it makes sense to wear a sports bra. These types of bras help to give us the extra support, bounce reduction that we need and they can be super comfy too. Some sport bras are designed in a way that they are a top and bra in one. They don’t just give suitable support, they look great too.

Tight Fitting Clothing

The T-Shirt Bra is one of the most popular bra choices. It is seamless has smooth rounded cups. These give a natural rounded smooth look so can be suitable to wear under dresses, T-shirts and figure hugging tops.

Strappy Dress

Sometimes we don’t want bra straps to show when we wear strappy dresses. In these instances, strapless bras can be a great option. However, if you don’t mind straps showing, or if you want to add a little bling to your outfit you could opt for thin decorative straps. These decorative straps can be added to strapless bras or those with detachable straps. There are various options available, ones with diamantes if your dress has thin black straps would compliment it well if it can be blended in to look like part of the dress.

To Conclude

I hope you have found my post about Choosing the Right Bra for Your Outfit both interesting and informative. We don’t always know what types of bras can compliment outfits best as this comes with experience and a varied wardrobe. I hope this post has helped shed some light on the topic.

Is there a specific type of bra you favour? Do you wear just one style of bra or do you change styles depending on your outfit?

I have been the only guy in a house full of women for years, and I am continually amazed at the amount of actual planning it takes to wear a bra. I never in my life thought I would actually know about things like strapless bras and back fat bulges and all the other craziness women seem to have to know. I just put on boxers, and I’m good.

I generally wear the same bra for everything. I am boring. But I do need to get a push up. I am curious on how it’ll work for me. I have a tiny chest. Think A cup. And sometimes I want more substance.

Oh wait, I do have a strapless bra as well but I haven’t worn it in a long time.

      1. Maria

I definitely always go for a nude bra under a light coloured top. A white bra can show even more than a black one, depending on colour and fabric.

        1. Melanie Edjourian

That’s true and under some light they kind of glow. Not the best look.

These are helpful tips! I am not really mindful of the type of bra that I use as long as the straps are not exposed then I am good with it.

Thank you for reminding me to get a new sports bra. I am planning to do more outdoor activities and extra support is a must.

    1. Melanie Edjourian

Exposed straps are not a good look. Bras that help you hide them are great!

  32. Ella English

I don’t really wear sheer outfits or plunging necklines, so I really don’t need any of those bras. I am very happy to relax in a sports bra as that is the most comfortable.
