Marcus Kitchen Enfield

Recently I got to see some friends I’ve not managed to meet up with in ages. I do love catching up with friends and one of the easiest ways to do that is to meet up at a restaurant. That way you save on having to shop, cook and then clean up after. It also means I get to escape the kids, even if it’s only for a few hours. Our most recent get-together was at Marcus Kitchen Enfield. In this post, I’ll tell you all about this great London restaurant and the dishes we tried.

Marcus Kitchen Enfield

Marcus Kitchen Enfield (London)

Located in the heart of Enfield this little gem of a restaurant use only the finest ingredients to create traditional Neapolitans and Southern Italian recipes. I love Italian food and it’s clear with the mix of dishes available why this restaurant is so popular.

The menu consists of a mix of dishes that cover just about every dietary preference. I’m still looking to go back to sample their fresh burrata cheese with cherry tomato and salad or parma ham which sound like a gorgeous starter as does their aubergine parmigiana with parmesan and tomato sauce although I’m sure I’d want that in main size as it is a dish I’ve always enjoyed in the past elsewhere.

They have a great range of seafood options which I understand are extremely popular. The Crostacei in bella vista – pan fried half lobster, prawns, and langoustines served with crostini, tomatoes and shellfish sauce sounds wonderful and certainly a dish to go and enjoy when you’re out celebrating.

We ordered mains only on this occasion. These are the dishes we tried:

Carbonara

(Spaghetti pasta, egg, guanciale, parmesan and pecorino chese)

Marcus Kitchen Enfield Carbonara

This classic favourite of many people I know was lovely. The dish was flavourful, creamy, and had just enough cheese and guanciale. I will admit I did try to cut off some of the fatty bits as there were quite a few large chunks. The dish was a good size and I thought it was well-priced compared to some of the other local restaurants. It’s a dish that I really love and if you’ve not tried it yet but love creamy, cheesy pasta dishes that are a popular comfort food this is the dish for you. A must try.

Vongole

(Spaghetti with, white wine, clams and garlic)

Marcus Kitchen Enfield Vongole

This is another popular dish I’ve noticed when dining at Italian restaurants. There were a reasonable number of clams in this dish which was great. My friend loved this and apparently, it’s one of their favourites when dining at this restaurant. The dish was simple yet flavourful and one they would not hesitate to order again. A small dish is provided to pop the clam shells in so you don’t need to push them around the side of the plate whilst you eat.

Nero di seppia

(Linguine with cuttlefish, cherry tomatoes in cuttlefish ink sauce)

Nero di seppia at Marcus Kitchen Enfield

I’ve noticed a rise over the years in dishes with squid ink in various restaurants in London. It appears to have become more popular. This dish is packed with flavour and is something a little different if you’re feeling adventurous. The ink adds a great flavour to the pasta dish. There are good-sized pieces of cuttlefish hidden within the dark pasta, like small surprises to discover as you eat.

Filetto di maiale

(grilled pork with rosemary and peppers)

Filetto di maiale at Marcus Kitchen Enfield

You get some lovely pieces of lean pork fillet in this dish. This is perfect for any hardened carnivore and I can see a fair few of my family members opting for that dish when we next visit. The meat was tasty and the roasted peppers complimented the pork well with the rosemary in the background giving an extra boost of flavour. This was a great filling dish and a good one for anyone counting calories.

Mixed Salad

Marcus Kitchen Enfield Mixed Salad

We ordered one for the table as not everyone wanted salad. The mixed salad was pretty simple and although colourful and pretty it could have done with being a bit more exciting. This could have been achieved easily by simply adding a few more tomatoes and olives and maybe a little cucumber and cheese. This comes dressing free for anyone calorie counting or simply being careful although I’m sure they’d pop over some olive oil and balsamic vinegar if requested.

Overall Thoughts

The restaurant is very popular. Whilst we were there we saw it go from having another table taken to almost filling up, although the indoor seating space isn’t very large. There seems to have great care taken in every dish made and we couldn’t find much fault with any of the dishes ordered. The staff were all friendly and attentive and helpful. It’s certainly a restaurant to try if you will be in the area as you are guaranteed a delicious meal in a cosy, relaxed, inviting setting.

You can try making your own spaghetti carbonara using my recipe that uses cream instead of eggs. Alternatively, why not try courgetti carbonara.

Do you like Italian food? What’s your favourite Italian dish? Would you try any of the dishes that we tried on our visit to Marcus Kitchen Enfield?

I have never actually been in a proper italian restaurant, so it was good to read about your experience. I actually made my own pizza when we came back from Rome a few years ago, and it was like the proper italians make them, not like our ones covered in cheese and tomato sauce! Its always worth a try
