With the number of people all competing for the same jobs, employers can pick and choose the best candidates for the position they have available. Whether you are aiming for a low or high paid job, skilled or not you will need to make sure you prepare thoroughly for the interview. You’d be surprised how many turn up for interviews totally unprepared and as a result, fail to get to a second interview or to be offered the position.
Having interviewed people from various angles – as a medical herbalist taking patient consultations and also as an employer interviewing staff I have had many years of experience in interviewing and questioning. Here are a few tips that will help you on your way.
What Do You Need to Do to Prepare For An Interview?
Do your Research/Preparation
It’s surprising how many people go to an interview without having prepared adequately. It’s important to find out about the company you are applying to work at and also have the answer to the following prepared:
Why do you want to work here?
What do you think you can bring to the team?
What makes you a suitable candidate for the position?
Why should we hire you?
Think of Examples
Some companies may ask you to provide examples of where you have shown leadership, good judgment, initiated good teamwork etc. Make sure you think of a few examples under each category.
Practise
It can help to practice with a friend. This can help you think about your responses and increase your confidence in answering the questions you’ve prepared answers for. It can also help calm you in the interview as you will have prepared answers for questions they are quite likely to ask.
Location
Make sure you know exactly how to get to the location you are being interviewed. It is good etiquette to get there early. Be sure to check transport updates in case there problems on the tubes/roads etc.
Appearance
With any interview, a neat tidy well-presented candidate will impress far better than one that hasn’t put much effort into their choice of clothes, hairstyle, and makeup. Make sure you have your clothes ready from the day before so that there are no issues on the day.
Did you have any suggestions for those preparing for an interview?

Good advice, preparation really is key. I used to manage a recruitment agency do have interviewed hundreds of people over the years. Giving evidence based Ansari is always a winner as it shows you actually can do something, rather than just talk about it. Mich X
