Remote Working
Now that remote working has become commonplace, people are less dependent on geography for work. If your company allows you to work from home, at least the majority of the time, you could consider moving to a more rural location. You could even build a garden office with that extra outdoor space. Do your research beforehand and find out what work and education opportunities there are from your chosen area.
More Space for Pets
Living in the countryside is a great option for animal lovers. You’ll likely have more space for large pets such as dogs, horses, and even GB Alpacas now wouldn’t that be amazing they’re so cute!. If you are able to acquire more land you could even keep farm animals. This is usually more difficult to come by in the city. Wide-open space can be very therapeutic for people as well. You can take in the country air and go for long walks without seeing another soul in sight. You’ll come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Connection with Nature
As well as keeping your own animals you can also spot local wildlife. There’s definitely something to be said about nature therapy. Getting in touch with nature allows you to gain perspective. It can also be beneficial for children as they will learn more about ecology. You’ll need to make sure you have some good walking boots to give you the support you need.
Opportunities for Outdoor Play
There are also many benefits of outdoor play for kids, besides getting in touch with nature. It encourages physical activity without them even realising it. It also helps to engage their curiosity and creativity. They will learn to play with fewer toys and screens and develop other useful skills such as problem-solving, multitasking, and decision-making, along with various social skills. Exposure to the sun and elements is also beneficial for developing a more robust immune system. Playing outdoors can also help improve their mood amongst other mental well-being benefits. It’s also a great stress reliever.
Local Community
If you relocate to the countryside, you’re more likely to automatically form part of a local community. You may view this as an advantage or disadvantage depending on your preferences. One good thing is that you will be able to benefit from local produce and in turn support local businesses. There are various reasons why you should support local businesses. It’s better for the environment as local businesses tend to be more sustainable, especially if their products are ethically-sourced from nearby suppliers. If you would like to live in a more close-knit community, then relocating to the countryside could be right for you.

The countryside is a beautiful place to live! We live up north, where there are farms and small towns, it is really nice to be away from all the hustle and bustle of the city!
It can be a nice way to live. So much more relaxed.
I moved from a larger city to a smaller city, and I definitely enjoy it more. It is nice to have more space and room to do things.
That’s the added bonus, property is normally cheaper so you can have much more space.
I have always wanted to move to the country, it is definitely the dream. These are great reasons to relocate. I’d love to keep some animals, a goat, sheep a pig and lots of chickens!!
Oh I think I am going to be searching for homes today!
Wouldn’t that be amazing. A test run at one of these farms might be an option. Some allow people to stay in and get involved with day to day stuff.
Yes, Yes, Yes to the countryside! This is the dream my husband and I have for our future and we can not wait to make it happen. Thanks for sharing.
I hope you get there. Honestly, I love both the city and the countryside. The countryside would be great to help have a more relaxed way of living.
I am seriously thinking about it !
I think more and more are these days.
It’s true. All the houses I like are so quickly sold.
Reading and reading your points carefully it is really very difficult not to agree with you in fact. Excellent considerations for making this decision.
It is a big decision but one more and more are opting to do.
I just loved this post and my husband and I just bought a home in the country by our standards. We have lived outside of NYC on Long Island for 10 years or so and just bought a house about 2 hours away in The Poconos of PA. It is much slower and I love it! It is beautiful with hiking trails, waterfalls lots of lakes and the beautiful mountains. There is much to be loved about both areas when living in them but I am for sure loving the slower pace.
Wow, that really does sound amazing Melissa. I’d love to be somewhere like that.
I live in Derbyshire and there is plenty of countryside around us. It is just perfect. There are loads of places to go for a walk and being surrounded by nature really lifts your mood.
It can really help you relax your mind being out in the fresh country air.
Yes to those reasons. A countryside living gives a more peaceful and homey feel. plus of course, the outdoor play is such a big advantage especially if you have kids who you would want to experience nature
Mine would love it. So many fun adventures kids can enjoy.
I’ve always wondered what it would be like to live in the countryside. These all sound like great reason!
They sure are. It’s such a great place to live for a more relaxed way of life.
The countryside sounds like a lovely place to relocate or retire to. The city is fun and exciting but it’s so expensive and can become very isolating in way.
The city is expensive and can be isolating especially when you work long hours.
These are truly wonderful reasons for those wanting to relocate to a more relaxed surrounding and enjoy a more quiet life. A much better quality of life indeed
It really is. I’d love a home in the country and the city to enjoy both.
While we’re not in the countryside we moved out of the main city centre and town I’ve lived in my whole life for a lot of these reasons. We wanted more space and more greenery (plus we’ve gotten way more for our money) x
That’s great to hear. The size of the property will be considerably larger which is great.
My husband and I are just a few years away from retirement! I would love to retire to the countryside! Thanks for the info!
I’d love to move to the countryside, so calming and peaceful , have said that for years now
Great post, I would absolutely LOVE to move to the countryside some day! I would love being able to wake up each morning to beautiful countryside views and walk around outside without being near main roads and city noise! I already work from home so would be ideal for me lol! x
I can’t imagine living in a city again I have to say, I like living out in a village and I would love to be more in the countryside too.
We always said if we ever move back to the UK we’d probably get a cottage in the countryside. Quiet life and walks in the country appeal to us more and more as we get older!
The other day, my husband was telling me that in future he is interested in moving to the countryside as he loves such places and laidback lifestyle! Who doesn’t love greenery? 😍
As someone who lives in the English countryside, I definitely agree with all of these, I love the peace, space, and nature.
I feel so at home in nature. Living in the countryside sounds so dreamy. A slower pace of life and nature abounding…it couldn’t get any better!
I would easily relocate to the countryside. There’s so many benefits to moving out of the city. I love how the homes in the countryside are much bigger than the ones in the city.
Country life is good but at the same time difficult and isolated especially when you are a teenager
I used to live in London and whenever I traveled back up north I could always feel the change in air quality.
I have always lived in the county, so relaxing better that living in a town or city, down side is very few shops.
