Nobody likes clutter especially my husband (lol). A room can be clean enough to eat your dinner off but if there are items lying around it can look messy. While clutter can be the result of untidiness (that’s normally due to my children most often at mine) it could also be a sign that you don’t have room for everything. If your house could do with a clear-out I know my sure could, then take a look at some of the following tips to make your home clutter-free in 2018.

Dedicate A Day To Decluttering
If you’re serious about having a clutter-free home then you’re going to need a fair amount of time to do it. It’s much easier to focus on the task at hand when you’ve got nothing else planned. Weekends can be great for getting things done so set aside a Saturday or Sunday to tackle decluttering head on. Getting the rest of the family involved can help make it easier to get the task done faster. In some cases it can be an idea to do it when children are at school or asleep if your child doesn’t like to throw things out. One of my daughters has already asked me to do this as she can’t bare to part with anything even clothing she has outgrown.
Be Ruthless
It can be difficult to get rid of things. You find yourself asking if you’ll miss that item or try to justify why you need it. Adjust your thinking and instead ask yourself more ruthless questions to help you declutter. If you’ve not used an item in over a year, it’s time let to go.
Have A Disposal Strategy In Place
It’s all well and good deciding what to throw out, but what are you going to do with it? It makes sense to divide your items up into categories based on their condition and so on. Items that are new or barely used have the potential to do well on eBay; others could be donated to charity while you could consider recycling others or offering them for free on sites like freecyle or gumtree.
Many use the internet to get rid of unwanted items and using a good shipping service helps make it easier. If you’re looking for a good solution then read Shiply’s reviews to show you why they’re a top choice to help you get rid of your unwanted goods. They come highly recommended by my husband and some of his friends. Selling your unwanted items could help give you some extra money which could be put towards some great new storage furniture or treating the family.
Adopt A One-In, One-Out Policy
Even after decluttering your home it can be easy to fall back into bad habits. Rather than having to repeat the process again in six months or a year start changing your habits at home. When it comes to clothing or shoes for example, a ‘one-in, one-out’ policy can make all the difference. Consider using clothes or mobile phone recycling programmes to make it a bit easier to get rid of individual items. You’ll reduce the task of getting rid of your unwanted goods while also stopping yourself from bringing too much back into your home.
Decluttering is a great way to work towards the tidy home, tidy mind philosophy. With everything having its own place your home will look more spacious and you’ll find items much more easily.
Will you be decluttering your home?

I would love to de-clutter for the start of this year, but my partner is terrible and just puts more clutter around as soon as I get rid!
My wife needs to read this as she is a proper hoarder – if I had my way I’d call the charity shop and tell them to bring the biggest van they can find
Great tips, thank you. I really need to do this….
