How to Revamp Your Home Office

Collaborative post. Many of us have spent the last two years working from home. As a result, some of us are now working from home on a permanent or part-time basis. You don’t realise how important having an office or dedicated office space is until you need one. If you are working from home more now than pre-pandemic then you’ll want to make sure your workspace is sufficiently equipped to all for this. This post will be looking at how to revamp Your Home Office Space.

How to Revamp Your Home Office

How to Revamp Your Home Office

We don’t realise how an office space can affect us until we are forced to use it day in day out. Then the areas that are lacking become apparent all too quickly. It can affect our creativity, ability to focus and productivity so it makes sense to ensure this space is well organised. An optimal office space is both modern and comfortable. It will be different for each of us and based on our individual requirements and preferences. Before you consider how to build or revamp your home office, consider your unique work situation so that you can optimize the space for your needs.

Although we will have our own tastes and requirements there are some things that we should all consider when looking to create a great home office space in our own home.

Modernise the Walls

The appearance of the walls in your office will make a huge difference to its ambience. Outdated, chipped wallpaper can make your workspace far less appealing and may affect your motivation to work. Simply switching up your wall decor can immediately brighten up the space and it takes very little effort or money. Aim to keep the walls fairly neutral and avoid excessive patterns or extremely bright colours.

When you’re sitting in the office for several hours a day, anything too bright and garish may start to give you a headache or affect your ability to focus on work. You could consider Venetian plaster, plain wallpaper, or a neutral colour of paint. Stick to cream, white, and beige tones.

Add Greenery to Your Work Space

When you’re stuck inside all day, having some greenery in your office can help to keep you connected to the outdoors. Place some standing plants in the corner of your room and add some smaller plants on your desk. They don’t need to be real if you want to avoid the daily upkeep. Even fake options will add some colour and character to your office area. You can find real plants in your local supermarket and garden centre. You’ll also find plenty of great online stores that sell realistic-looking fake plants.

Brighten Up the Room

Allow as much natural light into the room as possible. Not only does exposure to sunlight provide lots of bright light for you to work in, but it also has numerous benefits for your physical and mental health. Sunlight can help you to synthesise vitamin D, which can boost your immune system and the production of serotonin and dopamine. These hormones will help you to feel more motivated and happier with your work. You’ll also need some artificial lights around your office in case you’re working late. Place a lamp on your desk or use a standing lamp to illuminate your working area. Avoid using overhead lighting wherever possible. Sitting under a strong overhead light can cause headaches due to the overbearing glow.

Work in Comfort

Seating is one of the key areas you’ll need to consider when thinking about how to revamp your home office. Many work for hours seated without taking breaks so it makes a big difference to your comfort levels. Make sure you upgrade your chair to something that not only feels comfortable but also one that offers suitable support. This can help you avoid back and neck pain.

In addition, your desk needs to be of a suitable height for prolonged working hours. The size may be important depending on the amount of space you require. This will of course vary between professions as some require more paperwork than others.

Keep Your Office or Office Space Tidy

It may sound obvious but keeping your desk or workspace tidy can influence how effectively you can work. It’s also nice to have a tidy room and desk. It can be a good idea to buy some office supplies such as trays to keep papers stacked away neatly reducing clutter on the table. Where you work with a larger amount of paperwork you may need to add in filing cabinets to keep the space tidy and papers in an easy to find and access order.

My office is in our walk-in closet, lol, so it’s kind of a small space. My desk is just a small moveable table, so it can only hold my laptop and mouse.
