Gifts for Dad’s 2023

Tasty Sweet Goodies from Lottie Shaw’s

This is one of my most favourite discoveries so far this year. Lottie Shaw’s have some of the most delicious items available on their site that would make the most amazing treats for dads all year around. Their products are so much nicer than shop bought which are often made with inferior quality ingredients. Lottie Shaw’s was set up by Lottie who was inspired by her families baking history that spans some 100 years. She uses these family recipes to carry on the family’s passion for baking. Having grown up in her parent’s bakery she was inspired to create her own company that has grown in leaps and bounds, winning awards along the way.

The Ingredients

The various tasty treats are made with the finest ingredients, free range eggs, locally milled flour, oatmeal from one of the oldest family firms in the UK and they use oil from oil is from their award winning friends at Yorkshire Rape Seed oil. OMG, I wish I was a taste tester for these guys!!!

Products

Lottie Shaw’s was crowned The Official Taste of Yorkshire in 2018, they supply retailers Nationwide. Their products include a range of biscuits, cakes and puddings, flapjacks and chocolate bakes, fudge, and chocolates. They also supply a variety of beverages including luxury hot chocolate, breakfast tea, a premium Prosecco, and premium red and white wine. The latter 3 come in a wooden gift box.

Fabulous Plants From Serenata Flowers

All of the men I know love plants. In fact, my dad has received some lovely plant gifts over the years from me and my siblings. My husband also loves plants and always gets excited when I bring a new one home to add to our collection. I’ve often bought floral gifts from Serenata Flowers from my mum and other female friends, but this year I’m gifting the men in my life lovely gifts from this great company. If you head on over to the site, you’ll discover why. It’s not just stunning floral bouquets that are available on the site. You will also find some lovely plants too.

Choosing A Plant

You’ll see some beautiful options available on the site and it helps that the site has these all clearly labelled. You can select from best sellers if you’re not sure what to get. You can choose plants by type whether you are looking for ones that flower, orchids, green indoor plants, pet friendly plants, or easy care plants. There are even short and tall plant sections. They make it really easy for you to find just what you need. Each of these plants comes with free delivery which is convenient too!!!

Which Plants Stood Out Most

On looking at the various plant options available the ones that stood out the most were:

Emerald Forest

This lush green leafy plant is very pretty due to the way the leaves fan out. It really is eye-catching. I also found it convenient that it is pet friendly as my parents have a cat so I always need to be careful when giving them floral gifts. We can’t have anything happening to Roxi the cat, their baby, now that myself and my siblings have all flown the nest. This Cascade Palm is a pretty hardy plant and is easy to look after. It adds a lovely splash of green to a living room and looks great on its own and placed with other plants too. It grows well in shade and can be kept indoors or outside depending on what you prefer.

Forest Firework

Again, a plant that is easy to look after, the Forest Firework is an evergreen Dieffenbachia plant. This is best for shaded spots and kept away from radiators and direct sunlight. It can thrive indoors although where kept in a low light environment the leaves will change from dark green and white to all green. This plant only needs a light watering and enjoys a misting a few times a week to keep it healthy. It doesn’t need much care and when looked after properly lives for many years.

Dragon’s Kiss

The Dragon’s Kiss is a bestseller on the Serenata Flowers website for obvious reasons. This purple spotted dendrobium orchid is quite beautiful. The plant is easy to care for and is also pet safe. The orchid needs plenty of light although doesn’t like direct sunlight so aim to place it on a window sill with light shade. They need to be watered approximately twice a week and appreciate a good misting. If taken care of properly these can last from 10 to 15 years. These are a stunning addition to any indoor plant collection.

Sweet Grace

One of my favourite plants from the flowering options, the Sweet Grace or Stephanotis plant is a lovely flowering plant to have in the home. It has pretty white flowers alongside shiny evergreen leaves. Better still is the fragrance which is similar to that of jasmine. The fragrance will fill your home and have it smelling amazing during the flowering season which is between spring and summer. The individual flowers last about 10 days each and the overall show up to approx 6 weeks. This is a gorgeous gift but does require more care than the other plants mentioned in regards to watering and fertilizer. This needs weekly gentle watering and regular spraying. This plant likes bright light, but not direct hot sunlight.

Savoury, Sweet, and Alcoholic Hampers

Virginia Hayward have a range of hampers that can make lovely gifts. I find it helps that there are a variety of price options available on the website making it easier for all to gift a loved one a great treat. Simply peruse the site and find a suitable hamper packed with items the recipient would enjoy. Hampers include a wide array of items from wine, cider, spirits, popcorn, pretzels, nuts, olives, tea, biscuits, sweets, smoked salmon, beauty products etc.

How To Choose the Right Gift?

You want to choose something that is right for the recipient. Consider something that might be a treat for them, something they may not get to enjoy often or that may let them indulge, something like the:

Breakfast Tray £39.99

This hamper comes packed with “a delicious selection of treats to start the day the right way”. In the hamper, you’ll find a tasty selection of breakfast goodies including English breakfast tea from Cartwright and Butler and a strong, black coffee from the Edinburgh Tea and Coffee Company perfect to help wake you up. This goes well followed by the butter croissants from St Pierre which go well with the Mackays Strawberry Preserve or Fine Cut Orange Marmalade included. Savour the flavour of the sliced smoked salmon from Severn and Wye which you can wash down with a cool glass of R&R Prosecco for a truly stylish breakfast in bed or a glass of refreshing Cartwright and Butler Orange Juice. Perfect to share or enough for a couple of breakfasts in bed. Not something we get to have every day!

Beer Lover’s Case £24.99

If your father, husband etc is a beer lover then this could be the perfect choice for them. The Beer Lover’s Case includes 6 different beers from Glastonbury Ales. The case includes Hedge Monkey, Equinox, Mystery Tor, Zen, Spring Loaded and Cold Gold. This has a good selection of beers and is a lovely gift now the weather is improving. There is nothing better for a beer lover than a cold brew to help cool them down on a relaxed evening.

Wine and Cheese Slate £37.50

Cheese and wine make a great pairing and are perfect in a gift hamper. This particular hamper includes 3 of the company’s favourite West Country cheeses. Barber’s Farmhouse Mature Cheddar truckle, a tasty wedge of Long Clawson Blue Stilton and a delicious Camembert made by Cricket St Thomas in the heart of Somerset. They have also included a bottle of De Bortoli Willowglen Shiraz Cabernet to complement these. Who doesn’t love cheese and crackers, so to combine with these tasty cheeses is a box of MOR Cornmeal and Poppy Seed Snap Crackers and a tasty topping of Shaws Caramelised Red Onion Chutney with Balsamic. These all come with a beautiful, presentation slate which is perfect when hosting, and also provides a more elegant way for the recipient to enjoy the hamper contents.

The Indulgence £75

This is one of the larger varied hampers that you’ll find on the Virginia Hayward site and includes a lovely and large mix of items. The contents of the hamper come in a grey tapered storage basket that can be repurposed within the home once emptied. Inside you’ll find chocolate orange popcorn, Mallow & Marsh Chocolate Marshmallows, Sweet Cured Ham & Pickle Yorkshire Crisps, a chocolate slab cake from Maxwell & Franks. They also have some nuts, olives, chutney and cheese nibbles that are perfect to go with the delectable drinks. Drinks include Franklin & Sons Cherry & Plum Sparkling Soft Drinks as well as a fine pair of Italian wines, Fonte Della Vigna Sangiovese Merlot Rubicone and Trebbiano Chardonnay Rubicone.

Whisky Gifts from the Whisky Tasting Company

Whisky gifts for men can be very popular. If I’m looking for a gift for my husband or his brothers then at the top of their list is going to be whisky. The great thing is there are plenty of options when it comes to whisky. But, it’s also important to consider you want to focus on quality, not quantity. This is where a specialist company like the Whisky Tasting company can be a great help. This company works with a number of great whisky brand owners in Scotland as well as other countries which allows them to present premium, old and rare whiskies in their lovely whisky gift sets. They even have their own bottling facility within the borders of Scotland.

Amazon Made In Italy

With the summer rapidly approaching many of us are yearning for a lovely trip away somewhere beautiful, relaxing, with historic sites to explore. Well, a trip abroad might be a little out of your budget, but products made in Italy won’t be. This is totally new to my blog as it’s a recent discovery albeit a pretty awesome one. Did you know, there is a yearly Made in Italy event on Amazon? Neither did I!! It’s pretty awesome though. Each year they feature some lovely products that are literally made in Italy – with exclusive offers for you to take advantage of.

Choose from fashion accessories, items for the home, beauty and wellness and food. You’ll find some wonderful options under each category.

Fashion Accessories

You’ll find items such as jewellery, watches, sunglasses, gym clothing, and sneakers to name but a few.

Home

You’ll find a wide range of great items from pasta makers, coffee machines, various types of pans, kettles, various types of moulds and a lot more.

Beauty and Wellness

Items such as beard oil, hair pomade, hair serum, cologne, and safety razors can be bought from this section for the men in your life.

Food

There are some delicious food options available for all those  foodies out there. Naturally, there are plenty of coffee options as well as a range of alcoholic drinks, a range of foods which could be used to make a hamper etc.

If you miss the event you’ll still find plenty of great items that you can buy all year around that would make great gifts.

2 of my favourite item from the site:

Cream Meloncello Liquor 700ml- Italian Cream Melon Liqueur £20.99

This triple medal winner is a really lovely gift idea. The liquor is one I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in the past and I can safely say it is delicious. It is rich and creamy liquor with a lovely sweet, ripe melon flavour. It’s beautiful served chilled where possible. You can pour it over it but this dilutes the drink a bit so chilled is preferable.

Hazelnut Cream Liquor £18.89

This liquor I have yet to try but it sounds wonderful. The thought of a smooth hazelnut liquor that is a double award winner really is quite enticing. Again, this would be best served chilled so make room in your fridge and get ordering, I know I will!!!

LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW Gourmet Liquorice

When you think of liquorice honestly let’s face it gourmet chocolate coated liquorice isn’t the first thing to pop into your head right? I didn’t think so. I recently came across the fabulous LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW and have been raving about their liquorice ever since. This liquorice is nothing like the run of the mill liquorice you find in the shops. This is far more adventurous, a much more exciting treat for the tastebuds that takes them on a flavour adventure. We’ve been working our way through the various flavours on the site and believe me there are far more than I ever expected.

One of their newest offerings is their slow crafted liquorice collection. This is gently cooked in an open batch for four hours and hand crafted giving the liquorice a rich caramel like texture. The company only uses carefully sourced organic ingredients when making their slow crafted range. This collection introduces 3 different flavours mango vanilla, caramel date, and dark truffle. They come in recycled glass jars that are ideal for reuse. Also available are refill bags of each of the slow crafted flavour options.

Mango Vanilla

Here they combine delicious sweet Alphonso mangoes with sweet bourbon vanilla within a creamy white chocolate. Hidden within is a yummy slow crafted liquorice centre. These give a well balanced sweet and fruity taste sensation.

Dark Truffle

The delicious slow crafted liquorice core is enrobed in a thin layer of smooth melt in the mouth creamy milk chocolate. This is cocoa dusted and ready for our enjoyment. It’s gorgeous!

Caramel Date

A wondrous marriage of flavours, smooth dulce chocolate and crunchy Maldon sea salt flakes create a moreish sweet coating within which is a piece of slow crafted liquorice that is amazingly caramellike. Possibly your newest favourite sweet treat.

Options

You can buy each flavour individually in a jar, buy refill bags, buy a slow crafted refill family selection (a jar and refill pack of each flavour), LÆMON mixed and slow crafted selection box or a slow crafted selection box. Any of these would make a great gift for anyone that loves liquorice and discovering new flavours.

  7. Wendy Lam-Vechi

I think for most dads, you can’t go wrong with a food gift. They might even share it with you, haha. With young kids, it is hard to fit in a proper meal, so anything that can be eaten, is always a winner with my husband.

And of course, with young kids come lack of sleep, so I’m sure anything that can increase the comfort of sleep and length of sleep is welcomed

    1. admin

Food gifts and those that encourage sleep can be a big hit!

These gifts allow the recipient to create special memories for themselves, often with a companion, which is such a lovely bonus.
