We were gifted a BenQ Piano Light for the purpose of this review. All thoughts are my own. Just to note, images will not be adjusted (unless specified), contrast, brightness etc so you can clearly see the difference the light makes.
We only discovered BenQ products this year but they have already made a positive impact on our lives. Recently I wrote about the BenQ WiT e-Reading Lamp which is pretty blooming fantastic!!! This time I’ve written a post to tell you all what we thought of the BenQ Piano Light or Piano eye care lamp.
Our living room isn’t the brightest of rooms even with all the lights on. It seems that much darker when the sun goes down and the corner where our piano is placed is a too dimly lit for my liking. Although my husband did put wall lights up in addition to the spotlights the light isn’t bright enough for when the girls are reading the music for their piano pieces. Both my girls play piano and have done for some time now. It’s wonderful listening to them both play. It can be quite relaxing as it is no longer a collection of noises as it used to be at the lower levels.
The BenQ Piano Light
Unlike standing lamps and lights for the piano this stylish, slimline light sits perfectly on top of the piano so doesn’t take up any floor space. It has a number of great features that put this piano light head and shoulders over its competitors. This is an LED light designed to provide enough light to light up the whole keyboard of a standard piano (88 keys) and also the music sheet evenly. It can reach 300lux on each side.

You can clearly see a marked difference in the light that the BenQ light provides in the evening! But is it as effective in the day?

So, as you can see the BenQ Piano Light can give a substantial amount of light for both day and evening use.
Weighted and Cushioned Base
Like the BenQ WiT e-Reading Light the BenQ Piano Light also has a weighted base. This means it will stay in the place you want it and isn’t going to be falling over. The base is made of rubber, making it non-slip so it won’t cause damage to the piano. Shame the same can’t be said about the kids with their pencils.
The base has a wide groove to allow for the hinge in the middle of the piano top. The design of the base and it’s positioning on the piano help minimise any sound resonance.
Light, Presence and Infrared Sensors
This smart light has built-in sensors. You can set the presence sensor to turn the light on as you approach. Otherwise, the infrared sensor will turn the light on as you sit down at the piano. The ambient light sensor will then adjust the light intensity of the lamp depending on the light already present in the room so you don’t need to.
The sensor also knows if you’ve walked off and forgotten to turn off the light and cleverly turns itself off. I only wish it could teach my children to turn off lights in rooms when they leave them empty.

Eye Care Hood
The lamp has an eye care hood included in the box. The use of this is optional but it is recommended for use when children and shorter individuals are using the light. We found it useful for my daughters so the light is directed at their piano books rather than into their eyes.
Intuitive Interface
This is nice and easy to use. The interface has a dual colour LED which lasts 50000 hours. All the different options are clearly set out so we have colour temperature, brightness, the power button, presence detection, my favourite and auto dimming.
Adjustable Colour Temperature
This is simple to adjust. Just press the blue arrow for bluer light or the yellow button for a more yellow light. This allows the user to set this to their preferences and requirements. There are 6 colour temperature settings to choose from.
What Did We Think of the Piano Light?
This light is a wonderfully, useful addition to our home. It brings much-needed light to the gloomy dark corner of our living room. It made a big difference to the amount of light reaching the children’s music books during the day and early evening making notes stand out far. This not only makes it easier to read the music but also reduces the chances of the children getting eye strain due to insufficient lighting.
The light is well designed, isn’t excessive in size, and has a simple yet functional design. The light can be adjusted for piano practice at different times of the day. The front panel is simple to use (it’s touch sensitive) and the children are able to make adjustments themselves when required.
The black matte aluminum alloy works well with the black of our piano. Rather than it standing out, they complement each other.
Instructions were clear with images allowing for quick and easy set up.
Any Negatives?
Not really. It’s brilliant and I must say some of my friends have piano lights and this one outshines them all!!! Pun intended. If I was to change anything I’d make the light turn off a little sooner after the user has moved away from the piano, but that’s a minor thing. A little training and the girls might remember to do it when they finish. I live in hope 😂

That’s so cool! I know that we would have loved this when we had our rental that had a grand piano in it! it was a super old piano but the kids loved learning how to play piano on it and this light would have been perfect.
What a practical and well thought out light. Love the fact that it doesn’t take up room and is adjustable with the color changes. I don’t have a piano and if I did, I’d love a BenQ piano light.

I love this, especially the colour temperature options. I went to University for Music Performance. During that time, I spent many, many hours in the practice rooms at the university, practicing my primary instrument as well as the piano. During that time, I have been exposed to a variety of different piano lights, but none of them had so many colour temperature options to work with your surroundings and personal preferences.
You’re right, your living room is pretty dark during the day, which wouldn’t be a problem if you’re just lounging or watching TV, but for someone who is trying to read piano notes (is that what they’re called? Haha), that would be difficult. The piano light definitely makes a difference, and it’s very focused on the exact point that you would want it to be, which is very helpful! What a great little gadget.
