We don’t always consider the possible detrimental effect that poor lighting, blue light, or glare from screens can have on our eyes. Our eyes are a part of us we often tend to neglect. How many times have you gone out when it’s sunny without sunglasses or straining your eyes watching too much tv or overusing a computer or even trying to read in a dimly lit room? Who’d have thought that buying specific lights could help you protect your eyes from damage!
Lighting in a home is important and sometimes the fitted lights just aren’t enough to allow for all of our needs. I’ve been looking for a light to use in my children’s room on their desk so that they can do their homework in peace. By some miraculous piece of luck, I recently found an email asking me to review the:
BenQ WiT e-Reading Lamp
This is no ordinary e-Reading lamp, this is the BenQ WiT e-Reading Lamp with almost as many features as my phone!!!! Okay, so it’s an old phone but I must say this is a truly fabulous light. Although it has been designed for e-reading, we’ve found a number of ways this lamp comes in useful around the home.
This multi functional desk light is perfect for use in an office, home office or even for general home use. I found it to be perfect for use in the children’s room on their desk where they do their homework. The lighting in that section of the room is insufficient and a light was desperately needed. The lamp has a number of handy features that means we get more than we knew we needed from a lamp. These include:
Wide Coverage
The lamp is not like your average lamp. It’s 90cm range, gives it a massive 150% move coverage than other similar products. The increased length of the light also allows for a more even light distribution as well as a wider reach rather than it being localised to one smaller area. In addition, it can reach the luminescence of 500 lux, lighting up a desk far more efficiently than an average lamp making it perfect for the kid’s homework books and computer use any time of day.
Great Design
With its sleek design, the lamp is perfect for any modern home. It looks stylish, and the top of the light comes in different colour options. The light is easy to adjust to the height and position required. The user can choose between cool white (for concentrating) and warm white light (for relaxing) and adjust the intensity with the control dial.
Turn the light on using the touch sensitive ring to activate the e-reading mode providing optimal lighting for screen reading. Hold the ring and a green light appears. This makes the light adjust to eye-care mode. The light will then set its own brightness level and colour brightness based on the ambient light for screen reading.
Quality Materials
It’s not always true when they say “you get what you pay for” but in this instance it really is. This really is the top of the range when it comes to lamps. Ben Q has been rapidly making a name for itself in terms of great quality products and with this, they surpass expectations. Lightweight aluminium alloy coats the back of the LED light to help keep it cooler and prolong its lifespan. This also means it’s more eco-friendly than other lamps and the LED will last longer. The LED lamp has a 50,000 hour lifespan.
I loved that the 6ft power cord is fabric covered rather than plastic. This travels all the way up to the top of the light. The colour is coordinated to be the same as the aluminium LED cover.
Ambient Light Sensors
These detect the light in the environment around the lamp. Using WiT (Wider, Intelligent, Tailor-Made) technology it allows for wide distribution of light. The patented ‘brighter at the sides, darker in the middle’ illumination is designed to provide light with less glare and reflection from the screen. This can help reduce eye strain and damage.
Flicker Free LED Driver
Flickering lights are not only annoying but also very distracting. They can also result in eye strain, blurred vision, headaches, fatigue and more health problems. The BenQ WiT e-Reading Lamp has a flicker free LED driver providing constant and even lighting.
Fantastic Flexibility
The BenQ WiT e-Reading Lamp is amazingly flexible. The ball-joint allows for the lamp cap to be highly flexible. The durable torque springs and friction control counter balance the weight of the lamp. They help hold it firmly in place. These also allow for the LED light to be adjusted to a wider range of angles. In fact, you can literally lift the sections and turn the lamp to light up a dark corner in a room. Pretty Impressive!
Safety
The LED light conforms to numerous relevant safety regulations to ensure that there is no eye damage resulting from use.
Set Up
It takes a meer matter of minutes to set this up. It all depends on how long it takes you to remove the items from the packaging and find a screwdriver. There are not many parts to put together. It mainly involves attaching the base to the adjustable arm. Next, attach the adaptor plug and the suitable attachment.
What Did We Think?
This is a good quality lamp that looks great, works well and is easy to use. Its obvious a lot of thought was put into the design of the light to make it user friendly and give it that bit extra that most lamps simply can’t compete with. The base is weighted preventing the light from falling over. It’s great that the light can be adjusted to different intensities and from warm to cool tones. I’ll be trying it out for some of my work photoshoots as it seems like it would be ideal. I was able to dim the light to suit requirements although I’m sure some might prefer if it would go lower.
I was excited to see they even have a piano light displayed on a Yamaha piano like ours. This might be something for me to consider purchasing in the future. The light we’ve tested was fantastic and one the kids and I would highly recommend. There’s also an extension available to convert it into a floor reading lamp!

Wow, this is a nice, I think I need to get this for my son. He is forever squinting at his screen in the dark. But this light looks like it would be a nice balance. Sometimes he feels the ligh in his room is too bright. Thank you for this!

This looks like a great option for those who are currently setting up a home office space for work or school from home. While we discuss the need for a comfortable chair or reliable internet, lighting is almost always overlooked!

This sounds like a really great lamp for a desk area it seems to offer a really difference in the light offered and it is amazing it is so adjustable.

I am looking to buy a lamp for my study desk but was a little apprehensive when it comes to lamps like these as I feel they aren’t sturdy. This looks like a great option…I am going to look for it!
There is no chance of this lamp being knocked over which is great. The base is weighted to avoid this issue.

Oh wow this sounds like a fantastic lamp and it looks super stylish too! I am currently working from a desk in the corner of our living room shadowed by the stairs so it can get a bit dark and gloomy this sounds perfect for me, as well as for my son when he is reading or doing homework on an evening etc! This is actually freaky, as I was JUST talking this morning about my need of a reading lamp! I get headaches when I read for too long (which is ALWAYS, because whenever I read a book, I just can’t put it down 😅) as there’s no good, close-up lighting at my house, so it’s about time I look into getting a reading lamp – so this is clearly a sign! 🙌
