Like many women and men I too have been plagued all my life by unwanted body hair but I have decided to make a stand. No more do I want to have to reach for a razor, epilator (ouch), or hair lightening creams, and forget waxing, I’m waaaay toooo pain sensitive to even try that cruel invention of torture again! My mission …… to be hair free (except where I want it) in a more ladylike and pain free way, by the Summer. My secret weapon a device that looks fantastic and I am really hoping that this will be the end of my unwanted hair for good. The product I am reviewing / trialling is the HoMedics Duo IPL HH100. This is the latest in home hair reduction systems (and clinically proven to prevent hair regrowth), combining dual technologies to give fast, safe and long lasting results and ultimately perfectly smooth skin!!! HoMedics have combined the benefits of both IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and AFT (Advanced Fluorescence Technology used in salons all worldwide) in a compact and easily portable device for use all over the body from the face and underarms to the bikini line and legs. Combined these show reduction in hair growth within the space of a few months. Gentle pulses of light are applied to the root of the hair resulting in hair natural shedding over time and hair growth being inhibited.
Here is my new baby:
How does it work? Well it’s actually very simple to use, in fact as simple as 1,2 3 (thankfully):
1. Once you have decided where you want to use the device simply pre-shave that area. This will help to ensure that the maximum amount of light energy is focused below the surface of the skin.
2. Select the correct energy level for your skin type and hair colour. Gently apply flashes of duo to the selected area.
3. You will find that over the next few days hair will naturally shed from the treated area and ……… future hair growth is inhibited!
Simply repeat the treatment as required.
The treatments can be tailored to the individual allowing for skin and hair colour and where it is to be used. When using the Duo you can choose between AFT FREEGLIDE (3 options) which simply glides like a shaver over the skin and is suitable for use on areas like the legs, or single shot IPL treatments (2 options) that provide complete control when using high power on stubborn regrowth areas such as the under arms and bikini. The duo gives the user the ability to fight against unwanted hair growth in their own home and ultimately results in long term results for silky smooth skin. The beauty of this product is that if you use up the cartridge (pre-loaded with 50,000 pulses) rather than throwing away the whole device you can simply buy another cartridge.
There is a separate cartridge that can be used on the more delicate skin of the face that also includes googles to help protect the eyes.
Prior to use a patch test will be required on pre-shaven skin. If you are doing a patch test with the AFT FREEGLIDE you will need to wait forty eight hours before you can start using the product on the tested area provided of course no reaction has occurred. If using the single shot however as this uses a higher energy level one will need to wait for two weeks unless you avoid using it over the actual area that was patch tested and then just forty eight hours will suffice.
The darker the hair and the lighter the skin the better the overall result. This works well for me as I am the perfect candidate to test this product. The device will also work on blond and red hair over a period of time although it is stated on the box that the duo is not suitable for blond, red or grey hair.
For the last 17 years laser and light energy has been well documented and no side effects for long term use have been reported. The HoMedics Duo has been approved by dermatologists and meet the European safety standards for a home use device.
Wish me luck guys and look out for the next post where I will be telling you all how I got on!

Oh wow, this looks amazing! I think it’s incredible how much technology has moved forward when it comes to hair removal. One of my friends gets lasered on a monthly basis because of PCOS and I find it fascinating. Good luck with this, looking forward to the updates!
I’m really looking forward to seeing the results 😉
If this works, it could be amazing! I hate the hassle of hair removal so will definately be keeping up to date with your blog to see how it goes!
Becca
I know how you feel Becca hair removal can be a pain, literally!
I have fine downy hair on the side of my face and have been concerned that if I remove it will it grow thicker this may just be the perfect answer to my problem. Thanks Mel xx
It looks very interesting and I’m looking forward to finding out how you get on x
Sounds better than the one I have as it burns too much for me so I’m a bit of a chicken to use it preferring now to use tweezers, so might have to give this a go instead.
This looks really good, Cheers mel
How much does this hair removal device cost ? X
It costs about £70 to buy and replaceable cartridges are about £40, but look around, I spent a couple of months looking into them and found one (after weeks of searching and bidding) for £30 on ebay, it was brand new but without the box x
This sounds tremendous. I have fought unwanted hair all my life!
I bet this costs a lot but it would be a good investment anyway for many of us. Could use it for the hairs on my chiny chin chin!!
This sounds great, thanks so much for posting. Think I’m going to do a bit of research into these and will definitely keep this one in mind! Great review 🙂
Thanks Laura, it’s a great little machine and so easy to use.
that looks interesting! I would love to try it as well!
xx

It’s so much better than expected. I have the follow up post going live shortly.
Hi Melanie, thanks for the description, I am waiting for your second review of the product. I hope it worked well for you. X
It seems to work well but if you stop for a long time the hair slowly begins to return.
Does it work???
All will be revealed soon!
Looking forward to your update as thinking about buying this x
It should be live soon. Keep your eyes peeled.
Just bought this device, only on my first treatment. Keen to see if you’ve seen results as I cannot find any other reviews on this device!
As long as you keep using it it does seem to help. It doesn’t have to be that regular but if you stop the hair will gradually return.
Up for the result dear
Hi Lorraine, there is a link to it at the bottom of the blog post.
do you find that it is as painful as going and getting laser done at a clinic? and is there as much risk of pigmentation? it looks amazing!
I couldn’t comment about what a clinic would do as I have no experience there.
Hi, I know it has been a while, but how are the results going?
Thanks
Hi Estel. If you keep it up the hairs seem to slowdown in the speed of growth but once you stop after a while they do slowly begin to return.
