Bored of your normal cuppa or Energy Bar?

I love to try a range of different types of teas at home and also when I go for afternoon tea as I enjoy experiencing and discovering interesting and tasty new flavours.

Kromland Farm Organic Earl Grey Rooibos

Available in Ocado, Planet Organic, Whole Foods and other independent retailers priced at £3.99 for 15 bags it is well worth a try.  Look out for the other flavours in the range that include: Organic Berry Rooibos, Organic Chai, Organic Vanilla Rooibos and Original Rooibos.

Rooibos (pronounced ‘roy-bush) originates from South Africa where it has been used for many years for its ability to soothe colic in babies and in adults as it is believed to help reduce fever, help in asthma and insomnia.

This specific tea also contains bergamot oil and cornflower all of which are certified organic and the recipe is one that was originally used by a Khoisan farmer (from the Khoisan region).

This tea has a floral aroma and it’s taste is light, smooth and quite thirst quenching.  I found it very easy to drink.  As it is caffeine free and has a low tannin content (tannins affect iron absorption) it is just the sort of drink I will be enjoying for the remainder of my pregnancy and beyond.

Higher Living Power

Trialled during my afternoon energy lull and was aptly named ‘Power’.  Consisting of a blend of Organic Yerba Mate, Organic Spearmint, Organic Cocoa Shells and Organic Ginkgo this has a good strong aroma predominantly of Spearmint indicating it is of high essential oil content so it is of a good quality and also fairly fresh.  I do hate it when you buy mint type teas and there is very little aroma as this indicates that the tea will be bland and may have been of poor quality to start with or may have sat in a warehouse for ages.  The Power tea also tastes good cold having a tendency of being easily distracted by various things going on around me I discovered this much to my enjoyment.

Higher Living teas come in little bags called teapee’s which are the perfect size and shape for maximum diffusion of the herbs within.  Through the mesh you can see the herb and smell the wonderful aroma of the tea that you will shortly be enjoying.  Higher Living produce a selection of teas that are full of flavour and very enticing such as Vanilla Chai, Flower Heaven, Apple and Ginger, Green Tea Coconut, Whole Chamomile to name but a few and cost £4.49 for a pack.

The teas are all of the highest Organic quality and are always GMO, gluten and dairy free and are also suitable for both vegans ad vegetarians.  To see the full range and look up any additional information pop over to the Higher Living Herb website or simply pop into your local Holland and Barretts.

Trek Protein Energy Bars

Trek Protein Energy Bars have had a makeover!  Full of flavour, 10g of protein per bar and one of your five a day these energy bars not only give you an initial blast of energy but also maintain this energy kick for a considerable amount of time.  These bars are 100% natural, gluten free and have no sugar or syrup added to them.

I tried two out of the four bars the Banana Blast and the Berry Burst.  Both were packed with flavour and I noticed that I felt fuller for longer so it reduced my cravings for snacks between meals.  These feature pictures of the British countryside and a Union Jack to reflect the brands British heritage.  Although as one would expect from a flapjack these are sweet yet they not overly sweet like some products that you can buy.

Also available in Cocoa Coconut, Cocoa Oat, Oat Raisin and Original Oat  flavours these can be purchased from trekbaruk.com now and in Supermarkets, Boots, Holland & Barretts from September.  RSP 99p.

I drink Redbush Rooibos tea at the moment, it’d be great to try it in a different flavour, it’s great for us as my partner’s an asthmatic and I’m an insomniac!
