Five Ways to Learn Online

(Collaborative) If you love to learn new things the internet is a treasure trove packed with just about everything. You’ll discover weird and wonderful trivia to more in depth information on complex subjects. But you’ve got to know where to look and how to separate information from misinformation. It’s important not to rely on Google alone for your knowledge fix. Otherwise, you’ll disappear down more rabbit holes than Bugs Bunny. Information overload is a thing. I should know having studied herbal medicine. There is so much to screen through to see what information you actually need. In order to save time and make the most of your research and study time, you’ll have to narrow down the best sources. Whether you’re flexing your mental muscles for fun, educational achievement or to switch jobs, you’ll love these five ways to learn online.Five Ways to Learn Online

Five Ways to Learn Online

Philosophical Email Newsletter

One of the most convenient ways to get your regular knowledge fix is by signing up for a philosophical email newsletter like Brain Pickings from Maria Popova. This particular newsletter features fantastic insights on life, the universe and everything from famous writers, creatives and historical figures and it helps you to find different angles on all sorts of challenges in life and work.

Emotional Intelligence Oracle

If you like Brain Pickings, another excellent online resource is The School of Life. This promotes emotional intelligence through lessons from history’s greatest thinkers in a wide variety of fields, but in the form of a curriculum. This can include psychotherapy and virtual/physical classrooms. As well as an excellent website, this institution has campuses all over the world and is popular for personal and professional development.

Mind-Expanding Podcast

Podcasts are the favourite way for many to pick up random knowledge nuggets. Some can also help us take a deeper dive into a subject we’re fascinated with. There are plenty of niche podcasts out there, but if you’re a generalist who loves feeding your brain while you perform other everyday tasks, the Stuff You Should Know podcast covers everything from chaos theory to true crime, and how Mars exploration works to Koko the talking gorilla.

Digital Radio

For the serious knowledge hound, radio is a more intimate and less distracting medium than TV. Through your phone, laptop, or tablet, you can access digital radio stations from around the world. There’s plenty to choose from. For a mix of entertainment and educational content, Radio 4 is hard to beat. On a typical day, it can cover everything from news and current affairs to classic radio plays, and the shipping forecast to in-depth science and nature features.

Online Degree

When you want to formalise your learning for ongoing academic or vocational purposes, or even just for the sense of achievement, taking a higher education degree online is still one of the best ways to do it. With an institution like ARU Distance Learning you can study everything from an online Project Management MSc to undergraduate psychology or digital marketing degree.  This can be done in a flexible way that fits around your commitments. You can find plenty of textbooks online to help you with your study.

What fab ideas, I hadn’t thought about signing up to email newsletters with academic content! I’m so used to getting email newsletters as junk, or advertising, that I clear them without even opening them. Podcasts I love though, I’m learning spanish atm with a combination of learning apps, subtitles on my fave shows, switching to Spanish audio when I’m feeling brave, podcasts and books. The online resources for it are phenomenal, I’ve even found dual language children’s stories to read to the kids
