Ways to Help Your Family Spend Time Together

(collaborative) It can be an incredibly difficult task to keep up with family when they are occupied and busy. Even when you’re not working, there are constant extracurricular activities that could whisk away any little time you may have had previously. For this reason, the act of bringing you all closer must be a conscious and deliberate one. It is necessary to think up thoughtful ways to bring the family closer as it can be easy to drift apart, consumed by our own little worlds. Here are some ways you can restore togetherness and try to keep your family more united.

Family Time

This is very important and helps improve the dynamic of the members and their relationships. Losing out on quality family time could be detrimental to the relationship you intend to nurture with each family member. Look at activities that all enjoy and arrange activities around those. Suppose you are embarking on a family trip, your time, money, and energy should be focused on activities that institute trust, love, and togetherness and of course are fun.  Alternatively, bake together, or watch a family friendly movie.  It doesn’t need to be anything complicated, spending time together is the most important focus.

Be Present

If you are a family person, it makes sense to actually spend time with your family. It’s hard to connect with a family member if you don’t spend time with them and have the opportunity to grow a relationship. Commit time to spending precious moments with the family while you can in-person. If that is not possible, employ digital or virtual means to make that happen. The goal is to make your presence felt in a positive way among all members of the unit. Most of the time, family members with a busy career forget the essence of making themselves available. However, making time is often very much appreciated and allows you to grow your relationship.

Pick an Activity to do with Each of Your Kids

Children may be young but they quickly develop their own personalities and tastes.  They may not all enjoy doing the same things, especially where there is a large age gap.  Where time is limited you may choose to spend time together doing an activity as a family.  Where you can, it is equally important to do individual activities based on their own personal preferences.  This way you can spend some time individually and allow your relationship to develop. In many cases, children tend to open up to an adult who spends time with them one-on-one. This sort of thing can also be great to get gift ideas for birthdays and Christmas. I do it all the time.  You may discover one of your children is a lover of nature so can look at eco-friendly christmas gifts or enjoys baking so consider home baking subscriptions next time you are buying a gift.

Teamwork

Your family needs teamwork to thrive.  Working together towards a shared purpose promotes respect, likeability, and trust. How can you ensure this? Do chores such as decluttering or yard work together; otherwise, delegate tasks per each family member’s strengths. You can even make meals together but be mindful of very young children’s presence in the kitchen. Fortunately for you, this will be a great time to give compliments, feedback, and express appreciation for their input and maybe even give them some nice treats too.

You know your family best and will know what will best entice each member to get more involved in activities.

What family activity do you enjoy most?

I think spending time with each child individually is just as important as spending time all together as a family. The subscription boxes are a really great idea.

LOL that photo is so cute and funny. It’s really important for families to spend time together and it seems as though it’s getting harder for people to find time to spend time. I think it’s a good idea to find an activity to do together best way to be active and everyone have fun x

Lovely post. We have been trying to make time to spend time together whether that’s building with some construction toys, watching a movie or something else. We love it.

My son is a little older now but when he was younger, I used to love cooking and baking with him or playing with his toys with him. Now I love to watch movies or play board games with him.

Things adapt as we get older but it’s still great you do things together.

This is a great post to remind families especially now that everyone works at home to still spend time together as a family doing things. We enjoy our saturday tv movie night and playing boardgames on a sunday.

Great post, it is so easy to just do your own thing, but family time is important for everyone and making time to do it does not really take a lot of effort

Honestly, those that don’t put the time in are really missing out on so much.

I really want to have days with each of the children, but it is so tricky to do with our busy schedule. I did enjoy a coffee date with my daughter today though which was nice

I totally agree that family time is important, especially in the present times where we are all at home but not really spending quality time doing things together as a family. I love cooking and crafting with girls.

Being present is top of the list. My dad was away a lot for work which was a shame.
