Practise makes perfect and as this is now the third time I shall be preparing a hospital bag and I have more of an idea of what I need and would like to have in there!
The following is a list of items that you will need when you go into hospital to have your baby and assumes you will be there for a few days:
Your birth plan and any notes – obvious but if it’s not in the bag you may forget!
Cash / coins for the car park / hospital shop
In my experience maternity wards are very warm sohave a few items you can layer so you are covered either way.
Going home clothes.
Hair bands & a brush.
Something comfortable and loose to wear during labour.
A towel, I am taking my sports and travel towel as it is brilliant and also saves me loads of space.
Toiletries – body wash, shampoo, conditioner, sponge, Bio oil / moisturiser, make up, deodorant.
Drinks to help keep your energy levels up.
Snacks, I like to have some handy for me and hubby as you never know how long you will be in the hospital for.
Toothbrush and toothpaste.
Chewing gum.
Slippers, I normally buy a cheap pair and then throw them away as I leave the hospital.
A nightie or pyjamas, must be loose.
Knickers, you will need a few pairs.
Dressing gown.
Ear plugs and an eye mask in case you want to sleep when the rest of the mums are awake and chatting or babies are crying!
Nursing / breast feeding bra and breast pads.
Maternity towels.
Mobile phone & charger.
Other optional items that some people like to take:
Tens machine.
A water spray to use during labour.
Books / magazines.
ipod / ipad / kindle
camera / camcorder
