Causes of Stress and How to Reduce Them

It’s amazing how much in our daily lives can stress us.  Although modern living is more convenient than it used to be we are all under far more pressure than ever before.  This post looks at Causes of Stress and How to Reduce Them.  It will help you identify the main areas of stress that can affect us so we can all work to reduce them.

Causes of Stress and How to Reduce Them

Your Health

With my daughters both being ill last year the stress seriously impacted mine and my husband’s stress levels.  I also had a cancer scare which really put things into perspective. As if that wasn’t enough, I’m sure the husband is either going deaf or has hearing issues although I’m also considering selective hearing.  My suspicion is that the earbuds he uses which are not only an environmental pollutant but also not the best for ear wax removal, have been pushing down the ear wax rather than removing it. Ear wax removal at home doesn’t seem to be working particularly well for him and I feel that using a company that specialises in this might be a better option for him and many others like him.

Health anxiety is extremely damaging.  I tend to tackle the causes head-on and find increasing healthy eating, exercise and tackling the causes of stress are of great benefit.  Don’t forget Google isn’t always helpful.  If you suspect a problem book in to see your doctor, don’t ask Google!

Sleep

Getting enough sleep is very important.  Lack of sleep impacts our mental health and well-being.  We feel better when we’ve had a good night’s sleep.  Our sleep can be influenced by the amount of stress we are under so it’s a catch 22 situation.  Sometimes a simple change like a great mattress can have a big impact on the amount of sleep we get.

At Work

It’s not surprising people often feel stressed at work.  With hours and workloads having increased much more than ever as well as the need to be accessible, the stress from our professional lives can have a knock-on effect on our home lives.  Sometimes we need to look at changing work to something that provides a better work-life balance.  You really don’t want to work in a place where you are not valued.  Job agencies such as Adecco can help find you a more fulfilling role, with any luck with a higher wage.

Money Worries

Always one of the top causes of stress, especially with the cost of living continuously increasing.  Many are kept up at night trying to work out how they will make ends meet, feed their families and keep the roof over their heads.  It’s not always easy to find a better paying job but there are ways to help relieve the burden of financial worries.  Talking with experts to develop a debt management plan can really help.  They can make your monthly payments more manageable and in turn lower the stress of having to pay off amounts you just can’t cope with.

Physical Appearance

I’m sad to say that we live in such an image-conscious society that how we feel about our physical appearance can really influence our stress levels.  Nobody is perfect and it’s been highlighted that many Instagram influencers are using airbrushing and apps to enhance their appearance.  We need to adjust our mindset to think differently.  Instead of worrying about things we can’t fix,  take a positive stance and focus on the things that you can control.  I, for example, don’t have the perfect figure, but, I have the most gorgeous hair that people always comment on once it’s been washed and styled.  Honestly, positive comments can really give you a wonderful boost.  Why not try giving positive comments to at least 3 people you see each day, many will respond with a lovely comment too and everyone is happy.

Relationship Problems

Relationships are hard, and there’s no getting around that.  There will be ups and downs, but, it’s how you address them that is important.  Relationships can be stressful when you pile on other stresses.  Talking is key to solving issues in a relationship so don’t bottle up problems.

Moving Home and Life Changes

Studies have shown that moving home can be as stressful as a divorce.   Fortunately, the stress of moving is something that you can control.  Don’t leave everything until the last minute.  Be organised and well prepared.  You’ll then find it far more manageable than those that leave it all to the last minute.  Consider using professional movers.  They can make things run so much smoother and reduce stress levels dramatically.

Trying to Do Everything

I will confess to being guilty of this myself.  As well as work, keeping on top of the housework, looking after the children and maintaining my relationship, I put to much stress and pressure on myself to do everything.  It’s rare I ask for help as I don’t like to “put people out” I know, daft right!  I also have a tendency to offer to help others often which further adds to the pressure and stress of my daily routine.  The list never seems to end.  I knock off two things another 10 take their place.  I need to stop worrying about trying to do everything at 200%, slow down on offering to help everyone and their milkman? and as a result will feel far less stressed.

I can sympathise. It’s hard when you are struggling financially. It can help so much when you are able to manage your money efficiently.

I try to make more time for myself in order to lower my stress levels. However, when it’s something like life and financial issues, it’s much harder for stress to go away. I agree that asking for help does not make you a failure.

We all need to talk more about what stresses us. Doing this alone it can help towards making us feel better.

This quite helpful. I have found that illness and the pain associated with it is quite a source of stress. There is also added stress from trying to run normal family life while in pain. At the end of the day one just has to do what you can.

Illness can be a big stress factor for many. I’m sorry you have to live with daily pain, that must make everything so much harder.
