Ways to Boost Your Confidence

Collaborative post. How confident are you? Have you ever been a confident person? Having had a strict upbringing and being bullied at schools I found I lost my confidence as a child. It took me many years in my late teens and upwards to slowly boost this again. It wasn’t easy and was a slow process but I am so much more confident now than I used to be. I swore I’d try to make sure the same didn’t happen with my children, but what can you do as an adult? Here we look at a few ways to boost your confidence.

Ways to Boost Your Confidence

Be Happy With How You Look

The way you look, or at least the way you think you look can greatly influence the way you feel about yourself and as a result your confidence levels. Where you can aim to wear clothes that make you feel good about yourself. Opt for clothes that make you feel confident and you are happy to wear. Don’t dress for others it won’t make you feel any better unless it’s clothes you like wearing.

What you wear can affect your confidence and this can also be carried over to make up too. Some women and men won’t leave the house without makeup as it increases their confidence when they wear it. It would be amazing if we all felt confident in the skin we are in but our flaws do sometimes knock our confidence. Makeup can help us hide these to a degree and influence how we feed.

The Way You Carry Yourself

The way you carry yourself shows others how confident you are. Someone who lacks confidence tends to be slouched, they tend to look down and avoid making eye contact. Presenting yourself in this way doesn’t do you any favours. Instead, try walking tall, making eye contact, smiling. By presenting yourself in this way it can actually have a positive impact. Smiles will be returned, this, combined with your confident demeanor will result in you feeling better about yourself. Try it and see, it really works!!!

Being More Assertive & Saying No

Work on being more assertive. You can teach yourself to be more assertive over time. Listen to and respect other people’s opinions but understand you have the right to have your own ideas. You don’t need to agree if you don’t. It helps to try to keep your emotions under control as sometimes these can get the better of us.

Saying no is very important when it is done correctly. True friends will respect your opinions and not expect you to simply adopt theirs. Don’t feel obliged to do things you don’t want to. If something makes you uncomfortable then it’s clearly not for you.

Be Kind To Yourself

Many of us are guilty of not being as kind as maybe we can be to ourselves. We can often be our own worst critic whether it is the way we look, our size, our abilities compared to others. We need to stop comparing ourselves and start accepting ourselves for who we are. Once we start to do this we will automatically feel far more confident and also much happier.

I hope you’ve found my post useful and find my tips on Ways to Boost Your Confidence helpful. These are just a few of the things you can try. Begin small, you can’t expect to boost your confidence overnight, it takes time and persistence.

We all do it. Some more than others. It’s up to us to sort things out and fix any issues we have, no one else will do it for us. Baby steps, small things at a time and build. You’ll get there x

I was extremely shy as a teenager (being bullied a major contributor). But after leaving school I did various personal development courses which helped to gain my confidence. I have learned how to be assertive as well as how to feel comfortable in my own body. Thanks for sharing these great tips.

I agree that saying no to people or things you don’t want to do will increase your confidence. When you stop being a people pleaser, it’s great for your confidence!

Well said. Be happy with the way you look! Many people are constantly trying to look like others and they forget who they are. One’s self-esteem will remain low if they don’t believe that they were born enough.

The way you present yourself can affect how others treat you and the knock-off effect is that affects you you feel. Look confident even if you don’t feel it, the result is you will in time feel more confident x

some really great tips here. One that has really helped me is learning to say no.

It is important to do that. People take advantage otherwise.

These are great tips! For me, self love and exercise has been paramount to building my self confidence. Another one, I learned about several years ago was to get rid of toxic people. That boosted my confidence in a way I didn’t know it would. Getting rid of the excess noise and negative feedback ensured that I brought the focus back on what mattered most.

These are great tips about confidence. I think being kind to ourselves is the most important thing. I agree with you that something we are our own most critic and that simply crushes our confidence.

Honestly, once we stop worrying about everyone else’s opinions and relax a bit when it comes to our own shortfalls we become much happier.

I think being kind to yourself is the biggest part of building your confidence. I used to train a lot to walk properly as if I am a queen or something (I always believed and image training so). and it worked. Giving a fine impression is a big part of my work success, confidence brought me a lot of contracts (and thus money I needed)

It really is. We need to be kind to everyone and not forget being kind to ourselves is important too.

I always make time in my morning to do hair and make up. My little one is used to mummy time. I feel more together and ready for the day that way.

These tend to be things we do in further education. You may find they are things you need to do at work too depending on the job.

Being confident in life is so important. I’ve learned in the past few years that you don’t have to be the best at something as long as you are confident. It’s amazing how much you can achieve through confidence.

    1. admin

It really is Joanna. It doesn’t happen over night necessarily but if we keep pushing it grows.

  22. Rebecca Smith

Confidence has such a big impact on mental health as well. I really struggle to be confident and most days I just don’t have the motivation to dress nice or wear make up. It’s like a vicious cycle.

  26. Carly Belsey

Great advice. I try to teach my daughter especially to be confident but I am super unconfident although I dont always show it but sometimes she picks it up from me anyhow which I dont like. I want to raise confident children!

It is hard when you lack confidence yourself. I know where you are coming from my confidence levels have grown over time as I have nurtured it.

  27. Rebecca Walker

I think being able to say no is so important, I’m too much of a pleaser

I’ve always had confidence issues but found the older you get the less it matters to you and you find yourself wishing you hadn’t wasted so much time worrying
