Located in Southern part of the island in the heart of Playa del Ingles, Sandy Beach Hotel is literally a few minutes from the 200 meter beach and the town centre. Ideal for a family holiday this hotel has a 4 star rating which was just one of the factors on my checklist when selecting the hotel. Something else that made an impact on my choice was the number of repeat visits by other holidaymakers indicating it must be of a good standard in service and accommodation.
Sandy Beach Gran Canaria
There were quite a few tourist shops nearby selling all sorts of items including some lovely sandals along the walkway which was next to the beach. It was great to take a stroll along here in the day and evening after a meal.
The dining area had an outdoor and indoor section and they also separated smokers and non-smokers which I will be honest – I really did appreciate although we did have to pass them to get to the food which was a shame.
We opted for the all-inclusive option as it can be much easier when you are traveling with children. The buffet served a good range of dishes and they had a different theme each night. Meat, salads, fruit, dessert were all served in different sections. On some of the food stations you could choose your own, meat or fish option and have it cooked with your choice of accompaniment. In the morning you could select items to add to an omelette should you so wish. The food was on the whole quite good and I found myself being drawn to all the fresh fruit and vegetables and salads whist there. It’s always easier to eat healthily when someone has done all the prep work for you. There was also a good selection of drinks available with and without alcohol.
Accommodation
The accommodation was roomy enough, we had a family room of which there are 14. I suggest if you need one and you want to go to this hotel book early to avoid disappointment. When we arrived they had forgotten to add in the extra beds for the children although this was rectified quickly. We had expected proper beds but ended up with fold out beds. The bathroom is spacious and had a bath and shower. For those that might need them it’s important to note there are rooms available with access for disabled guests should you need them.
Kids Club
The kids made the most of the kids club in the morning and afternoon once we had settled in. They loved doing all the different activities such as decorating their own T-Shirt, sand art, jewellery making and more. There was also a children’s outdoor play area next to the kids club room which the children enjoyed using. We also tracked down another area where they had air hockey, table football and table tennis.
There is a heated swimming pool and a children’s pool. My girls love swimming so we would spend quite a bit of the day by the pool. A quick warning though. This hotel is frequented by many Germans and we all know how they can be when it comes to the sunbeds. I got myself into a routine after discovering this of going downstairs just before the sunbed area was opened so I would be ready to grab sunbeds for the family. Staff would remove any towels from beds that were reserved before this time which was good and if anyone took up beds and didn’t use them all day the staff were aware and would speak with them. Not an issue for us but I did think it was great they policed it so people didn’t reserve beds they were not using.
Evening Entertainment
Evening entertainment was varied. We watched singers and dancers performing. The children seemed to enjoy watching the shows and there would be a small group of kids gather each evening and sit to watch. The parents stayed mainly for their children’s sake. In between shows the little ones would get up and dance or play on the dance floor. The lady pictured below was a regular singer there and was very popular with the children.
Staff
Staff were all extremely helpful and quick to help. I loved that there were numerous members of staff on hand and people working to make sure the place was kept spotless at all times.
I would strongly recommend this hotel and I would also consider returning there another year.
Where will you be holidaying this year?
