(Collaborative post) The UK holiday industry is booming. With uncertainty over foreign travel, many people are choosing to stay in the UK. There are so many advantages to holidaying in your own country. Although some areas and holiday parks have a reputation for being expensive, that’s not true countrywide. There are many hotels, B&B’s, etc that are very reasonably priced and where you could have the most amazing stay. In fact, you might like it so much you decide to move there. Here we look at Holidaying in Devon Versus Cornwall and why both are great choices for a UK holiday.
Holidaying in Devon Versus Cornwall
Devon
Devon is somewhere I would love to visit when I get the opportunity. There are plenty of places to stay and activities to keep you busy. Here are just a few that sound great.
You could visit Bicton Park Botanical Gardens with its 60 acres of stunning gardens to enjoy.
There is an amazing theme park there, The Milky Way Adventure Park. It’s perfect for the whole family and has won a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award EVERY year for the last five years running!!!
Stuart Line Cruises is a family-run passenger boat company that has been voted “Best Small Attraction in Devon”. They have a range of different cruises available throughout the year. They are all-weather, family-friendly and dog-friendly so there is nothing to hold you back.
Tamar Trails has a number of woodland trails where you can take the family to explore by foot or by bike. Bikes are available to hire so you don’t need to worry about bringing your own. There is a coffee shop for drinks and snacks. There you can also go on canoe trips and Tree Surfer activities for ages 6+ where the whole family can cross rope bridges, zip lines and even swing through the trees.
Woodlands Family Theme Park is another great place to visit for those with little ones. This is Devon’s largest Theme Park packed with great rides, animals, and their brand new interactive dinosaur.
Cornwall
Cornwall is also a lovely place to visit and has some great places you can see and things to do.
Top of my list would be AK Wildlife Cruises. Their double award-winning wildlife and sightseeing cruises will take you to go see the local wildlife. Throughout the year you can see a bottlenose dolphin pod. They have eight species of whale and dolphin that come to visit, basking sharks, jellyfish and even leatherback turtles.
Who doesn’t like a little adventure golf! If this sounds like your kind of fun then Woodland Adventure Golf would be an ideal place to visit. This 18 hole adventure mini golf course is a great family activity and once you’re finished why not visit the cafe to refuel.
Adventurous adults can take part in rock climbing and abseiling with different options and local locations to choose from. Some places accept children too from ages 6+.
Coasteering is popular in Cornwall with various companies offering this adrenaline fueled activity. Not for me though, I’d rather enjoy an afternoon tea than climbing cliffs, jumping off them into the sea etc.
Go on an underground adventure. You could join Cornwall Underground and explore a real mine. Chose from a basic to a full-on caving-style adventure.

Advantages of Both Locations
Devon and Cornwall both have some wonderful Blue Flag beaches, perfect for a beach holiday during the warmer months. The great thing is that they also have plenty of places you can visit with your dog if you have one. The UK is a nation of dog lovers and there are so many pet-friendly hotels and holiday rentals to choose from. So you can enjoy a true family vacation with your beloved pets and save the cost of having to put them in kennels or with a pet sitter.
Depending on what you do a holiday to Devon or Cornwall can cost less than travelling abroad. It can also be just as much fun as both locations have some great places to visit.
Less to arrange – no need to get vaccinations, passports, medical insurance, or visas. It’s much less hassle.

It’s important for us all to try to support the UK economy. As with many countries, the UK is still recovering economically from the traumas of the last year and a half. Every trip you take here puts money back into the local economy for that area. This is a great way to support the UK tourist industry.

There are so many places I would love to visit across the pond. Being half British I would love to see all there is to see in England.

I honestly love both but for me it’s about convenience – Cornwall is just such a long drive with all the traffic whereas Devon is much doable on the car. Having said that we flew down to Cornwall once which was fantatsic.
This post title made me laugh we have a friend who is from Cornwall and I have only been to Devon, she loves a cream tea but hates clotted cream, it is often cause for a fun debate when we see her

They are very popular places. Many will have holiday homes at one of teh two if they can’t live there all year for whatever reason.
I have never been to either of these ,‘I have always wanted to go to Devon, it looks absolutely beautiful but I’d take either 🙂

It’s a fair few hours to get there for me too. A short stay would be a great option though.
I love both counties, but have probably visited more of Cornwall than Devon. Still plenty more to explore
