(Collaborative post) Caravans are been really popular over the last year or so. With all the changes and restrictions they’ve been a more desirable option for UK getaways.ย They give us that extra freedom to go on family adventures without having to worry about booking rooms large enough for our family of 5 at an extortionate rate during peak season. Let’s face it, in most cases, we’d need to book 2 rooms as many don’t cater for that size of family. We’d much rather spend the money on fun days out, visiting fun places, having amazing adventures, meals out, a sweet shop haul, or a visit to an ice cream parlour, etc.

A Family Adventure in Holkham
Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham Beach
I’ve never had the chance to take my children to a sandy beach in the UK yet. Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham beach in Norfolk is definitely at the top of our list. The long beaches which join together with their golden sand are lined with those pretty iconic colourful beach huts. Holkham beach was recently voted โBest Beach in the UKโ by travel writers. It sounds perfect for us to go and build sandcastles, bury the kids or their dad and generally relax and escape our normally hectic lives. There’s a wide range of wildlife and we might even get to see seals snoozing on sandbanks and spot a wide range of birds. Perfect for us as we all love animals. The beach is situated in an area of natural beauty and is backed by sand dunes and pine woods.
Explore the Pinewoods
These stretch for 3 miles between Wells-next-the-Sea and Holkham and make up part of the nature reserve. Visitors will discover 3 different types of pine and a range of different plant, bird, and animal life. In Autumn the woods are full of migrant birds singing and feasting on the vast range of insects. My son and daughters would love to look for all manner of winged insects and anything else they can find.
Blakeney Point Nature Reserve
Located at this nature reserve is the UK’s largest seal colony. Here there are both grey and common seals any time of year. To get to see seal pups it’s best to aim to visit between June and August. This is definitely something the kids would love. They would love to watch these cute creatures going about their daily lives. Visitors can’t see the seals from Blakeney Point but can book one of the ferry trips that will allow them to get close to these fun creatures.
Holkham Hall Woodland Play Area
This is open daily and is ideal to tire out the little ones. The play area is located on the grounds of Holkham Hall. It’s free to use and there is a small parking fee. The play area sounds fantastic with treehouses, bridges, walkways, zip wires. Adults I’m afraid you can’t join in the fun, this is for ages 5-12. There is also a toddler area with a sandpit. This is located next to a Woodland cafe so refreshments are at hand.
Holkham Rope Courses
For the more adventurous the Holkham rope courses are ideal. Venture through the treetops over wobbly crossings, swinging bridges, and zip wires for an hour packed with fun. It’s suitable for ages 6+ meaning all of my children can get involved.
Summary
Holkham is ideal for exploring in adventure caravans with the family. Holidaying this way makes everything far more relaxed and works around your family’s requirements. There are all sorts of great places to visit in the UK and you can tailor your trip to cover all family members but I have to say our favourite is the beach. If we simply stayed in Holkham for a week or more the kids would be over the moon.

We have seen so many caravans and motor homes parked up recently on driveways close to home. They are a great choice especially recently with foreign travel so up in the air
They are really popular. I have seen loads near me too.
I really want to get a caravan. It must be so easy to have where you sleep with you, no booking into a hotel
Tell me about it, and no worrying about if they cleaned the sheets properly.
I remember going on caravan holidays when I was little and had great fun. I know a few people who love their caravan holidays and it gives you so much freedom as well
It’s a great way to explore and see places you might not get to otherwise.
I used to go on caravan holidays all the time when I was younger with my family and they were loads of fun, but I’ve not been on one in years x
Sounds like it might be time to go again!
Now this is my cup of tea . I love caravans and really think you canโt beat a family caravan adventure
It’s nice to be able to tailor your holiday around the family and do things as and when you want. These sorts of holidays give you more freedom.
Ooh! I’d love to see a seal colony. So fun! And taking a campervan trip sounds like such a great time. Love it!
We have been considering getting a caravan and the adventure caravan looks large enough for a family of four. I need to check out their online tours to see more of it
There are caravans suitable for families of four and bigger if needed which is great.
I love the idea of this kind of caravan but with three very big teenagers I think we’d all get on top of each other too much, I’ll save the idea for when it is just my hubby and I. Mch x
Holkham sounds lovely! That caravan looks wonderful. We have been thinking about getting a caravan for holidays recently.
They are really popular and perfect for family trips all around the country.
I loved staying in a caravan when I was a kid. But I have never stayed in one with my own kids.
I’m sure they would enjoy staying in a caravan too.
This would be an adventure. My family likes personal space, so I’m not sure if a caravan would ever work for us.
The good thing is you’ll only use it to sleep and possibly eat. The rest of the time you’ll be out and about exploring.
This is something that I’m open to, I’ve never considered it though.
I’m sure you would have a wonderful time.
This is an adventure that I want for my family. I guess we’ll be out most of the time so a caravan will just have our basic personal necessities.
That’s all you need. You want to get outdoors and explore the world around you.
I have never tried it but I will definitely love to explore it with my family. Itโs really going to be fun
It can be a pretty amazing way to go on family adventures.
I honestly believe that caravans will be the next big thing with people making long trips across Europe using caravans instead of the typical flights + hotel scenario.
They sure will be. Demand seems to have been growing for them considerably from what I’ve heard.
I haven’t experienced being in a caravan. But it seems so nice.
They have everything you need and most people use them simply to travel and sleep. The rest of the time they are out enjoying their surroundings.
Ooo how fab are the adventure caravans! It looks like a lovely vehicle/accommodation and the perfect way to have fun visit the beach etc x
I know!!! I really want to spend a few days at the beach with the warm weather we are now having.
My husband will be happy to have a family vacation like this. He tries to convince me to give it a try! I am glad to find so many info in your post!
I’m sure you’d have a great time Catalina.
We’ve never tried going on a caravan adventure before. I’d like to give it a try someday though. It would be fun, for sure.
It can be a fun way to explore and have fun with the family.

It is a good way to see a wide range of places and good fun.
Caravan sounds like a lot of fun and adventure and would definitely want to try it out given a chance. Thanks for sharing.
We all need a break and this is a cost effective and fun way to have one.

Wow, that Pegasus Grande SE Turin looks great ๐I would love to go on a caravan adventure with my family! We’ll have loads of fun for sure ๐
It sure does, doesn’t it. it has everything you could need to make the trip easy and comfortable.
I have a large family – but they are older too so getting one hotel room just doesn’t work with 3 teens and 2 parents. I have always wanted to do a caravan trip around my area. Thanks to you I can confirm I will make sure it’s done in 2022
It can be a fun way to have a family adventure. Have an amazing time Yemi!
Wow! What a great adventure. Would love to take an adventure caravan in the future. We’re actually saving to buy one. Thank you for sharing your wonderful trip. We’re excited!
That’s great to hear. I bet you can’t wait. Enjoy having family adventures!!!
Caravan is a dream come true for my husband while for me it is a a terrible thought. It is great for a family that loves travelling. Someone as lazy as I am, I would prefer sitting at me at one corner with iPad
They are great as you can organise a range of activities in the day. If there are any you don’t want to do let the others go and stay and use your ipad.
I had my first caravan trip this year and we did 4 more. it is so much fun and it is very comfortable to travel
Oh wow, you really made the most of it. I bet you had the most amazing time!!
