When To Call in A Professional

When To Call in A Professional

We all want to be independent. Being able to live independently and do your own DIY and other bits and bobs around the home etc is great. But sometimes, we need to know when to call in a professional. None of us can do everything, I know I certainly can’t. Although my husband can do some of the things I can’t and vice versa there are times when we need a little help. It may be that you need someone that is more skilled, qualified, or simply to save you time where it is limited.

When To Call in A Professional

Here are a few areas where it can be best to consider calling in a professional:

Assistance with Legal Issues

There are various areas that concern legal ins and outs that we are not all going to be in a position to sort things out for ourselves. For example, you may be buying a new home, getting a divorce, or seeking compensation for medical negligence. The latter was one I should have considered harder when injured by a careless nurse during one of my pregnancies. In these circumstances, I would have needed to seek the assistance of professionals. Although too late for me now in cases of medical negligence I’ve been advised by a friend to seek help from experts like OH Parsons.

Help With Accounts

We’re not all amazing when it comes to our accounts. I do try to keep on top of mine but when it comes to filling in tax forms, honestly, I’m stumped. The wording can be contractionary and to be honest the last thing I want to do is mess it up and get a fine. I use an accountant.  He helps me save money and makes sure all the forms are completed correctly and no mistakes are made. Mine comes to my home and we work through the computerised forms together. Alternatively, you can give your accountant all the details and they’ll make sure everything is filled in correctly and on time.

Maths Tutors

I use a maths tutor. It’s a great help as she is up-to-date with the curriculum. This means she knows exactly what the kids will need to know each year. She comes when we have exams to prepare for or when the kids need help with anything mathematical. Not only does it help save me time, but it also means I don’t have to worry about whether I can help my children with their studies. As they get older the maths gets more complicated, so I’d rather leave it in competent hands.

Exercise Support

Whether you need any assistance will of course depend entirely on the type of exercise you want to do. Want to do a form of exercise you’re not used to doing? With either weight training or yoga for example you’ll benefit from using a trained professional. Firstly, they can help you work towards exercise goals and also make sure you are doing the exercise correctly. Make sure the individual is qualified to ensure you’re in good hands.

When To Call in A Professional

DIY

My husband is great with DIY he has done quite a bit over the years in our homes. But when it comes to the more specialist projects it can be worth getting in a professional. This way you ensure that something like installing wooden flooring is done correctly. Where it isn’t you’ll find it costs you more in the long run as you’ll need a professional to fix it. Although there are plenty of DIY projects we are able to do it can really be worth getting someone that knows what they are doing where practical.

Gardener

An experienced gardener might be someone you’ll need to employ if your garden is looking worse for wear. Often overlooked, our gardens can be safe havens, somewhere we go to relax. It makes sense to have it looking as fabulous as you can. A gardener can really help you with this. They’ll know how to keep grass looking green and healthy, where and when plants should be added, pruned, etc.

There are various professionals we might consider employing at some stage. It depends on both our needs, ability, and time restraints.

Do you use professionals for any particular service? When considering when to use a professional, which of these do you think you might need the most?

I usually call a professional for most of these. I reach for the phone fast whenever my husband says, “I can fix that! No problem!” Ugh. Famous last – and expensive – words.

  2. Amber Myers

Oh yes, I usually call a professional for most things in the house. I always worry I’ll make it worse! Also with math. I am terrible with math!

  3. Christine

Agreed! I do a lot of things myself, but it’s best to call a professional. Not only is it done by an expert, but it saves you the time in doing it at all. I think it’s smart to invest money into a professional.

I would love to have someone do all the planting for my garden. That is the part that drives me crazy.

Between my husband, his dad, and myself, we are all pretty good with things around the house. But one thing none of us know is plumbing so when we did a full bathroom remodel we called in a pro for that. I also have a cousin who just finished law school and will be a civil lawyer so she’s going to help with our wills and things like that since I don’t know anything about it.

I think there are some times when we do need professionals. It’s nice to do things on your own, but sometimes you just have to call in help from someone else.

When my kids were young, I always hired math tutors to help them. They are very helpful and my kids say they’ve been learning a lot more compared to studying alone 🙂

This is a great post! I really should consider using an accountant, it would make my life a lot easier.

I’m a strong believer of just doing a lot of things yourself, however, it really is so important to know your limits and when something is going beyond just challenging yourself. The worst thing we could do is turn something into a problem or an even bigger problem when we let pride or stubbornness get in the way of ourselves!

We all need mentors in our lives. And this is when the experts come into play. I’ve always had a professional trainer in my exercises and it makes things easier.

And fixing all the house issues for me lol I wish I was handy but I am not. I prefer to call in a professional to do it right.

  14. Marysa

These are definitely good times to call in a professional. It isn’t worth all the hassle if you don’t know what you are doing!

  15. Rhian Westbury

We use professional cleaners as we just don’t like doing it ourselves and would rather pay someone else. I would love to get a personal trainer at some point but it’s not an expense I can justify at the moment x

  16. Diana S

I always so if you aren’t sure what you’re doing, it’s best to call a professional!

Mr. G has always been the best handyman for anything that needs to be done around the house. But he always knows his limits and recently he has finally started saying to let the professionals take over. I can’t imagine how much money he has saved us over the years.

It can save you a fortune doing things yourself but there are things that sometimes need a specialist to make sure the job is done to the best standards.

  18. Risa Lopez

I totally agree. It’s really important to seek a professional for the services you needed.

It can cut the stress no end.

  19. Tammy

There are definitely some exceptions where you hiring out can help you save in the long term or is just a good investment in your future or child’s future when it comes to education. Great and insightful post!

  20. Ntensibe Edgar

Yes, I do all the time. I make use of their services when I know that I won’t get the job done perfectly.

  21. Pooja

Great list of when to call professionals. I usually call professional help for almost every issue since it makes my life easy and I dont have to worry about tiny things

  22. Kathy L Myers

I like calling professionals instead of messing up what I am working on. I have wasted more money on trying to fix my mistakes.

  23. Beth

We got a professional to take remove the asbestos from our basement. My husband is very handy and wanted to do it himself, but I said no. It just seemed too risky to me.

  24. Ivan Carlo Jose

While DIY sounds practical, there are really issues that are best left to professionals.

    1. admin

It can be if it’s not something we are able to do ourselves.

  25. Kelly Bolen

OMG! I had to read this twice. I have a washer machine and a toilet I need repaired, b it it is so hard for me to call a professional, because I think, I can fix that! No, I can’t. At least not all the time!!! Thanks for the reminder!

  26. Nbam

Couldn’t agree more! We always reach out to the professionals for furniture fittings, exercise, taking jabs and legal things.

    1. admin

It is important to do these things properly.

  27. Blair Villanueva

I would like to include electrical wirings, plumbing, and anything to do with construction. There are many professional tradies that do this kind of job better, and I wouldn’t mind paying for professional work.

    1. admin

I agree, where we can’t do a specific job it can be best to call a professional.

  28. Nayna Kanabar

I think we tend to use the professionals mainly for diy, renovations and house decor and maintenance. It is important to find reliable and trustworthy companies .

    1. admin

I agree, it makes sure the work is done properly the first time around.

  29. Susan B

Yes, always! The problem is that they are getting fewer, so harder to find. I’m not sure if this is due to small businesses folding due to Covid or if there was a trend beforehand.

    1. admin

It can sometimes be hard to find what you need. It helps to ask friends and family and in local groups.

I think anything to do with gas or electricity needs a a professional but would shop around for a good price
