A kitchen isn’t just for cooking, it’s a place to socialise, eat, and gather with friends and family. If you, like many others, find that your kitchen has multiple uses, you’ll want to make it as functional as possible. When it comes to cooking, the mere thought of it can seem like a boring and laborious task. It’s even worse if space is limited. If you hold negative associations with your kitchen you’ll find yourself staying away from it as much as possible. A simple revamp could help your kitchen become far more appealing and encourage you to spend more time in there. Here’s how to Upgrade Your Kitchen to Make it More Functional!
How to Upgrade Your Kitchen to Make it More Functional
Organisation
Having an organised kitchen is the key to feeling relaxed in it. It may be tempting to throw down your letters, keys, and general clutter on the work surface, but when it comes to cooking, you’ll have no space and are then more likely to put off the idea. Ensure your kitchen surfaces are always clear and invest in some organisers where you can store your paperwork. To avoid clutter of miscellaneous items, try to allocate a place for all of your belongings and categorise them so you can easily group items together.
Storage
First of all, you will soon discover, you NEVER have enough storage space!!! Once you have set out your storage space organisation of items is much easier. Optimising space is key here, so you may look at using dead wall space to install shelves. If you prefer a tidier look the put up cabinets with shelves inside to hide away cups, plates and other kitchen essentials. If you have a kitchen island, or are considering one, installing drawers into the sides is an excellent way to maximise space. It adds in extra storage space to tidy away utensils and large pots and pans. You could even create a feature and have items having overhead.
Equipment
Investing in high-quality kitchenware is more likely to encourage you to make your own food. You will be able to cook with more ease, efficiency, and enjoy the results. Upgrade your old pots and pans with a set of hard ionised cookware that will last longer than your run of the mill pans. Good quality pans will have a non-stick layer and are often more aesthetically pleasing. This means they will be easier to cook with and nicer to look out encouraging you to get your dusty recipe book out more often!
The Kitchen Triangle
A good kitchen will often feature what is known as the “kitchen triangle” which consists of having a decent amount of clear space between your fridge, hob, and sink. If your surfaces have clutter on or are too far apart, cooking will become much more of a strenuous task.
Smart Speakers
Having a smart speaker such as an “Alexa” is an ideal way to increase your productivity in the kitchen. Forget stopping what you’re doing to google questions or set timers, a smart speaker can do all this for you. You can also listen to your favourite tunes whilst you chop, boil, fry etc. Cooking should be an enjoyable experience and anything that helps you make it one is a good thing.
