A Beginner’s Guide to Solid Wood Flooring

(collaborative) Solid wood flooring has been and remains to this day an extremely popular flooring choice. It has been used in homes for hundreds of years, dating all the way back to the 15th century. Although it has always been in high demand, sales have increased dramatically in recent years. But why? Here’s A Beginner’s Guide to Solid Wood Flooring …

Durability

It’s no secret that solid wood flooring is one of if not the most resilient flooring choices available. It will withstand heavy usage without showing wear and is likely to last a lifetime if cared for properly. Therefore, even if you cringe a little at its price tag, you won’t need to replace it in your lifetime unlike you might have to with other options.

Style

Solid wood looks impressive. It is beautiful and luxurious, offering classic style and elegance to your space. As well as this, it complements any interior style whether modern, rustic or classic.  There are so many options too, from wood type, colour, plank arrangement and thickness.  You can pick exactly what you like. If you really want to make an impression, laying a wooden floor in your hallway for a grand first impression is the best way to go!

Sanded Down

Although solid wood is very durable, it can scratch, stain and is no good when it comes into contact with too much water. This is a bit of a nightmare especially if you come from a busy family household! Don’t worry though, there is a way to eradicate this with solid wood. You can sand it down and refinished it to remove any damage. This can be done a number of times depending on how thick the wear layer is as well, so you can only imagine how long these stunning floors can last for!  Don’t fancy doing the repairs yourself?  You’ll find plenty of floor restoration companies on sites like Checkatrade.  Make sure you check reviews before making your decision as to whom to use.

Summary

I hope you found my short but informative post helpful.  It can be overwhelming when choosing a large range of things for a property.  This post covers the basics for all those considering having wooden flooring in their homes without being too overwhelming.

My father laid flooring for most of his life, so I grew up in a household that surrounded flooring and the different types. Wood floors are definitely the way to go. Plus they are gorgeous and versatile. I love the herringbone pattern in your picture.

They sure are perfect for just about every home. The herringbone design does look lovely.

I’d love to get solid wood flooring one day, but we opted for engineered wood flooring purely for costs reasons, but I love the durability for wood x

Solid wood can work out well as it’s hardwearing and also increases a property aesthetically and adds value.

Wood Flooring is lovely but SO expensive, We have one of the very few waterproof laminate floors, we have 5 dogs and 8 cats, 10 humans and sometimes a toddler..so we needed such hard wearing floor!

    1. admin

Honestly, It’s a great investment. You’ll need to select one of the harder woods though with all the pets and people in your home.
