Cancer Care Parcel

Gifted. These days many of us will know at least one person with cancer. They may have just been diagnosed, they may be undergoing treatment or they may be in remission having finished treatment. Other than being supportive by visiting, talking on the phone, or online we are limited as to what we can do for them. Sometimes a little gesture can be just what’s needed to put a smile on their face. It not only lets them know that you care but also provides them with a selection of products that they are likely to find useful. In this post, we look at Cancer Care Parcel and the great gifts they have tailored for those with cancer.

Cancer Care Parcel

Deluxe Comfort Care Package For Chemo Patients

There are various gift parcel options on the site but this one is my favourite. It has so many great items included within the parcel and each will come in handy. The items are selected for various reasons including comfort, nausea, pampering, stress relief and useful items. Let’s take a look at what’s included.

For Comfort

Hospital beds, waiting rooms etc are not as comfortable as we’d like. Having items that will help boost our comfort levels are essential and can be very much appreciated.

Neck Pillow

A neck pillow can really boost comfort levels whether you are in hospital or recouping at home. The pillow included in the pack is super soft and ideal for relaxing.

Magic Gloves

One common side effect of chemotherapy is cold hands. Magic gloves are not just soft but also stretchy so will fit most hands. They are just what you need to keep fingers snug and warm.

Hand Warmer

Alongside the magic gloves, the hand warmer can be invaluable. This is simple to use and heats up quickly. Simply click it and the gel heats up, helping to keep fingers warm and toasty.

Thermal Socks

Who doesn’t love a warm pair of socks!!! As with the hands, the feet can get cold as a result of chemotherapy. The socks included in the parcel are lovely and soft, just what your feet need. These thermal socks are nice and thick and help to keep feet warmer than normal cotton socks.

For Nausea

Nausea can be a big issue. Not everything works for all, but having a few different things may be able to help ease it. The package contains a few items that are commonly used to help people with nausea.

Anti Nausea Wrist bands

These clinically proven wrist bands can help with nausea that some may experience during chemotherapy. They work by putting pressure on specific points and are a great drug-free option. They are easy to slip on when needed and can be slipped into an overnight bag easily as they are small and light.

Peppermint Tea Bags

This tea is used medicinally for a number of different conditions alongside stress, anxiety and mental exhaustion. The tea helps both soothe the body and calm the mind.

Ginger Chews

Ginger is commonly suggested to help those with nausea. The ginger chews are made with ginger root and due to the strong flavour can help with the metallic taste left in the mouth during some cancer treatments.

For Pampering & Stress Relief

As anyone would appreciate, going through treatment, recovering from treatment etc can be an extremely stressful time. It’s not just the worry about whether treatment will work, it can also be the concern of the side effects that will follow. Little things that make the individual more comfortable are a lovely addition to the Cancer Care Parcel. They include:

A Blanket

When you’re comfortable it can be easier to relax. The soft blanket included in the gift box is a really good size, perfect to snuggle in either at home or in hospital. It’s also an incredibly soft blanket making it that much nicer to use.

Lip Balm

Have you noticed how much your skin and lips seem to dry out in hospital? A good quality lip balm is perfect for dry lips. This one is ideal to help soothe and prevent cracking when used regularly.

Colouring Pad and Colouring Pencils

Staying in hospital is boring. Having had a number of stints for various reasons I know that within a few days you are climbing the walls. There is only so long you can look at your phone, look at a tv, read, etc. You need to have things to help break up the monotony. Something I found very helpful was colouring. Granted it was kids colouring pictures we were given but by that stage anything was welcome to ease the boredom. Colouring can help distract the mind and focus it on the task at hand. It can be a good distraction and one that helps pass the time.

Additional Useful Items

You need a range of items when travelling to and from and also staying in hospital. These are just some of what you might need:

Cool Bag

For day trips or food delivery from friends or even for food bought from the hospital canteen, the cool bag is perfect to, yes you guessed it, keep your food cool. Your appetite will be reduced so you’ll only be able to handle so much food at any one time. The cool bag helps you have somewhere to store your food between your meals and it’s a good size too.

Earphones

Whilst in hospital you might play games on an ipad, listen to music etc. Other patients don’t want to hear what you are listening to so it helps to have a pair of headphones handy for use when needed. They also come in handy when you are travelling to and from the hospital.

Water bottle

Another essential when in hospital. It’s easy to get caught up with everything happening and forget to drink enough water. This is a perfect addition to the parcel and is BPA free. It cuts down on the need for water cups so is an environmentally friendly option. Refilled from the water dispensers in the hospital if you have a prolonged stay. The bottle is a good size so you won’t need to refill too often.

I can’t tell you how much I love this. I had a friend who battled cancer (she won), and I put together a homemade version of something like this for her. She loved it. Fantastic idea.

    1. admin

I’m so pleased to hear that she won the battle. It can be a long and repetitive process and very draining. A hamper with goodies can be a really lovely and distracting gift.

  3. Amber Myers

I love this! I need to give some of these for cancer patients I know. I know it’s not easy so anything I can do to help is a must.

When you have cancer, every person who thinks of you matters. My mom had cancer and every person who took time out mattered a great deal to her. If it was a care package, a phone call, a special soup, whatever… she appreciated every little thing so so much! Kudos to those who take time to care.

It can become quite isolating when you are going through something like this. I agree, any attempt to show you care can be greatly appreciated by those going through this.

What a wonderful post, these are great ideas for a cancer patient care basket and I’m 100% certain things like this would be appreciated. A friend of mine who had cancer and my daughter had said that it was the most lonely experience in their lives, so things like this to remind them that we care and they’re not as alone as they feel is just wonderful.

    1. admin

I agree, providing distractions can be really welcome when stuck in hospital or recovering at home.

  16. Elizabeth Ervin

My mom recently passed from her battle with Brest cancer. This reminded me of these gifts that we gathered for her during her last round of chemo. Total strangers on the internet made sure everything on the cancer list I created was bought and shipped to her. It made her so happy to know strangers cared and to get gifts in the mail. It was one of her last joys before passing. It’s a great idea.

  17. Luna S

This is such a heartfelt gift box! I will pass this onto a friend of mine who is looking for some ideas for a cancer care box for her father.

Thanks Agnes, these are all useful items for anyone having to have prolonged hospital stays.

  31. Renata

This is a good list, however, I’m afraid that there are no two cancer patients alike. Therefore, I would always inquire what that particular person really needs.

    1. admin

Yes that is true. the good thing is you can have a box made up if you prefer. Simply select the items you prefer.

  32. Kim Carberry

This type of parcel is such a lovely idea. My daughters friend is undergoing treatment for cancer and at the moment gifts like this really cheer her up.

    1. admin

This is a lovely gift option but there are also others on the site. It’s worth taking a look.

  33. Lyosha

that is actually a great idea. I have a friend who is fighting cancer right now, moreover, she is fighting alongside her mother. luckily they both were diagnosed very early (my friend has a lucky stage 1, and her mother is early stage 2). I have no idea how to properly cheer her up, flowers are nice but way too common, and if sent often… it’s just boring. such a box is a great way to helpfully cheer up your friend on his/her/theirs way to recovery.

    1. admin

I’m sorry to hear that. I do hope they recover. Luckily there is treatment out there that is effective, especially at the early stages. This would brighten their day, that’s for sure.

  34. Neely Moldovan

    1. admin
