(collaborative) If you are going stir crazy by now, you’re not the only one. Having been cooped up for so long many of us are climbing the walls. We need to get out, but where to go? There are a fair few places you could consider visiting. You’ll find plenty of great London Attractions To Visit in December 2020. There is nothing stopping you hopping on the train to Finsbury Park and then on to the West End or surrounding areas for a fun day out. But, where can you go this year. Is anything still open / on?
Unfortunately, Winter Wonderland won’t be open this year for us all to enjoy fabulously festive fun, but there are plenty of things you can still do.
Aside from the lovely parks that you can visit in the open air, there are also some places where it will be business as usual although with safety precautions in place.
London Attractions To Visit in December 2020
A Christmas Carol
Christmas is the time people like to visit the theatre. Many flock to London’s West End to take in a festive show as part of the build up to the big day. For some, it has become a fabulously fun tradition enjoyed by the whole family. This year the classic A Christmas Carol returns to the stage and is showing at London’s Dominion Theatre from the 7th December. It’s set to be a magical show, just what you need to get you into the Christmas spirit.
Potted Panto
This 70 minute pantomime will have you in stitches. It features characters from seven of our favourite pantomimes including the genie from Aladdin, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella etc. It’s a great show for all the family, suitable for ages 6+. It will be socially distanced and shows start from the 5th of December and continue until the 10th of January 2021. Full of Christmas cheer, it’s the ideal activity for the run up to Christmas.
The Nut Cracker
More into ballet than panto? Then this is for you. This classic fairytale is brought to life by the 100 dancers and fantastic sets. It certainly is great to watch with the family. Always popular, so one to book early performances are from the 17th December until the 3rd of January.
See The Magical Christmas Lights
One of my favourite London Attractions To Visit in December 2020 has to be the lights. The famed Christmas lights in London will still be seen in many a street. We could all do with some festive cheer and the pretty sparkly lights sure are a wonderful way to help. Grab your walking shoes, make sure your fitbit is good and ready for a good pounding. Don’t forget to grab a hot chocolate, perfect to keep you warm on a cold winter’s night.
This year the lights can be found on Oxford Street and Regent Street having seen them before I can say they are lovely. Others that are on include Carnaby Street, I’m sure many are gutted by the permanent closure of Choccywoccydoodah in the area. The lights in Covent Garden, Seven Dials, Bond Street, Mayfair and Belgravia will also be getting passers by in the festive mood, so make sure you visit some of them this year. Lights will be up until the 4-6th January depending on which you go to see.
Kew Gardens
Kew gardens is even more spectacular to visit at Christmas with its beautifully lit trail through the botanical gardens. You’ll find a tunnel of light made up of more than a million lights and a light show alongside festive music. Make sure you wrap up nice and snug and grab a mulled wine or hot chocolate to sip as you walk through admiring the displays. This will be open from the 4th December until the 17th January.
Hampton Court Ice Rink
One of the most popular Christmassy activities seems to be ice skating. Located by the River Thames and boasting a massive 1040 square meters, it is even more impressive at night when the lights are turned on. It’s ideal for a family visit. Be sure to book in advance to hire one of the penguin and dolphin skate aids for kids. There are sessions for different levels. Food and drink pop ups suitably decorated add to the atmosphere. Open from the 3rd of December until the 3rd of January.
Hogwarts in the Snow
Somewhere I know many kids and adults would love to visit. Make Christmas that much more magical by going to see this amazing makeover especially for the festive season. This takes place at Warner Bros Studio Tour London and is set to make for a wonderous day out. Part of the hall is set up for the Yule Ball with plenty of snow and icicles. As you venture around you will see all sorts of pretty sparkly Christmas decorations adding further magic to an already magical experience. Not to be missed they will be extending their opening hours in December to make sure you book your tickets from now to find a suitable time slot. The attraction will be opening its doors from the 3rd December until the 17th January 2021.
Book a Private Dome in The Secret Garden
Book a private dome for up to six people (due to government restrictions) and enjoy food and drink in your own private dome. Enjoy a relaxed lunch, afternoon tea or even dinner. Their tasting Asian menu sounds especially delicious. This will be reopening from the 3rd of December.
Greenwich Market
You’ll find all sorts of gift inspiration from over 150 shops and market stalls. Items such as eco-friendly candles, homeware, handmade jewellery, art and much more are available to purchase. Buy some of the tasty food and drink from the various stalls to enjoy whilst you shop and listen to the festive music being played. The market is open daily with late opening every Wednesday up to and including the 23rd of December.
Visit Santa
Visitors will be able to find a number of places where you can visit Santa in London but the experience at Hamleys has to be one of the best. You’ll visit Santa with his elves at the workshop and get to take part in seasonal activities. You’ll also get a special gift bag. Options start from a bubble of three people to a maximum of six. This is available up until the 24th of December.

Oh my gosh, I wish I could be in London for the holidays but there are travel restrictions. Ugh. But I hope to be in London over the summer. I am big on the history there so I cannot wait to visit old landmarks.
It’s a great place to visit any time of year. Plenty to do there.

Oh man, I went to England in January 2016 and it was FREEEEZING and everything was cold!! Didn’t go to London though! Wish I did because it seems like there was much more to do than where I went.

There are some great attractions to see this month in London. I’d personally like to see the potted panto; it’s festive and great for families too.
It does sound like a great activity to do with the family.
I grew up in London and I would love to go back. The holidays just cannot be beaten there, and I bet it looks so festive right now. Since Hogwarts is newer, I would love to check that out.

There is something special about London during the Christmas season with so much to see and do. Not to mention the food variety is out of this world. Such a melting pot of nationalities and cultures.
It is a great place to visit any time of year really. So much going on all the time.
So many things still happening in London this December. I am actually going to a show in a couple of weeks, and I hope it won’t get cancelled. I’ll also check out the lights whilst I’m there as well.
