The year 2020 has brought us COVID-19, which significantly impacted our society. As a result, for the first time in our history, our children were forced to do their school lessons and homework online. Although it had both negatives and positives, this assisted in the development of various technologies some of which our children have learnt to use. Schools used video communication services to teach daily classes and if they weren’t already better than their parents with technology children became even better at using computers for their school work. It makes you think really, do you need to help your child with online learning, or do they need to help us learn to use technology better?

Help Your Child With Online Learning
One drawback of online is that many children find it difficult to concentrate on their studies when they are not in a school environment. The main responsibility of parents is to ensure that their child continues to study during the online-learning process. But, your kid should spend time with friends, have fun, and engage in physical activity. It naturally falls to the parent to assist their child in adjusting to the new way of studying.
When they are old enough, it is important to teach our kids to plan their days so work is completed on time. Having trouble concentrating can be an issue and affect how well a child does with their work. As a parent, you’ll need to consider How can you help your child with online learning.
Let’s take a look at things you might find helpful.
Create A Study Area
You’ll need to provide your child with a comfortable space where they can do their homework or do online studying. In some cases, you may need to look at making more space so you can dedicate a section of a room for them to study that might double up as a work area for you when they are not using it. This is important because kids and students may spend approximately 6 hours or more in their study space each week. You can also teach them responsibility by putting them in charge of keeping this space clean and tidy.
Use Special Devices and Programmes for Online-Learning
Your child will need access to a computer or ipad that can support programs being used by schools for online learning. Ensure that the computer camera and microphone work for when they are needed. The majority of schools started implementing online learning by using such programs as Zoom, Google Meets, or Skype. If you don’t know how to use them, you could take a look at the various guides on the internet. Some schools have been helpful with providing families with a computer where children would otherwise not be able to access one.
Using Google Calendar will help avoid confusing deadlines. Add all dates work is due, lessons, and breaks to this to help stay organised.
You can also purchase a program allowing you to record audio from a computer, which might be very useful to record classes, especially for older children where classes may be more complicated.
A good set of headphones will help cut out external noises and prevent your child from being distracted from their work especially if they have noisy siblings.
Set a Daily Schedule
A schedule at school is essential. Schools have kept this going with online lessons. It keeps a sense of normality which is reassuring for children. A daily routine can reduce anxiety and help children adjust to the new learning process. For parents of younger children, it’s important to give special attention to the child’s schedule. This way we can help our child complete all assignments in time. If your child’s school sends the homework for different subjects, you could do homework according to the schedule. However, a child should have brain breaks in order to help children focus better and be more productive.
Contact School Teachers
Because online education is fairly new to parents, it is normal to seek assistance from teachers where needed. They are always available if you have questions or need assistance. Don’t feel embarrassed to ask as they understand we were all learners once.
Summary: The Impact of Online-Learning
Children’s lives have changed in recent years. Children are now expected to use computers to complete assignments from teachers and to access sites to find out what their homework is each week. As a parent, you will need to be aware of how to access such sites to be able to Help Your Child With Online Learning.
Having lived through a pandemic many of us parents now know how to help our children with online learning. Are there any tips you might add to help other readers in case we have another lockdown?

Oh man, online learning was tough in this house. My daughter gets distracted easily so I had to constantly make sure she was doing her work. Quiet spots helped, but then she’d start singing or doing a dance and…whew, I’m glad that’s over.
Some kids are easily distracted, most often the younger ones. Ha, I know what you mean. It is hard when all work is focused online.
These are great tips. Even though my kids went to traditional school and not during a pandemic, they had their study areas so they could get homework done before anything else.
It’s good to have a dedicated area for study. It can help improve focus.
My children dislike using computers for schoolwork, I think it is unhealthy for them to look at screens for too long.
I agree, having breaks is essential x
I’m so glad we don’t have online learning anymore. It was a challenge for my daughter to stay motivated and engaged.
It doesn’t work with all children unfortunately.
These are all really great ideas and tips to help out kids! I’m gonna start creating schedule for my son! This is so helpful!
Some great tips here. I am so glad the kids are finally back in school. Their homework is all sent to them online, and I make sure they check it and do it before they play out or go on their game consoles.
That’s good, having a routine can really help.
I feel like online learning is really a double-edged sword. Of course, it’s convenient for the kids to do their work from home, but there’s far less teacher interaction and instruction. Great tips!
I can see how remote learning would make focusing hard for the kids. There are just so many things to distract them at home, no matter how well you prep their learning environment.
These are all excellent tips. My kids had to do remote learning for about a year and a half, and at first, we thought it was amazing. They were so easily distracted, though.
Think it’s important to take regular breaks from work looking at the screen, allows kids to refresh and come back to their learning when after they’ve been destressed
These are some very helpful tips for helping kids with online learning. We have an area for it and dedicate time for learning everyday
We love online learning. My boys have both done online learning for their school since they were in kindergarten. My oldest son will graduate this year. It’s been a blast. As a mom, I’ve enjoyed watching them learn throughout the years.
So much work is done online that it is good for kids to get used to online learning as early as possible. I love a schedule as an adult so that would have worked best for me as a kid x
I’m thankful it isn’t something I had to go through but with how tech savvy my grandchildren are it seems like online learning would be great supplemental learning during downtime or to stay caught up when out of school, there are so many programs and options available!
Good online learning still takes into account a child’s needs. So you should see your child moving, working on worthy work, and having conversations with other students.
Online learning is tough for most parents so they also need all the tips that they can get.
It can be hard especially for prolonged periods of time.
Online learning has changed everything! I still prefer traditional educational arrangements, but online is here to stay and something we need to get used to and adapt to. It has its share of plusses and minuses, just like everything. But technological change is here to stay so we need to learn how to get the most out of it.
It is something we will all need to get used to. There certainly are many advantages to it.
Creating a study area is awesome for the mindset as well. I always do it with my little brother when I try to help him with his studies.
I’ve been debating homeschooling when my girls start school. Love these tips for online learning!
It can work well as long as you are well organised.
Such a wonderful idea to help our kids with their online learning! Homeschooling or online learning is really a tedious task for any kids, especially to parents!
It can be pretty tedious but having breaks will help all.
I love these. I’d add on encouraging them to take their routine breaks.
Wonderful tips especially now that online learning has become the norm of the new normal.
Thanks Marky, I’m glad you liked the tips.
We’ve been homeschooling for years and all of these are very helpful, especially when it comes to online learning. Having a schedule is important, but I’ve had to learn to be flexible because kids do get sick and have dentist appointments, etc.
That’s very true, there does need to be a degree of flexibility.
Some kids don’t care for it and others thrive in it. I’ve seen both first hand and I appreciate your tips.
My son struggled so much with online learning. Even with the proper tools in place, he still just didn’t like it. He needed structure. I ended up putting him back into the regular classroom when we had the option.
I think most did the same. I don’t know many that continued with homeschooling when they no longer had to.
I prefer learning in person. It’s not always possible and sometime online learning can be a great opportunity. I think that’s important to have a special dedicated area in your house!
Learning in person is better where possible.
Great tips, i really got into swing of it during lockdown but would not like to try it again now lol
It is hard work. It helps to have a dedicated space and a routine.
I love these tips. In the begging, I struggled with online learning with my daughter. However, as time passed, it got more accessible and more fun.
It gets easier slowly. It takes some getting used to.
My kids HATED online school. Thankfully it was short lived for them. They are older so they didn’t require much help from me.
It’s lucky you could leave them to do most of it themselves.
My kids are still too young for online learning but it could be intersting if they have to do it!
It is good to be able to do it if we end up in a similar position as before.
my toddler attended line learning last year and it finds me though, since I’ve been working out of home for 8 hours only the nanny assisted her. good thing face-to-face class is back this time
I have to agree, face to face takes the stress off especially when you work from home.
Having a schedule is so important to keep progressing. I had to help mine with online learning, and some days it was a challenge!
I know what you mean. And it’s harder the more kids you have.
Online learning can be a challenge. My kids did remote schooling for a year and it definitely had its share of difficulties.
It can be hard but then sometimes it’s the only available option.
Home schooling online education has become the new normal normal. Yes your tips to make it more interesting for kids is really good!
These are great tips, Modern technology is now being used more in schools and now a part of everyday education.
It really does make a difference
