This post looks at skincare products ideal for the winter season. Products from Handmade Naturals have been gifted for the purposes of this post. They were specifically chosen by me to create a post for readers that will help them get their hands on the Best Skincare Products to Use This Winter. I’ve used my own experience and knowledge from my degree in Phytotherapy/Herbal Medicine and product making experience to select items that are perfect for the winter season.
With the change in seasons comes a change in requirements when it comes to our skin. As a result, we should all begin to look at updating the skincare products we use on both our face and body. The cold harsh wind and home heating conspire against us. The result is dry skin patches on our faces and bodies, sore cracked lips and cracks on our hands. If not addressed these progressively worsen and can become excruciatingly painful. There are different ways we can help reduce and even avoid these from happening. We all know that diet can influence the skin greatly but we also need to remember that beauty products can also be beneficial too.
One of my favourite natural skincare companies is as Handmade Naturals. These guys have a rapidly growing range of gorgeous award-winning natural products that many readers have enjoyed discovering in previous blog posts. I’ve teamed up with them again, having selected some of my favourite winter skincare items from their site specifically for this post. I’ve tailored a post with products that will ensure your skin has a beautiful healthy glow all winter long.
Here are my top picks:
Face Cleansing Scrub with Bamboo Fibre, Avocado, Plum and Sweet Orange
100ml £9.95
Scrubs are an essential product for skincare. Regular use enables us to remove dead skin but overuse can irritate and dry out the skin. It’s best to use these 2 times a week at the most. The scrub contains nourishing cleansers so not only remove impurities but prevent skin being dried out in the process.
Main Active Ingredients include:
Bamboo Extract
This is a popular addition to scrubs as it works as a gentle exfoliant that buffs and polishes the skin. By using this rather than irregular shaped particles you avoid micro-tears in the skins surface. Another reason for using bamboo is due to its high silica content. Silica is found in high concentrations here and helps strengthen the skin by improving the absorption of essential minerals and promote collagen production, this helps plump the skin and reduce wrinkles. The bamboo extract has anti-irritant properties and is high in antioxidants to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Plum Kernel Oil
This softens, soothes, nourishes and hydrates the skin leaving it looking radiant without a greasy residue. The high antioxidant content helps fight free radicals which cause accelerated skin ageing. The Vitamin E and unsaturated fatty acids promote healing, reducing irritation, redness and dry skin. It also reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by preventing the deterioration of collagen within the skin.
Unrefined Avocado Oil
We all know avocadoes are rich in good fats but how often do we think about using these on our faces? It’s extremely nourishing and contains a wonderful range of ingredients which are anti-inflammatory, emollient (soften the skin), antiageing and more.
Sweet Orange Oil
This has nourishing and soothing properties. It also improves skin texture giving a radiant glow. Importantly it also stimulates cell growth and collagen production.
Thoughts:
Skin is left feeling fresh, clean, soft and nourished without an oily residue. It makes a great addition to a skincare routine especially during the winter months as it doesn’t dry the skin. You don’t need to use much, a little goes a long way.
Replenishing Face Cream with Organic Rose, Rosehip, Shea Butter & Evening Primrose
50ml £14.50
Rose essential oil is one of my favourite ingredients for face products and one I would use when I made my own. Not only does it smell wonderful but it also has many desirable properties. Knowing what to combine it with is a task for the inexperienced. I can safely say that Handmade Naturals have created a wonderful face cream with ingredients that work well together.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Golden Jojoba Oil
As well as having moisturising properties this oil is antibacterial, antioxidant, healing and is non-comedogenic (doesn’t block pores) and balances sebum production.
Rose Otto Essential Oil
Commonly used for mature and dry skin, this oil is ideal to give the skin a youthful glow and also help smooth, hydrate and improve skin elasticity and minimise the appearance of fine lines.
Rosewood Essential Oil
A great oil for the skin, Rosewood essential oil has regenerative properties like rose oil. This oil is great for marks including stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and also acne.
Evening Primrose Oil
Great for dry skin and also to help prevent skin drying in cold weather. This oil not only moisturises but also soothes skin irritation, smoothes out skin, reduces the appearance of wrinkles and increases skin elasticity.
Organic Shea Butter
A skin softener with anti-inflammatory properties. Shea butter is used for skin conditions such as acne and psoriasis. It also has anti-ageing properties, stimulating collagen production which plumps up the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles.
Thoughts:
Perfect for keeping skin plump and healthy looking. It helps protect the skin from the elements outdoors and from indoor heating. A must-have to keep your skin moisturised this winter. It’s a great addition to any skincare routine. The pump bottle allows for easy usage and minimises excess product being dispensed. This is ideal for day or night use. A bestseller on the site, it won’t take you long to see why when you try it! ❤️
Revitalising Anti-Oxidant Face and Neck Serum with Rosehip, Raspberry, Rose and Geranium
30ml £16.75
Who doesn’t love a good serum!!! This one isn’t just good, it’s also a Janey Loves Platinum Award winner 2011. If you are looking for a serum that protects, heals, nourishes and much more grab yourself one of these.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Raspberry Seed Oil
Raspberry seed oil is rich in the antioxidant Vitamin E, it also contains Vitamin A and omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids. These work together to give an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and nourishing effect. This not only provides protection against free radicles, but it also protects against premature ageing. The oil locks in moisture to help protect skin from harsh winter days.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Roship seed oil is rich in vitamin A and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids helping the skin combat the signs of ageing. It also absorbs well into the skin without leaving a residue. The oil is known for its anti-inflammatory, regenerative and toning effects.
Borage Seed Oil
Again, the fatty acid content is high. It’s wonderful on mature skin and also where there are inflammatory conditions such as acne, dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. This oil alongside Rosehip seed oil is ideal to reduce redness of the skin.
Plum Kernel Oil
Hydrates soothes and fights ageing. More details mentioned under a previous product.
Macadamia Nut Oil
As well as having wonderful softening effects on the skin this also has anti-ageing properties. It combines well and complements the other ingredients.
Thoughts:
The combination of natural ingredients gives the product an effective mix of protective, anti-inflammatory, restorative properties that help skin stay looking and feeling healthy despite the awful cold weather. And, it smells just as amazing as you might expect! It comes in an atomiser bottle for easy dispensing and use.
Rose and Shea Eye Cream with Organic Shea Butter, Aloe Vera, Olive, Rose, Rosehip and Avocado
15ml £7.25
From the product name, you know you are onto a winner. It won Handmade Naturals a Veggie Award in 2019. Packed full of a mix of super nourishing, healing and protective ingredients this is a great eye cream that you will find you can’t do without.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Unrefined Avocado Oil
This oil possesses anti-inflammatory and skin softening properties. More details are mentioned under a previous product.
Virgin cold Pressed Olive Oil
Moisturising, antibacterial and antioxidant properties make this a great addition to help protect against the harsh winter elements.
Virgin Organic African Shea Butter
This cleanses, allowing the skin to breathe and unclogs pores to help prevent acne. It also nourishes, heals and moisturises the skin. Shea butter is also known for its ability to smooth the skin and reduce the occurrence of wrinkles.
Unrefined Rosehip Seed Oil
Unrefined oils have more active components compared to refined oils. The properties of rosehip seed oil have been discussed under another product. Needless to say, it’s a great active ingredient.
Thoughts:
Again, a wonderfully fragranced product that is easy to dispense. You may find that after using this great product you won’t want to use anything else. This may be small but it’s pretty mighty. You won’t need much each application.
Pure Cocoa Natural Lip Balm Stick with Sweet Almond, Organic Cocoa Butter & Calendula
£2.95
Who doesn’t love a good lip balm! This is one is packed with some great natural ingredients.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Cocoa Butter and Sweet Almond
Rich in Vitamin E these are a great combination of natural products, ideal to help soothe, moisturise and heal the lips.
Calendula Oil
A popular oil amongst herbalists, this has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral (good for cold sores) and antiseptic properties. It works alongside the other ingredients to facilitate healing.
Organic Beeswax
Not only does this create a protective surface, preventing the biting wind drying out the skin, it also acts as a humectant. This means that it helps the skin retain its moisture that would otherwise evaporate into the surrounding air.
Thoughts:
Once you discover the range you’re going to want to have at least one of each. Options even include a cocoa and mint lip balm – I know it sounds like heaven doesn’t it. Pop one in your pocket, handbag, makeup back, bathroom cabinet etc and you’ll be set to have fabulous lips all winter long.
Handmade Soap – Cocoa, Honey & Oatmeal Round Bar with Manuka & Lavender
100g £4.15
A great vegetarian soap that is likely to replace all the others you have in your home.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Organic Coconut
Soothes irritation, gives a moisture boost and helps the skin retain moisture. It leaves skin with a wonderful healthy glow.
Organic Cocoa Butter
As previously mentioned, this is great to help skin moisturise levels and also heals.
Olive Oils
A great addition to a body washing product as it doesn’t dry the skin like some other skin cleaning products. The oil helps moisturise as well as having other properties – as previously mentioned.
Fine Oatmeal
A wonderfully soothing ingredient commonly used to help ease skin conditions by herbalists. This acts as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and also a skin cleanser.
Thoughts:
A lovely combination of natural ingredients that gently clean skin, removing impurities and also soothing and reducing any inflammation caused by conditions or by the cold weather and central heating.
Lemongrass & Lavender Hand and Body Lotion with Almond, Plum Kernel & Cocoa Butter
100ml £8.95
It goes without saying that after cleaning the skin it can sometimes need a helping hand on the moisture front. This hand and body lotion will do just that.
Some of the Main Active Ingredients include:
Sweet Almond Oil
This locks in moisture helping to keep it plump. Combine this with the antioxidant properties from the Vitamin E and you find that wrinkles will appear less defined. Some research shows that it may reduce the risk of stretch marks and help prevent them from spreading further. It contains linoleic acid which is easily absorbed and can help prevent acne.
Virgin Cocoa Butter
Works amazingly well in this body lotion as it moisturises and seals in moisture making skin feel soft. It also helps brighten the appearance of skin.
Plum Kernel Oil
As mentioned, plum kernel oil has anti-ageing properties. A must for a body lotion especially when used on hands which are exposed to the winter air, sunlight, and central heating.
Thoughts:
A lovely, light, easily absorbed lotion that will keep skin feeling incredibly soft and looking healthy too. The pump bottle is ideal for controlling the amount dispensed.

It really is important. They will be especially sore if we don’t get into good habits and look after our hands.
Their prices look good for natural products and the ingredients look very moisturising too. I like that they use shea butter in face products as many companies use cocoa butter which can clog pores.

Winter is always hard on the skin, especially if you spend a lot of time outdoors like I do. I like that these products contain natural ingredients so would be gentle on the skin. The soap bar sounds good, much better than liquid soap in plastic and I also like the sound of the face scrub that won’t dry out the skin. Lovely products!

They all sound simply lovely and I would be tempted by any of them. The Rose and Shea Eye Cream though I think is my favourite and the first I would try as my eyes have such dark shadows.
Wow thanks for sharing this brand the products look fantastic! I often find brands tend to use too many chemicals which aggravate my skin so these could look quite promising for me!
Great article, I love using natural products on my skin and as my daughter is now using more and more products I am trying to encourage her to do the same.

They are gorgeous products. I’ve been using these for a few years now x
It is so good to use natural products on your skin. Natural products are good for our skin and for the environment. Please keep up the good work and save our planet.
I really like the sound of all the products you’ve reviewed particularly the face serum with raspberry in it. I’d like to try out the exfoliating bamboo scrub and see how that went with my skin because scrubs seem to always block my pores for some reason. I always get blocked up pores as if the exfoliant has itself got wedged into them. It’s so frustrating. I don’t know if it can happen but it seems to.
Fantastic products, they sound perfect for sensitive skin.
These products are fantastic – count me in please! Good luck everyone.
excited about the almond oil & the reassuring review of it
I’ve used Handmade Naturals products before and they are all lovely. I really like the sound of the Lemongrass and Lavender Hand and Body Lotion. I have really dry skin, especially my hands as I’m a nurse so wash them many, many times a day.
I’m glad you like them too Helen.
I agree, my skin needs something more now it has turned very cold. Plum kernel oil is new to me, I am going to check out a couple of these products!
They all sound amazing and perfect for a good pamper. I love products where you only need a small amount and a little goes a long way as it’s so cost effective. I think my favourite would be the cleansing scrub, especially with this cold weather to buff away all the dry skin.
That is a great product. We could all do with that!!!
Love the Lemongrass and Lavendar fragrance – some lovely looking products here.
Great natural fragrances
I had no idea that Oatmeal acts as an antioxidant and, anti-inflammatory. I’ve only ever know lavender to do that & sometimes smell of that overpowering.
Natural products have some great properties x
I have not heard of these products before but they sound brilliant.
these look like lovely products, great that they are natural products too

I love cocoa butter! I was once out at my local bingo hall where my friend Steve worked and went to chat to him. It was almost Easter time and they had eggs to give out as extra prizes and he made me laugh when he said how chocolatey the eggs were that night….It was actually me he could smell! Haha!
lol, it does smell great doesn’t it x
