We all have off days. Days where we put very little or no effort into our appearance. Days where we scoop our hair into a ponytail, leave our pj’s on or slip on a comfy tracksuit and just lounge about the house. But, what if this isn’t just one day, what if the urge to do this becomes your new daily reality? We can all lose track and fall into a cycle where you no longer feel good about your external appearance. Your self-esteem may waver and confidence in yourself reduces. This is something that can happen to many and I found myself in this position after having my first child. You will find my post, Boost Your Self Esteem in 5 Simple Steps both interesting and helpful.
There are steps you can take to help boost your feeling of self worth and self love.

Boost Your Self Esteem in 5 Simple Steps
Have a pamper day
A pamper day is a fantastic way to practice self care and give you a little boost. You could opt for a home spa day with a lovely long relaxing bath infused with beautifully scented oils, relaxing music playing in the background, a rich nourishing hair mask, glass of prosecco, and a great book. Alternatively, book yourself in for a spa day for a mani-pedi, massage even a facial. Whatever helps you feel relaxed and good about yourself. A regular booking so that this becomes part of your routine can be beneficial whether it’s once a week, month, every two months, whatever suits your budget and lifestyle.
Work on Your Body
One way to boost self-confidence is to get yourself to and maintain a healthy body weight. It’s depressing when you put on weight and demotivating when you discover it’s not so easy to lose it again and the clothes you loved to wear no longer fit. Losing weight isn’t about being a certain size, it’s about reaching a healthy weight for you. Check your BMI (Body Mass Index) online to find out what this is. Then it’s a case of adjusting the amount of exercise you are doing and looking at the food you eat alongside the portion size. Eating well, exercising and generally looking after your body over a prolonged period will have you looking better and feeling better too. Your clothes will naturally fit better and you’ll feel stronger, more energised and happier.
Take Care of Your Hair
Our hair can contribute greatly to our identity and how we feel about ourselves. It is important for us to give it the attention and care it deserves. It helps to know what hair type you have and use this information to look after it correctly. Once you know your hair type you’ll have an idea of which products to use. We learn which products will benefit our hair by trial and error. Most will benefit by investing in good quality beauty oils such as argan oil, deep conditioners and hair care products. Use these to revitalise hair, add moisture and give a silky feel and glossy appearance. Regular trims will help keep hair looking healthy. If you feel like a change then you can consider a style change or extensions. A colour change or highlights are also great for a new look and a big confidence boost.
Look After Your Skin
Your skin is one of the first things people notice about you. Skin issues such as dry skin, acne and psoriasis are common and can have a large impact on our self-confidence. Although makeup can help to disguise this to a degree skin till won’t look flawless. Issues with the skin are usually a result of underlying problems in the body, often these are hormonal. Topical washes and over the counter treatments can help a little but many are not very effective. It is important to have a doctor identify the source of the problem and treat that. This will help alleviate the problem and reduce the associated stress. Having a good skincare routine can be helpful as it can help protect skin from pollution and reduces the risk of skin damage, fine lines and wrinkles and skin feeling fresh and supple.
Some people feel that certain procedures can help improve their appearance and the way they feel about themselves. Fillers around the eyes are very popular to improve the appearance of dark circles. Those with thin lips may opt for fillers for a more plump appearance. Such procedures last for around twelve months and are far less daunting than going under the knife with less recovery time.
Have Fun with Clothes and Accessories
Your clothing choices not only influence the way others perceive you, your choice of clothes also affect the way you feel. We all need a bit of a change sometimes and mixing up outfit styles and colours can be a good way to do this. Go shopping, try something new and have fun with it. Add some fun accessories like a scarf, brightly coloured bag, nose ring hoop, chunky statement necklace, knee-high boots. The main thing is to try something different from your normal style. You never know what you might take a shine to. Try on a gorgeous feminine dress with dainty pretty sandals, or why not be a rock chick for the day with some leather trousers and a band tee. Whatever look you decide to trial, have fun with it, don’t hold back and remember it’s even more fun to go shopping with friends!!!

My tip would be don’t attach your self worth to how you look. As you age how you look changes. Instead work on your self esteem from the inside out. It’s something I’ve struggled with a while, and that’s the #1 thing I’d recommend
My hair is getting longer and since salons are still closed I can’t have my hair treatment. For the meantime, I’ve been treating my hair with more hair conditioners than usual, and now my hair looks great again.

Thanks a lot for this!
Self esteem is important. It is the lack of this that allows people to abuse others and be abused. When you know your worth and value, you know when to make a stand and when to walk away from people.
Those are some great tips to keep in mind. It’s nice to do something to boost your self esteem.
I am happy you put a pamper day on here. Sometimes you have to unwind to feel good from the inside and out too.
