Airhogs Sonic Rocket

I like to think of myself as a fun mum.  I think I probably am when I am the only parent running around with the children in the play area of a  pub with function rooms during a birthday party.  Of course the second a mum grabbed her phone to video me I was off in a blink of an eye – can’t have me doing daft stuff all over YouTube – I don’t think the world is quite ready for that just yet.

It’s great that at my age I have self diagnosed Peter Pan syndrome as it means I can pick out items I know my children and others will love when it comes to review requests.

That was definitely the case when I was asked if I wanted to review and Airhogs Sonic Rocket for children ages 8+.  Who wouldn’t want to set of a rocket?

In The Box

1 Rocket

1 Launch stand

1 USB cable to charge the rocket

The rocket itself is already set up so thankfully no assembly was required because you know we’d have messed that up in our excitement to use it.  The rocket is 23cm high, (smaller than expected) and there is also a base from which to launch it off.  This is recommended for outdoor use due to the heights it reaches.  Yes, this little beauty will go pretty high.  You can choose from 3 power modes depending on how many times you press the button; once = 50 ft., twice = 100 ft., and three times = 200 ft.  It’s great fun watching this gently glide back down.  How amazing does that sound???  The rocket is easy to charge, simply plug in the usb cable (included in the pack) into your computer or laptop.  Each charge can give 50 launches with no waiting in between.  Simply launch the rocket, watch the rotating countdown to blast-off and watch it fly off into the air.  Collect it when it lands and you are ready to launch again.  The rocket is made from crash-resistant foam to help avoid damage and to make it super light so it can really impress with the heights it reaches.

When the rocket arrived it was raining and I was devastated.  The next day it rained again, OMG nature was clearly conspiring against me.  With this continuing for what seemed like an eternity eventually my luck came in.  The second I realised the rain had briefly forgotten to pay us a visit I was out like a shot straight to the park with no2 to set off the rocket.  Excitedly we ran to a nice open space to prepare for launch.

With rocket and base in hand my daughter prepared to set up the rocket ready for launch.

Onto the base it slots easily and then you simply press the button (1,2 or 3 times depending on how high you want it to go).

Stand back and watch.  The rocket spins prior to lift off in preparation.

Then it slowly ascends.

And Higher

And Higher

Can you see it?

My daughter had to run a long way to collect the rocket as it was windy on the day we launched.  Can you spot her in the picture below?

We did get a few goes where the rocket didn’t go up and decided to whizz briefly around the grass but most goes it went up into the air.

You’ve got to see the video.  Here we demonstrate each height

What Did We Think?

The rocket is reasonably priced and can be found in Argos for £15.99 at the moment as they have 20% off, bargain.

It doesn’t take long to charge and you get to play with it for quite a bit before needing to recharge which is great.  The usb charger means it is easy to charge even when you are out and about if you have a power bank you can charge it when you are out and play for ages.

The rocket was simple to use and I for one was relieved there was no need to assemble it.  The only thing you had to do was set up the stand which was easy enough and place the rocket on it.

The rocket spins before launch as part of the count down adding to the fun.

It’s so much fun.  We loved watching the rocket and soon enough we had a small group of onlookers joining in the fun and why not, the more the merrier I say.

It’s best to use the rocket in a large open area away from trees and as it’s very light.  Avoid setting it off on days it’s windy or you are likely to lose it.

I loved that this helped me get the children outside and away from tv screens and ipads.  It’s a fantastic way to get them exercising whilst having an amazing time.

So know you know what we thought of the Airhogs Rocket, what do you think of it?  Is this something you’d enjoy?
