Visiting Torremolinos: What You Need To Know!

As a child I was fortunate enough to visit numerous places when holidaying.  One of the destinations we frequented was Torremolinos in the Costa Del Sol in Southern Spain.  Torremolinos is an extremely popular site for holiday makers with fabulous fresh food, great beaches (it’s well known for these), plenty to see and friendly locals.  It’s a great place for taking a well earned break whether it’s an adult only holiday or a family holiday.

What You Need To Know

The climate is great here.  There is plenty of sun all through the year and the temperature is generally around 18 degrees or higher.

It’s not an expensive destination to visit.  You can book apartments or hotels depending on your budget.  All inclusive options are available in some hotels but be warned if you go for these you won’t be able to experience some of the fantastic authentic cuisine served in many of the surrounding restaurants.

There are plenty of great beaches for the whole family to enjoy with nearby beach bars and restaurants should you need to refuel.  The beaches are cleaned daily too making them clean and inviting.  Sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired by the day.  The waters are clear and if you look carefully you might see small fish swimming very close to the sea shore.

There are numerous activities for adults / families to do during the day.  For those that would like to know more about these I will be writing future posts with more information for activities for children and adults.

Most people there speak English although locals of Spanish descent appreciate visitors making an effort to attempt to communicate in their language.  It’s not hard, simply pick up a Spanish dictionary and away you go.  You might make a total mess of it and it could have hilarious results but then it’s worth it as store owners are far more likely to make an effort to help – been there done that!

Most areas are pushchair friendly which helps when you have babies or are going out for a walk with toddlers.

There is plenty of nightlife you will be spoilt for choice with the number of bars and restaurants and nightclubs that are open during the busy season.

They have some great food to be sampled.  You will be spoilt for choice with all the restaurants located in Torremolinos.  My suggestion would be to look for where the locals go to find the tastiest, freshest foods for the best prices.  You might want to try out a Chiringuito which are often found on the beach and make some of the best dishes you will experience on your trip (or at least most of the time).  Avoid chains / fast food places which you will of course find back at home.  Visiting another country can be a great way to discover new flavours and eating gorgeous fresh foods as well as get inspiration for recipes for when you return home.

The Spanish have a super sophisticated sense of style and their shops are full of beautiful and trendy clothes, perfect for fashionistas.  Make sure you visit one of the local boutiques for some gorgeous outfits.

As with many popular tourist locations you will need to be weary of pickpockets.

So there you have it, a brief yet concise overview of what you will need to know when visiting Torremolinos in Spain.  I have a few more posts in the pipeline, I’m hoping some of you find these useful for your future travels.

I’d love it if you left a comment and try to respond to all.  Have you been to Torremolinos yet?  Is it on your list of places to visit?

In Addition

Castellon an area often overlooked by some tourist but steeped in history and known for its numerous fine sandy beaches and great food is another great place to visit and if you pop over to http://www.flydriveexplore.com/destinations/why-you-should-visit-castellon-spain/ you can read all about it and drool over the foodie photos like I did.
