The Benefits of Solid Wood Flooring

#ad

As my regular readers will know, I am partial to solid wood flooring.  Not only does it look stunning it is also ideal for a wide range of rooms.  It is one of our favourite go tos when renovating a home for rental and a must in our own home.  Let’s face it who doesn’t love wooden floors, they’re a great selling point and can attract more prospective tenants easily.  The popularity of solid wood has skyrocketed recently and most of us now have wooden floors somewhere in our homes.

Let’s look at why it is so popular with so many households.

Why is Solid Wood Flooring so Popular?

Durability

Although most materials used in modern flooring are on the whole very durable, solid wood is always ahead of the rest. If you watch those home renovation projects like my husband and I, you will have seen that many manor houses have wooden flooring.  The reason is that they often last a considerable amount of time in comparison to some other types of flooring. If you do have wooden floors in your home it’s unlikely you will ever have to change them!

A common concern a lot of us have is whether solid wood can cope with lots of use and foot traffic. The answer is yes! Solid wood is actually recommended in rooms that see the highest amounts of footfall such as the hallway.  Although all solid wood is very durable, the finish on it can increase its resilience. For example, a high lacquered gloss will give more protection than an oiled finish. Ultimately, your solid wood flooring will last a long time so chose a finish that you like the most.

Appearance

Although it is important to consider a flooring materials’ endurance and maintenance, we also need to choose one that we like the look of.  Solid wood in a room looks stunning and can really add to the look and feel of a room.  It gives the home a touch of warmth and an air of luxury.

We all know wood comes in many different wood types, plank sizes, arrangements and colours.  It’s great there is so much choice meaning there really is something for everyone. For those that like the rustic look then oak with knots will work well.  Walnut is recommended to give a traditional and expensive look whereas herringbone trumps them all when it comes to wow factor!

Maintenance

As with any floor you will need to take some degree of care.  Spares2You has an excellent range of parts for Dyson vacuums and Vax steam cleaners, to help keep your flooring well maintained.  Sometimes accidents happen and damage may occur whether it’s scratches, stains, or water damage.  For obvious reasons, people tend not to use wooden flooring in bathrooms and kitchens.  These rooms are better suited to Luxury Vinyl Tiles or laminate and solid wood being more suitable in the living room or hallway.

If the unthinkable does happen and your wooden floor is damaged then it’s not the end of the world.  The great news is that wooden floors can be restored to their former glory by being sanded down and refinished.  Obviously, make sure you use a reputable company to do this.  You can do this more than once depending on the thickness of the wood.

I have a large amount of wood flooring and love it. It looks great and is so hard wearing. I have dogs so this is important. Although it gets the odd scuff or scratch, it still looks great.

I think solid wood flooring is such a great and practical choice when it comes to flooring! Unfortunately we rent so our hands are tied on what flooring we have. However when we have our own home solid wood flooring is definitely a choice we would consider, especially for higher traffic areas!

we’ve bought engineered wood for our house as we know there’s a thick enough solid wood layer at the top so it will be super durable. I can’t wait to see it go down x

Solid wood flooring definitely has plenty of benefits. I would definitely have it if I owned the property I am in now rather than renting it.

Ooh, yes, solid wood flooring looks gorgeous and is a sound investment. I bought wood veneer and, although it looks lovely, it is definitely not durable. I will be buying solid wood next time.
