Make the Most of Limited Space in Your Home

Declutter

Decluttering regularly makes the job so much easier than if you put it off for months on end. These months soon turn into years and you end up with a feat that causes anxiety at the mere mention. It helps to be organised when it comes to decluttering. A regular once over keeps down mess and also keeps you sane. Be ruthless when getting rid of old clothes. If it’s not fit for a few years, the likelihood is it isn’t going to be worth keeping. Plus, if you make plenty of room you can fit a few new pieces so it’s a win-win situation.

Go Minimalistic

Some people seem to try to cram as much furniture as they can into one small space. It doesn’t often work well for them, taking up a considerable amount of valuable and limited space. Instead, opt for what you actually need and can fit in your home. By having the home look minimalistic not only does it look much better it also has a positive effect on your mental health. It can help to relax the mind, and with the pressures of daily life that can be most welcome.

Reduce the Number of Items on the Floor

A cluttered floor is not a good look in a home. It’s important to think about how items will be positioned within the home. Does the tv really need to be propped on top of a table or stand? Having a tv mounted on a wall can free up space below and make a room look far less cluttered. Shelving units don’t need to be floor-standing. It can look quite nice to have floating shelves to store books for example. Try adding in a few fake or real plants and a pretty candle or two for a more aesthetic look.

Think Smart When Buying Furniture

I have loads of things literally neatly crammed into boxes in my bedroom. These are gifts for people’s birthdays and Christmas as I like to buy them well in advance. But, you can’t see them!!! It’s pretty deceptive as my room looks nice and tidy. We thought ahead when buying furniture and made sure we bought an ottoman bed. This has been pretty amazing. I have filled my side and my husband has filled his too. This allows boxes to be safely tucked away out of sight.

Murphy beds are also a great option as they have shelves underneath the bed. The space with these is far more limited though. These are great for clothing. Store clothes here to reduce the amount of space needed in wardrobes so you can also use those for boxing up and storing clutter around the home when not needed.

Make Sure You Have Enough Furniture

Being minimalistic can be good but don’t go overboard. You’ll need to allow plenty of storage space for all your clothing and other items. One thing I’ve learnt from being in the property business and owning my own home is that you can never have enough storage. Allow for this when refurbishing and adding wardrobes and cupboards.

It makes sense for those moving home to make use of a self storage facility whilst work is being done and to allow you to get a feel for which items to go where without the pressure. You can hire these for as long as you need to so you don’t have to worry about being tied down to a fixed amount of time. Then you can decide if you want to keep everything or keep some items and sell others.

These are some of the best ways you can Make the Most of Limited Space in Your Home. Do you have any suggestions you might like to add? If not, which of those mentioned do you do in your home?

I dislike staying in a cluttered environment, because it has a negative impact on my mental health. I enjoy putting a few pieces of furniture and decorations in a room, and giving away items that I no longer need, such as clothes. You never know how a clutter-free environment will affect your mind until you find yourself in one.

I have recently re-organised my living room. I took most of the things off the shelves and only left a few photo frames and a couple of plants. I bought a tv stand with spaces for boxes underneath, and I’ve put all the clutter from the shelves in there. Now my living room looks so much spacious.
