I’ve just received a blast from the past in the post from Bandai.  Yes that’s Bandai!!!  The company that normally brings us action figures, model kits and licensed toys have now been appointed the distributor of a nostalgic Japanese brand.

   This new product was extremely popular from even before I was born.  What is it?  Do you remember Monchhichi also known as Chicaboo?  They were the Japanese monkey dolls that came dressed in all sorts of weird and wonderfully cute outfits.  Making their first appearance in 1974 they soon became the must have toy of the 1980’s.  This “human like” doll was able to suck its thumb and I actually remember as a child moving the arm around of my like monkey friend and popping it in its mouth.

  Where my little friend from all those years ago is now I sadly can’t say but I am pleased to have been sent some of the new collection that is now available.  The second my youngest daughter saw them she was in love and wanted both.  She decided to keep them in the box as it was bedtime and she gave them a kiss goodnight before falling asleep.

They had their own special place next to her bed.  Both feel asleep sucking their thumbs.  Aren’t they adorable with their big squishy cheeks and big eyes.

  These little guys have the cutest faces and some equally cute outfits.  The great thing about them is that you can change their little outfits and they are highly collectable and prized by children and collectors alike.  Bandai is looking forward to introducing them to a new generation of fans.  They have a range of these cute little monkeys available from keyrings to large cuddly ones that are 80cm tall so that our little monkeys are spoilt for choice.

  The range is available from a number of toy suppliers including Argos and The Entertainer.

It never occurred to me until I was sent the Monchhichi that my son bears an uncanny resemblance to the dolls, what do you think?
