Little Unicorn Discovers the Dinosaurs

We were gifted a copy of the Little Unicorn Discovers the Dinosaurs book for the purpose of this review. All opinions are our own.

Reading with Your Child

Encouraging children to read from a young age is important.  In order to do this, it is necessary to find something that they want to read, something that inspires them and captures their imagination.  To help you discover new books look at your child’s interests for inspiration for book topics.  If this fails to inspire you, consider speaking with other mums about the books their children enjoy.

My son is dinosaur mad so a book about dinosaurs will obviously be of interest.  Children naturally also love unicorns, as do many adults I should add!  The combination of the two creatures makes the book appeal to a much wider audience.  As you can imagine, it’s now been read on numerous occasions and is one of my son’s favourite books.

About the Book, Little Unicorn Discovers the Dinosaurs

The book is the brainchild of mother and daughter Ladey and Abbirose Adey.  Abbirose is a qualified primary school teacher and has designed the book to be suitable for ages 2 to 8 and key stages 1 and 2.  Something she has clearly accomplished.  The book is beautifully decorated and takes you on an adventure from when a baby dinosaur hatches to finding its mother.  After the story ends the fun still continues.  You can test your child to see what they remember and there are also prompts to use to help you discuss the story with your child.  Who doesn’t want to help their children get a head start with comprehension skills!!! There are some great dinosaur jokes your little one can share with friends, information about the dinosaurs in the story and colouring in pages.

What Did We Think?

Beautifully illustrated, this will appeal to children’s imaginations.  The book size is good for smaller children.  They can hold it whilst having it read making them feel included in the activity.  My son felt like a big boy holding his book and pronouncing the words.

It is a perfect bedtime read for children and is great for any dinosaur and unicorn lovers.  We loved that this appeals to both boys and girls and even my older daughters listened as I sat on the bed reading the story.  The story is lovely with acts of kindness and full of interesting facts about different dinosaurs.  My son enjoyed spotting the different dinosaurs, telling me the names of the ones he knew and learning new names and about the foods each one ate.  The book is a great tool to teach children as you travel along with the characters.

It’s also a great excuse to spend time with your little one doing something fun, creating good memories and strengthening your bond.
