GoldieBlox, the American award winning toy range has finally made it to the UK.  Totally unique to any toy that you can currently find in the toy aisles GoldieBlox aims to introduce girls to engineering concepts from a young age.  This interesting and fun girl’s game idea was the brainchild of engineer and entrepreneur Debbie Sterling.  With only a small percentage of females going into engineering yet this and technology being the two fastest growing fields it makes sense to encourage our daughters to maintain an interest in these areas.

GoldieBlox and the Spinning Machine (£24.99)

The game consists of an interactive toy made up of a book and construction set.  It encourages children to build in the context of a narrative.

The stories follow a girl inventor called Goldie who solves problems by building machines.

Firstly a lesson in working as a team.  The girls worked together to follow the instructions within the book and fast enough they were building items that would move with the ribbon provided.

It then gets a little more complicated yet it got them thinking about what they were doing and the postion that the various pins and wheels would need to be in in order for the wheels to move.

As you can see the girls had a wonderful time playing with this great new educational game and we still have a few more of the machines to make as they decided to try and create their own which kept the entertained for ages.  This is wonderful for stimulating their creative side and also logical thinking.  I love that there is something that is available that is attractive to girls but also that bit different.  Of course this not just for girls, boys will also love creating the 16 designs that come in this box.

There are other products available in the range all of which can be found at Amazon.  These include GoldieBlox and the Parade Float (£19.99) and GoldieBlox and the Dunk Tank (19.99)
