Ways to Reduce Stress

Collaborative post. Stress is a problem that many of us are experiencing in today’s society. It can be defined as an unpleasant state of mental or emotional strain, which can lead to physical changes in the body. The effects of stress on the body vary. Stress affects both physical and mental health and it can stem from a full range of areas in your personal, social, and work life. It’s important to consider ways to reduce Stress and incorporate them into your daily routine.

Ways to Reduce Stress

Identify The Cause of the Stress

Stress can be caused by many different things. These may be financial, due to a bad relationship, due to issues at work etc. The most common cause of stress is debt. Debt can lead to a lot of anxiety and worry for those who are struggling with it especially if they see no way out. It’s important to not let the stress get out of control. You may need to seek help with bailiffs if it’s serious or find suitable ways to manage your finances better.

Another common cause of stress is toxic relationships. This may be with a partner or a friend. You may feel trapped in a relationship and feel there is no way out. Couples counseling may be of value in some cases to help you talk about the things causing stress. It can help you both identify and take steps to stop negative behaviour.

How Stress Can Negatively Impact Your Life

Stress is a natural part of life. It can make your day difficult, and it can even stop you from achieving your goals. Stress can affect your ability to sleep, your mood, fertility, blood pressure, depression, it even affects the appearance of your skin etc. As it can have a considerable impact on both our mental and physical health it is important to find ways to try to reduce and relieve stress.

What Can You Do To Reduce Stress

Activities on Your Own

Think about things you enjoy doing. What helps distract you and make you happy. It could be as simple as sitting and reading a book, listening to music or watching a movie. You might have wanted to take up knitting or quilting. Well, here’s your chance.  You might even want to get creative and draw or paint or even make different crafts. There are numerous activities that would be perfect to relieve stress that you can do on your own.

Group Activities

We all enjoy going out for drinks or even meals with friends at restaurants or each other’s homes. This could become a regular event and is a great way to break up the month and give you something to look forward to. Fancy something different, then try an escape room or a ghost walk, or anything else the group might enjoy.

Exercise

Exercise is well documented as a stress reliever and can be good fun too. You don’t need to go to the gym or do aerobic classes. You could play football or tennis with friends. It all depends on personal preference. Swimming and yoga are both easy forms of exercise that are popular too. A walk in the country side or a local park can be lovely and make a big difference to how you feel.

Meditation

Meditation has been shown to help with anxiety, depression, and stress management. There are many different types of meditation so you can find the one or ones that suit you best. Some options include; mindfulness meditation, movement meditation and visualisation meditation.

Massage

You could even have a massage to help work out some of those knots that have built up from stress and help ease tension in your back, shoulders and neck. Massage can be very relaxing and help soothe your mind. Combine that with gentle activities before bed such as reading and it may help encourage a restful night’s sleep.
