Preventing Head Lice

I was mortified to discover over half term that my little ones had caught head lice from another child in their school.  Worst of all we had run out of our Vosene Kids 3 in 1 shampoo.  Why would that matter you may ask, well here is why.  This shampoo cleanses, conditions and acts as a deterrent to head lice due to the tea tree oil and lemon eucalyptus oils it contains. If we had been using it regularly this traumatic experience could have easily been prevented.  Luckily Vosene Kids had come to the rescue with a package of goodies amongst which was the shampoo that we really needed.

Take a look at this video to see the goodies they sent us:

Mummy having discovered this great product in the box added in some extra pure tea tree essential oil for good measure.  It did the trick as I found that the few adult lice were well and truly dead by the time I checked as we had left this in for a little while to be on the safe side – don’t mess with mummy is all I have to say!  The only problem was that the teeth of the head lice comb were not close enough together to remove the eggs so I had to remove them manually – an experience I am not planning on repeating any time soon although I am now an expert at this.

There was also a Conditioning Defence spray which works along side the aforementioned shampoo as well as with the other ones in the range.  We love using this and it helps make the hair so much easier to brush and gives it a beautiful shine too.

(Mr Squishy has ants in his pants and simply can’t keep still so this was the clearest picture I was able to get of my little star with the spray.)

For those wanting some advice on preventing head lice why not pop over to the Vosene Kids site and take a look.

Vosene Kids products are gentle enough to use on children’s hair and work well on adult hair too and the proof is in the using.  Both my husband and I have both used their products and love the various aromas and how they leave our hair looking and feeling.

I always think about how much of a stressful event this could be if I ever got lice. I would compare it to my dog getting fleas, lol!

    1. admin

Lol, either way you won’t be happy ;-

  2. Erin

This is definitely super helpful! As a former teacher, I dealt with this all the time, so I appreciate the post! Thanks for sharing!

    1. admin

No problem Erin. Glad you liked it.

  3. Lily

I’ll keep this in mind if my brothers class reports having head lice so we can prevent them 🙂

    1. admin

You might like to try the products they are lovely.

  4. Suzy McCullough

I think it’s something any Mum dreads…as much as we dread chicken pox. Actually give me chicken pox over these little blighters. yuk! I shall take note now of this shampoo thanks

    1. admin

These are horrible to have and not fun to try and get rid of either.

  5. Kathy Myers

I was stunned to learn at the school I taught at they were no longer sending kids home when they had lice, this was a disaster as staff and others were exposed.

    1. admin

That’s a shame it is a really nuisance to get rid of them. Try using the product mentioned as that will make them avoid your hair!

  6. Sarah Bailey

What an experience to have to go through! I have heard that the little buggers are quite persistent and tough to get rid of, so it’s a good thing you knew to use Vosene Kids products! I’m sure that having to pick the eggs out manually was quite a time-consuming experience!

    1. admin

OMG it took forever. It was horrible.

  7. Welsh Cakes and Wellies

So far we have been luck! But I like the sound of the preventative shampoo, good idea!

    1. admin

It sure is and I need to remember to stock up on it.

  8. Noblandmakeup

I swear lice have an attraction for children’s heads. I remember in school we had lice checks every couple months. There was always someone, and they were always sent home.

    1. admin

I think it’s good that the school kept an eye on that. Ours tell us if someone has it and we need to check.

  9. Ali Rost

Oh dear .. head lice is so awful. Last year my grandson brought some home from his preschool and my daughter had a heck of a time getting rid of them. I felt so bad. She could shave my grandson’s head .. but her own was another story with her long, pretty (and thick!) hair.

    1. admin

I can imagine. It’s hard work getting rid of them.

  10. jessica woods

I just hte the parents who don’t do their kids hairs my little one school has even said they can’t directly ring a parent to say their child has them as it could be classed as bullying and discrimination absolutely ridiculous

    1. admin

That is really bad as they don’t always check when they are told “someone” in the class has it.

  11. Claudia Blanton

well, I am glad that there is a product out there for the prevention of lice, which apparently is a big problem. I have always homeschooled my children, and they have thankfully not ever been exposed to any of those problems, many school children face. How disgusting! Glad you found something useful!

    1. admin

Me too it really is a great help.

  12. Anmaria Djong

Ohh..i better write down the name of this shampoo as you never know when do you need them. Its so easy to spread it among the school kids. Love to know that it works well.

    1. admin

It does work well as a preventive so grab some quick!!!!!!

  13. stephanie

I was lucky enough to never catch lice at school but I can imagine how horrible it can be x

    1. admin

It really isn’ a good thing to have to deal with that’s for sure.

  14. Fashion and Style Police

Oh head lice does scare me. I hope my kids never get it. Good you know how to tackle the issue.

    1. admin

These work as a wonderful preventative.

  15. Helen

This brings back memories of my parents having to try and get rid of my headlice! My daughter isn’t at school yet, so we don’t have this issue but am anticipating it being a pain.

    1. admin

Oh dear, I really hope you manage to avoid them.

  16. Jen

A great idea for a giveaway for any of us parents out there. Headlice are the things of nightmares, but quite dealable with the right products. My girls are now grown up, but when they were at school, they had hair down to their behinds, and it was a dreaded thing to get the letter home informing that someone in their class had lice. Now I’ve entered the realms of first school again with my little boy, so I expect there will be a letter at some point in the near future. Just glad there are affordable products out there now that really help.

    1. admin

I would get hold of some of these products so that you don’t need to worry about him catching them.

  17. Foteini K

Ahhh my childhood nightmare. We had a girl in my elementary school who had ALWAYS lice. My mom used petrol on my head to get rid of them that days :/ That wasn’t really healthy..
    xoxo ♥

    1. admin

Wow that definitely would have killed the lice. Glad we don’t need to do that.

  18. Musings of a tired mummy...zzz...

My son caught nits at preschool about 4 years ago. Since then we nit comb all of us every week!

    1. admin

That is a good idea although I don’t have the time to do that myself.

  19. Jemma

Headlice can be such a nuisance, Vosene do some really great products, glad to hear it’s good for prevention 🙂

    1. admin

They do a great job at prevention which helps.

  20. Melanie

I do not have children, but great post for those that do and need such a great informative post 🙂 x

    1. admin

Now you now what to do to prevent them.

    2. admin

Now you know how to prevent them 😉

  21. Carrie@thelavenderhytta

This sounds like a great product! I use a tea tree oil spray to help keep them away! It works like a charm.

    1. admin

The lice don’t lice Tea tree so I am sure that it would work very well.

  22. Debbie Nicholas

We went through a stage where we just couldn’t get rid of them! We were treating like mad but obviously other parents weren’t and the school policy is not to let parents know now as it victimises the kids ffs!!

    1. admin

OMG seriously? but that is ridiculous. They should alternatively just send out a letter saying there are nits and treat the children to cover the class. That way there is no victimisation.

  23. Rahul Khurana

I remember me and my cousins too during their childhood had this problem. Our mums used to pluck it and massage our hair with all sorts of oil back then. There are so many new products in the market to prevent this now.

    1. admin

There are a range of products to treat them but I’ not sure if there are any others that help prevent.

  24. Elizabeth O.

I’ve only one experience with lice and I never want to experience it again. I think it’s awesome that we now have products like this to rely on!

    1. admin

It’s horrible isn’t it. I didn’t find it a pleasant experience trying to get rid of them.

  25. Carol Cassara

Back in the day there were less choices for things that will help you prevent lice. It’s so cool that you can rely on a product like this to protect your kids from getting lice!

    1. admin

This is a great product for avoiding lice in children’s hair and adults too.

  26. Lindsey

What a great brand. I have a young daughter who attends preschool and I am dreading the day she comes home with headlice!

    1. admin

It’s not fun, your best bet is prevention.

  27. Erica @ Black Bloggers Network

This was a really great product review. Anyone looking to get avoid lice should take your advice and check it out. Thanks for sharing!

    1. admin

No problem, they do seem to work well.

  28. danasia fantastic

I love that they use tea tree oil! It’s the cure for everything!

    1. admin

I do love Tea Tree it is a lovely oil.

  29. Elena

I work as a teacher and every time a kid has lice I have them. I will share this post with their moms 🙂

    1. admin

It’s important to warn parents even if they are just taking preventive measures.

  30. The London Mum

I never knew vosene did a range which helps to prevent head lice… I’ll need to get some I don’t want to be dealing with lice if I can help it!

    1. admin

I don’t blame you. I wish I had not run out of these products as it could have been avoided.

  31. tanya brannan

Oh I remember the hell of head lice really well. My daughters hairs were past their bottoms and it used to take hours to check through. I am so glad that there are products that can help with this chore!

    1. admin

We did have a hair cut when I discovered our new pets as it made it so much easier to brush through their hair.

  32. Catvills

It is so frustrating to see that your child comes home from school with head lice! It is great that there are products available to help address the issue and in an easy to use shampoo form. I will let my cousins know about this. They have little children who may be vulnerable of getting head lice.

    1. admin

These would be perfect for them to prevent them catching head lice.

  33. Rachel Craig

I really like the sound of Vosene what a great brand.

    1. admin

They do have some lovely products with great scents.

  34. Mal @ intothecity.me

Well I don’t really have kids yet but I will keep that in mind for when I do. It’s crazy how kids catch that at school, I think there has to be done something with mass hygiene in there!

    1. admin

Interestingly it’s not about hygiene which many think but the Vosene products in the post act as a great preventative.

  35. Yeu Doi

Great post! Prevention is better than cure. Great tips – thank you!

    1. admin

It sure is as they are a nuisance and not very nice to have in your hair.

  36. Ashleigh

I remember my little sister used to get head lice in school from her friends. It’s such a pain!

    1. admin

It’s a traumatic experience getting them out. They are best prevented.

  37. Tamsin

Ugh headlice are awful. Thankfully, despite being at nursery 4 days a week, my son has never caught them. The nursery rarely ever gets breakouts thank goodness. Glad to hear the Vosene works.

    1. admin

It does work very well we didn’t get any when we were using it.

  38. Hayley Warren

My mom works in a nursery and is constantly having to do treatments to make sure she avoids head lice! I’ll have to recommend this to her!

    1. admin

It works as a repellent so should help.

  39. Whatlauraloves

Great to find out more on how to prevent head lice. I had them once when I was younger and there was such a stigma attached to it xxx

    1. admin

It’s not so bad now thankfully as they seem to have it at schools all the time.

  40. Lilinha

Luckily little man has never had head lice before, but I am sure he will one day, as children usually do!

    1. admin

I’d try these products as they can help keep them away.

  41. Thena

We just fought this in our house as well!! It is such a battle, but good advice!

    1. admin

It is a nightmare and preventatives are a great idea.

  42. Jennifer L

Oh wow these Vosene products looks so incredible. Friends of mine are parents and they definitely will be needing to check this line out, especially with their kids going to childcare.

    1. admin

They sure will it really does work well as a preventative.

  43. Kara

Ahhhh I hate nits. We use vosene too and do a check once a week. No sign so far this year thankfully

    1. admin

Me too!!!! I need to remember to check more often.

  44. Angela Milnes

Wow, this is sounds like a beautiful product glad you share this good review

    1. admin

This is really good and leaves the hair looking and smelling great.

  45. Jo Carroll

Great tip about the eucalyptus and tea tree oil…have to remember that one. x

  46. Yaya

I had heard that there was nothing you could to prevent them, but it’s good to know there are options! We had a bit of an epidemic last year, and it was a nightmare! One twin got them and as soon as she was sorted out the other suddenly picked them up, it was a nightmare!

    1. admin

Certain oils act like a repellent and the lice don’t like it. It’s like when they use citronella to repel mosquitoes.

  47. Becca Talbot

My mum used to use a cat’s flea comb on my hair once a week on a Sunday, to check for lice and eggs. I only ever recall having them once! x

    1. admin

I bet that did the trick though as it is good to keep on top of it.

  48. Ana De- Jesus

Shame about the comb but it sounds like the rest of the products were effective at getting rid of the lice. I had a badge when I was younger that helped x

    1. admin

The comb was one I had from ages ago. I must see if I can get one that has the teeth closer together.

  49. Stephanie

We love these products, they have always helped us keep nits away

    1. admin

They do a great job at that 😉

  50. Rachel Craig

Great prize. Have used Vosene 3 -in – 1shampoo for the family. The conditioning spray sounds great, new product.

    1. admin

It is a really good product. The spray works well too.

  51. Dusica (Didi)

Lice?! OMG this is very unpleasant situation both for the parents and the children. As a child, my mom used a special shampoo and comb, and also some kind of very stinky oil that our grandparents used a long time ago.

    1. admin

We had something like that too when I was little, the Vosene products are much nicer.

  52. Theresa Alison

Used to hate it when my daughter caught them has she has thick frizzy hair but then got in the habit of using teatree conditioner and not fully washing it out as nits hate going by hair that smells of teatree but it worked she hasnt had them again xx

    1. admin

It is a nuisance especially when the hair is thicker. I think it’s better to be safe than sorry and the smell of tea tree isn’t that bad 😉

  53. Rachel Butler

Thankfully my son hasn’t caught head lice as yet…..even though it’s been rife at his school for a while!! I haven’t used this range before, but so glad I read this review!! xo

    1. admin

I’d get some if it’s at the school it does help prevent them catching headlice.
