Pizza is one of those super simple dishes that you can make from scratch at home and children can get involved too. It’s a shame in this day and age children seem to be in the kitchen far less choosing instead to sit staring at a tv, phone or ipad for entertainment. It’s also shocking how many don’t know where the most commonly eaten fruits and veg come from. Parents, here is your chance to spend time having fun at home with your children, educate them and also get them to make their own dinner all in one go. Making pizzas can be a great activity for children plus it is multi-functional. Not only is it super fun but it also teaches children about the food making process and what is involved, gives them a sense of achievement when they have created their own food and allows them to experiment with different flavours.
Recently we made pizzas during a playdate. I made the dough in advance whilst the children were at school allowing it to prove and then each got to flatten out their dough and select their toppings.
Once the children were home and ready to eat we grabbed our dough and got started.
Here is our recipe for homemade children’s Margaretta pizzas and pepperoni pizzas.
The full dough portion makes 1 large pizza or 4 mini pizzas. I have combined white and wholemeal flour to make it that bit healthier.
Want to try it yourself? Here is the recipe:
For the Base
150g strong plain white flour
100g wholemeal flour
6g yeast
5g salt
30ml olive oil
180ml water
Toppings
Approx. 6tbs Tomato puree shared between 4 pizzas
Approx. 60g – 80g mature cheddar cheese (shared between 4 pizzas)
Pepperoni you decide how much
Method
Combine the base ingredients and set aside in a warm place for a few hours. If I am making pizza for my children, then I will make it when they are at school and finish it off when they get home.
When you are ready to make the pizza divide the dough into 4 equal parts. I halved mine as we did two at a time.
Spread the tomato puree over the pizzas (1.5tsp each pizza more if required).
Sprinkle over the cheese (each of the 4 gets 15-20g more if required).
Add pepperoni if you are using it and then cook at 200 degrees in a fan oven for 8-12 minutes.
Serve hot!

Pizza Making is such a brilliant activity to do with your kids – I love that their various tastes can be incorporated easily. Not one of my 3 girls likes the same pizza toppings as their sisters. Your kids look like they are well and truly loving their pizzas!
It looks like they had a great time making their own and they look so tasty. We tried using a cheese scone mix as a base and they were lovely too x

That’s why I love making pizza – I can put whatever my cravings say, like how much cheese. Haha. Great to see how the little girls enjoy making and eating pizzas! 🙂
This is a great idea. My eldest toddler has tried pizza making & enjoyed it, though the youngest hasn’t had a go yet. &, of course, they both love pizzas too – bread, cheese and tomatoes are some of their favourite things, so what’s not to love!
Pizza making with kids is so fun, my neice loves adding a little bit more of this and a little more of that.
Looks like a really good recipe too!
I am SUCH a pizza addict, but I rarely make my own from scratch. Really should do it more often, these look yummy!
My girls love pizza and would really enjoy this. I cheat a lot in that I don’t make the base myself. I use a bread stick and make French bread pizza instead. I need to get brave.
they look tasty, we have never made our own base
