There has been a large growth in the popularity of natural based, cruelty free and environmentally friendly beauty products.  I was lucky to discover a company that creates these types of products earlier this Pure Potions when I reviewed some of their lovely products.

This company produces products that use natural ingredients rather than the synthetic harsh products that some still insist on using within their formulas.  Pure potions hair and scalp products are suitable for people who have dry, itchy, flaky and sensitive scalps.  They can also be used by those prone to eczema, dermatitis and psoriasis on their scalp.  The products do not contain perfumes, parabens, SLS, SLES or petrochemicals.  Pure potions products are fully loaded with ingredients that are guaranteed to improve the look and condition of the hair.

The shampoo (200ml) has a mix of herbal tinctures including nettle (promotes healthy hair growth), calendula (anti-inflammatory, healing), chamomile (anti bacterial, anti-inflammatory) and chickweed (nutrient rich and helps soothe itching).  They use natural preservatives in the form of natural herbal extracts and essential oils honeysuckle, sweet basil, clove and lemongrass – these give the shampoo a fresh citrusy aroma.  The shampoo is made using plant-based biodegradable cleansers.  The cleansers that gently lift dirt and grease from the hair, without stripping the natural oils from the skin or irritating the scalp.  This means you avoid the resulting flakiness and dryness associated with synthetic detergents.  The surfactants (work as emulsifiers and foaming agents) they use are made from raw materials of natural origin (sugar, soy, castor oil, corn and coconut) which respect the Earth as much as they care for your hair and mean that their Natural Shampoo is a product that is 99.9% natural!  How many other companies can claim to do that?  I doubt there will be many.

The conditioner (200ml) is also of 99% natural origins and is specially formulated for those with dry, sensitive or allergy-prone scalps.  It is designed to nourish sensitive scalps with deeply hydrating and nutrient-rich organic hemp seed oil (rich in Omegas 3 & 6) and their special blend of biodynamic herbal tinctures: calendula, chamomile, nettle and chickweed.  It also contains growth-boosting argenine (an a-amino acid that is used in the biosynthesis of proteins) and oatmeal which left my hair feeling silky and also providing intense yet gentle nourishment.  My hair was easier to brush through after using this prior to styling.

I will add I used a cheap basic brand from a supermarket before trying out this product to help me judge the difference and improvement this product would give.

I like the packaging for the shampoo and conditioner.  The front of tubes front are not overloaded with information.  Turn the tube over and you will find everything you need to know.

The first time I used the shampoo I wasn’t sure how much to use.  That’s normal though as each product is different and you will find with some that you need to use more of the product than with others.  The shampoo doesn’t lather up as much on the first use as some other shampoos.  It doesn’t mean it hasn’t done the job required it’s just that many of us are used to shampoos that lather up a fair amount.  Want a heavy lather than wash twice although you will find this isn’t necessary.  The amount of conditioner you will need will also be less than normal.  As with all conditioners I applied it, rubbed it in to my hair and put my hair up for 5-6 minutes before washing it out.

The shampoo and conditioner are not just for those with dry irritated skin and skin conditions these work well on all hair types. After the first use my hair felt soft, looked shiny and was easy to style and looked good for a fair few days too.  It was even better after then next use.  I loved the aroma which wasn’t overpowering and smelt natural.  This is one of those products you are guaranteed to love and is going to get you compliments.  The first day I used these I was going out with friends for dinner and they were clearly impressed by the results as they wanted a photo of the products so they could get hold of some too!

Do you like to use natural beauty products on you skin and hair or are you not too fussed about what you use?

  1. Oh this sounds great! I find some shampoos make my hair a bit greasy but I’m sure with it being more natural it’d be great xx

  2. These look and sound really nice. I like how natural ingredients are used. I would like to try this, but perhaps just one as £18 for 200ml is a little steep for me. Hopefully these ones will help my scalp as I’ve tried Head and Shoulders and it doesn’t seem to work for me

  7. Oh I got the email about this too and was wondering when I’d see some reviews popping up. My concern was with the lathering, which I know you’ve commented on too. I find it a common trait of natural and low soap shampoos.

    1. I think it’s just that people are not used to products not lathering. They can always do a second wash although it isn’t actually necessary.

  8. Its lovely to find products that use natural ingredients! Some of the best hair products are the ones that don’t lather and use oils, so we wouldn’t be put off by it x

  10. Pure Potions sound lovely. I do like products without SLS, but it is odd getting used to the less frothy feel of them. Certainly a brand to look out for.
