The Best Attractions in Wales
Wales has an abundance of things to do and see. It’s the perfect place for a family holiday, or a couples holiday if you can find someone to look after your little monsters, or haven’t got any dependents to worry about. You could even visit Cardiff on a day trip from London. Let’s take a look at some of the great attractions you’ll find there.
Cardiff Castle
One of the best attractions in Wales has to be Cardiff Castle. This is an extremely popular tourist hotspot. Enter this mediaeval castle to discover 2000 years of history. Kids will love climbing the various levels of the keep and you’re guaranteed some great views. You’ll find gargoyles on the castle walls and there are secret tunnels. The rooms in the castle are truly spectacular and something that needs to be seen. Make your visit that bit more magical and visit during Christmas when the castle grounds are decorated with fairy lights and there is also an ice rink for the whole family to enjoy.
Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo
A fun day out for all the family. Folly Farm has plenty for the whole family to enjoy. They have over 750 animals in their zoo including lions, penguins, giraffes, rhinos, and more. Visit the Jolly Barn and get up close to sheep, lambs, ferrets, donkeys, goats, and more. As if that wasn’t enough, they also have a themed adventure park and a vintage fairground to make sure the little tikes are exhausted by the time you leave from all the fun they’ve had.

Looking for a free activity that the whole family will enjoy? Then you will want to make sure you pay Pembrey Country Park and Beach a visit. Here, you will not only find an award-winning golden sandy beach, there you will also discover a dry ski slope, toboggan ride, crazy golf, train rides, adventure play area, a variety of beautiful nature trails. There is also a cafe there so don’t worry if you forget to bring a picnic hamper.

At Cardiff Bay, you are within short walking distance of famous landmarks. These include the Millennium Centre, Cardiff Castle, and Principality Stadium.
Portmeirion
Portmeirion is a tourist village in North Wales that was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975. This was built in the Baroque style and has a Mediterranean feel to it. There are a range of nooks to explore between shops and also some great cafes to refuel at. This is the location where the cult tv series The Prisoner was filmed. As a result, they have plenty of themed merchandise. You’ll find this doesn’t take long to walk around so make sure you also look out for the gardens and the tree trail on the woodland walk.
Snowdonia National Park
This is Wales’ largest national park. It covers 823 square miles and here you will find the highest mountain in Wales. This is free to enter and such a lovely place to go and enjoy the outdoors with the family. Hidden within the park are some important historical sites waiting for new visitors to discover. It’s best to visit between June and August due to the warmer dryer weather. This is a popular site for hikers. There are different hiking options varying in intensity.
Bodnant Garden
You’ll need prebooked tickets to access this lovely attraction. Bodnant Garden is a National Trust site situated in the foothills of Snowdonia. This is located in an 80 acre garden and is a great place to visit during all seasons although spring and summer will have the most floral blooms. Autumn will see displays of gorgeous colours from the trees and the winter will have pretty frosty landscapes that are also not to be missed. It has gorgeous green lawns, shrub borders, terraces full of flowers, a laburnum arch, meadows, woods, and more to explore.

I have always wanted to revisit Wales after hiking up Snowdonia a few years ago. It’s a beautiful country but one I know such little about that I wouldn’t even know where to start. Will save this page to inspire me where to go and also to help create an itinerary when I do plan to go. Thank you
I’ve only been to Wales once – Tenby – it was lovely and would love to go back one day!
I’m visiting Snowdonia again for the first time in years, it’s really lovely
Yes, I did enjoy reading your post. Thank you! I would really like to visit Portmeirion and, hopefully, catch some other attractions on the way..
We have been to Cardiff Bay a few times as family live near there but we have never stayed long enough to enjoy anything else other than visiting family. It sounds like there is a lot there to see though.
I’ve been to Wales twice, first to Newquay, then to Usk. As a family of Whovians, we had great fun visiting lots of Doctor Who filming locations! St. Fagans National Museum of History is fantastic, I’d love to go back there.
Lovely list! We enjoy Llandudno too, there’s a great little home front museum there
I would love to visit Cardiff again, we visited many years ago and had a great time but havn’t made it back again yet maybe 2024 will be the year!
Our love affair with Wales began in 1969 when we spent our honeymoon in North Wales. When we had children we loved to spend time on and around the Gower Peninsula. Now as empty nesters we love to spend time at Pembury. Cefyn Sands and the Millennium cycle trail offer wonderful opportunities for walking and cycling. Its a 600 mile trip for us from Lincolnshire but worth every mile!
never been to wales but will defiantly be visiting now
It is a great place to visit with so much to do.
I’ve never been to Wales before but it sounds like there’s lots to do! The countryside looks great

The scenery here is just beautiful! I love the castles, history, and rolling landscapes. Sounds like such a lovely place to explore.
